How would you expect people on the Adobe forum to know what the heck the contour tool in Designer does? I am expecting a good few Designer users are familiar with Illustrator. Jeez just keep your nose out of you have nothing to contribute!

Anyone know if illustrator can do the same thing as the contour tool in designer? With the gloopy edges.

Does Affinity for Windows respond to gestures the same as the iPad version? Like swiping for selecting layers, touch the screen to constrain scale etc when used on a Surface tablet? Or does it need a keyboard attached to function well.

As I am using a stylus the whole time, it is actually pretty in ergonomic to have to tap two fingers to undo. I would much rather have buttons on screen.

I use the pencil tool a lot with the line weight graph. It seems I can only save these graphs per document. Is there a way I can save the settings as a brush or some way I can use the settings between projects?

I made a symbol out of a group of objects. The group consisted of the line art strokes and the solid fill as separate entities. After dragging out a load of objects in the document I selected the all of the nested solid fill objects and tried to make a compound. This leads to a hard crash every time.

When I create a square with curved corners, convert it to curves and offset it with the node tool. I expect it to stretch those curved corners as it does in CorelDraw but Designer leaves the corner curves unchanged.

I see. So while the Live filter is still 'live' and not rasterised, then I can still change the document resolution to 8000dpi if I want to?

I don't understand the display resolution vs document resolution. If it's done the maths to show it , why can't that be the real deal?

Yeah, I'm a screen printer myself. I think we get way more concerned over halftones than other graphic designers 😂

Moving from Corel I was weighing up Affinity vs Clip studio paint for my needs. I chose Affinity and I'm very pleased. I have a couple of suggestions though. If you own Photo and Designer , the Pixel persona in Designer should beef up with a few Photo features that benefit drawing over photo editing. I'm thinking specifically of live filters. Clip studio has two features Affinity should implement. The line weight brush that lets you 'paint' over a line and make it thicker or thinner at chosen points. And the overlap eraser that snips off over lapping line ends easily. Failing that, at least a knife tool to achieve the same thing.

Move as in create a doc in Photo and chose edit in Designer. Spreading tools over two programs as in, I have to edit in Photo to use Live filters when I really want to use the filters in Designer. What makes me think they are vector dots is that if I zoom in and in and in they don't pixelate when viewed in Designer but they do in Photo

I have just noticed. When I move a Halftone live filter from Photo to Designer, the Halftone dots appear to be scalable vector dots when they were pixel dots in Photo. I'm a bit confused as to the methodology going on here. What is the reason for spreading the tools over two programs like this?

Ah yes! I see. This is also available in Photo so I may not even need Publisher. Thanks the help

Yeah, my print dialogue doesn't have that option.

I need to be able to do one thing. I have A3 PDFs that I want to be able to print onto 2 sheets of a4 which I can then attach together. So i need a bit of overlap. Possibly registration marks I thought this sort of thing was supposed to be in the printer driver but in my case it is not so maybe I can set something up to process my files before print Would Publisher be able to do this for me easily? Ideally I would have a template I could drop PDFs into and go. I hate going to the copy shop and A3 laser printers are very large and expensive compared to a4!

If I create live fx layers in Photo and switch it over to Designer , the fx layers persist and are editable. But it seems I can't create such a layer in Designer and have to go back and forth to Photo to create them. Is this correct?

Great, thanks for all the help. I have other issues with the HT fx as well , such as not being able to set arbitrary angles of the dots and the way it generates a kind of outline of dots around the edge of the object even if the edge is pure white. But I don't expect there is a workaround for these things.

Okay, so if I create a rectangle , fill it with a gradient and and a halftone fx it works. But if I paint a gradient and add the halftone fx , nothing happens. halftone problem.afphoto
