    Hi @nickbatz,

I just tried sending a few photos from Photos to Affinity, edited them and saved them and closed Affinity without any problems.

Are you using the Affinity Store version of Affinity or the Mac App Store version?

Oh, I've opened and closed photos from Photos to Affinity millions of times without any problems. It's always after I've built up a few layers that it hangs, and it's by no means every time.

This is the Affinity Store version.

    Thanks.

  2. I've posted about this before. It's less frequent since I reinstalled the program, and I haven't tried the beta.

But the program is freezing with beachball on save, save as, or quit with regularity, even though it's not every time.

In general it's after I've done a bunch of stuff rather than just opening a new photo. I send the crash reports to Apple almost every time, but I'd be happy to help track this down any way I can.

Mac Studio, latest Ventura, AP 2.0.4

Looking at this, I'll have to check whether having Photos open has anything to do with it. I did use "Edit with" in Photos to start this.

  3. Using Ventura's Universal Control for this application seemed like a great idea, but it's just not a happening thing.

Latency even drawing directly on the iPad. Can't mirror your main monitor at a lower res (which you need to do on a small screen). No pressure sensitivity. It feels like two devices, not another input device to your Mac.

    Kludgey.

Just posting in case anyone else gets the same idea.

The iPad and pen are going back to the store. Too bad, because I wanted it to work.

Did you contact our support team directly following this thread? As I have checked for emails from your address associated with your forum account and have been unable to find a ticket - so I wanted to check if this was resolved by a member of our support team already.

    Many thanks in advance :)

Thanks Dan, and no problem. I reinstalled 2.0.4 and things got a lot better - not totally, but the beachball is appearing far less consistently, and it's short enough not to really matter when it happens.

Yes, I was remiss in contacting support, but if reinstalling the program solved 95% of the issue then it's probably a one-off.

    Thanks again.

  5. Hi, here's a zoomed-in screenshot showing part of a web of lines I'd like to extract and put against an alpha background for later use.

It's been paint-bucketed black in the top square, both are the same picture I'm playing with.

Suggestions for the easiest way to do that would be much appreciated.

Related questions: if I use Select Sampled Color and copy the selection from this pixel layer, why am I unable to paste just it onto a new pixel layer? Instead I'm getting even more of the aqua-colored waste area.

And hitting delete doesn't simply turn what's selected into alpha for some reason. Why?

(I'm using invert selection back and forth here, in case my question is confusing.)

    Many thanks.

Ah ok. Ya I’ve seen people use the same plug-ins on tutorials but it may have been windows I suppose. I’ll double check.

    thanks

To be clear, the ones you're trying to load may well work absolutely fine, especially under Rosetta as MEB suggests.

I wasn't so much grousing as saying it's possible for plug-ins to show up inside the program - i.e. you're doing everything right - but still not work.

I'm on a Mac, but I see no way to add anything to the Pinned view in the Recent Files window.

Same thing -- on my Mac I do not see any way to delete any file showing up in the Recent Files window.

Could some Mac user tell me how to do either of those things?

This is in Ventura. Is it what you're asking?

Please ignore the silly names. :)

  8. The subtext is that you have to learn and practice a little to get the most out of a higher-end photo printer, but it's well worth it and not terribly difficult or complicated.

It also takes a little practice to get a feel for how what you see on your screen translates to what comes out of the printer. There are printing dorks who insist you have to run out and buy fancy calibration equipment, but I disagree (mainly because the difference between a lighted screen image and paper dwarfs any benefits of calibration).

  9. Preview uses the built in macOS printer driver, which *can* use ICC profiles that map the colors to your paper/printer combo but... well, I don't use that driver and I now forget where the hoops are that you need to jump through. The built-in printing in AF is not intended for actual use, at least that's been my impression. :)

Canon's outstanding Pro Print & Layout works with your Pro-300 (I'm 99% sure anyway?). It doesn't use the built-in farkakte macOS driver, it uses its own. You won't look back once you start using it. Just export a TIFF file and drag it in.

I'd also suggest finding the right Pro-300 iCC profiles for the paper you're using. The Pro-300 is a top shelf printer, and there's no reason not to use it optimally.

Also, PNG is a lower-res screen format. You may not be able to tell the difference in all cases, but in general I export to TIFF and always use 300 DPI resolution.
