I had similar problems a few months ago (hangs when copying/pasting), and your tech support person nailed it with the first question - whether I was using a clipboard manager, and I'd forgotten about the one in BetterTouchTool.
My first thought was that this could be related, but I don't think so:

Hi @nickbatz,
I just tried sending a few photos from Photos to Affinity, edited them and saved them and closed Affinity without any problems.
Are you using the Affinity Store version of Affinity or the Mac App Store version?
Oh, I've opened and closed photos from Photos to Affinity millions of times without any problems. It's always after I've built up a few layers that it hangs, and it's by no means every time.
This is the Affinity Store version.
Thanks.

I've posted about this before. It's less frequent since I reinstalled the program, and I haven't tried the beta.
But the program is freezing with beachball on save, save as, or quit with regularity, even though it's not every time.
In general it's after I've done a bunch of stuff rather than just opening a new photo. I send the crash reports to Apple almost every time, but I'd be happy to help track this down any way I can.
Mac Studio, latest Ventura, AP 2.0.4
Looking at this, I'll have to check whether having Photos open has anything to do with it. I did use "Edit with" in Photos to start this.

Also - and this may just be because I was still figuring this out - if you have a setup with an auxiliary monitor set to a different resolution from the main one, be prepared to fool around a lot (i.e. it's not just like adding a third monitor).
But this is moot. The solution doesn't work.
-
Using Ventura's Universal Control for this application seemed like a great idea, but it's just not a happening thing.
Latency even drawing directly on the iPad. Can't mirror your main monitor at a lower res (which you need to do on a small screen). No pressure sensitivity. It feels like two devices, not another input device to your Mac.
Kludgey.
Just posting in case anyone else gets the same idea.
The iPad and pen are going back to the store. Too bad, because I wanted it to work.

Just now, Alfred said:
I don’t know, but I can’t see why the paper would slip in the printer exclusively for AD files.
If the printer thinks it's printing on 40lb paper and you feed it extra heavy fine art paper...

It seems rather unlikely.
Why? I'd say a misaligned printhead, but if the file looks right on the screen and prints fine from other programs, where else in the chain could it be?
-
My guess is that the paper slipped in the printer.
The print driver's media handling settings might be different, i.e. that could account for it working in some programs but not others.
-
If you didn't have the original file, Select Sampled Color would isolate the background or the logo to cut and paste onto a new layer.
Turning it into a vector is also pretty simple in this case.
-
While I promise never ever to forget to do that again, it occurs to me that I never want anything else.
Would that you could set this as a default when you select the Clone Brush tool.
Thanks.

Thanks.
I'm guessing that Canon Pro Print & Layout doesn't work for other reasons? That's actually the one that would make me happy.
Actually I'd love to derail this thread and talk about Gigapixel AI itself, but I would never do something like that.
-
Serious question, not snark: do *any* Photoshop plug-ins work inside Affinity Photo (1 or 2)?
The only two I've ever wanted to use - Canon Pro Print & Layout and Gigapixel AI - don't, but they're not effects, they're programs that want to borrow the whole file.
Does Qimage One's plug-in work?

Did you contact our support team directly following this thread? As I have checked for emails from your address associated with your forum account and have been unable to find a ticket - so I wanted to check if this was resolved by a member of our support team already.
Many thanks in advance
Thanks Dan, and no problem. I reinstalled 2.0.4 and things got a lot better - not totally, but the beachball is appearing far less consistently, and it's short enough not to really matter when it happens.
Yes, I was remiss in contacting support, but if reinstalling the program solved 95% of the issue then it's probably a one-off.
Thanks again.

Okay, and here's the answer: use Select Sampled Color on the black, and then just copy/paste without creating a pixel layer first.
This is an example of the forum helping me figure something out even before anyone replied.

Hi, here's a zoomed-in screenshot showing part of a web of lines I'd like to extract and put against an alpha background for later use.
It's been paint-bucketed black in the top square, both are the same picture I'm playing with.
Suggestions for the easiest way to do that would be much appreciated.

Related questions: if I use Select Sampled Color and copy the selection from this pixel layer, why am I unable to paste just it onto a new pixel layer? Instead I'm getting even more of the aqua-colored waste area.
And hitting delete doesn't simply turn what's selected into alpha for some reason. Why?
(I'm using invert selection back and forth here, in case my question is confusing.)
Many thanks.

Ah ok. Ya I’ve seen people use the same plug-ins on tutorials but it may have been windows I suppose. I’ll double check.
thanks
To be clear, the ones you're trying to load may well work absolutely fine, especially under Rosetta as MEB suggests.
I wasn't so much grousing as saying it's possible for plug-ins to show up inside the program - i.e. you're doing everything right - but still not work.

Am I asking in the correct Forum ?..........
You are, but some plug-ins simply don't do anything in Affinity Photo 1 or 2 - such as the two I'd like to use (Canon Pro Print & Layout and Gigapixel AI).
-
In the meantime it's pretty easy to save exporting presets.
I don't have AF open right now, but I don't think you'll have any trouble finding it.
But I'm glad to see that you're ahead of me with all of this!

I'm on a Mac, but I see no way to add anything to the Pinned view in the Recent Files window.
Same thing -- on my Mac I do not see any way to delete any file showing up in the Recent Files window.
Could some Mac user tell me how to do either of those things?
This is in Ventura. Is it what you're asking?
Please ignore the silly names.

On Mac (I don't know about Windows) you can preview files in the Open dialog if you hit the spacebar, then scan through them with the up and down arrows.
-
The subtext is that you have to learn and practice a little to get the most out of a higher-end photo printer, but it's well worth it and not terribly difficult or complicated.
It also takes a little practice to get a feel for how what you see on your screen translates to what comes out of the printer. There are printing dorks who insist you have to run out and buy fancy calibration equipment, but I disagree (mainly because the difference between a lighted screen image and paper dwarfs any benefits of calibration).
-
Preview uses the built in macOS printer driver, which *can* use ICC profiles that map the colors to your paper/printer combo but... well, I don't use that driver and I now forget where the hoops are that you need to jump through. The built-in printing in AF is not intended for actual use, at least that's been my impression.
Canon's outstanding Pro Print & Layout works with your Pro-300 (I'm 99% sure anyway?). It doesn't use the built-in farkakte macOS driver, it uses its own. You won't look back once you start using it. Just export a TIFF file and drag it in.
I'd also suggest finding the right Pro-300 iCC profiles for the paper you're using. The Pro-300 is a top shelf printer, and there's no reason not to use it optimally.
Also, PNG is a lower-res screen format. You may not be able to tell the difference in all cases, but in general I export to TIFF and always use 300 DPI resolution.

I don’t know what you want to say with „don’t work“. It definitely works, but maybe not in the way you are expecting.
I was just trying to translate what you said!

And whoa. 27 recent hangs.
This warrants a support ticket. I can't believe that everyone is having the same experience.

Photo v1 suddenly stopped working
in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Posted
Sounds like a case of corrupted software?
My suggestion is to do a Mac Dance:
1. Delete the preferences. If that doesn't work,
2. Run Disk Utility. If that doesn't work,
3. Reinstall Affinity photo. If that doesn't work,
4. Waste a whole lot of time reinstalling everything from a backup, or worse start over with a clean installation.
