A solution has been found. Amazing.
I went into the iPad Settings, and selected Reset. The one just before the one that cleans it off ready for resale.
Gritting my teeth I hit ‘do it’
Well after a time the iPad was restarted and it’s like a different iPad. !
Everything works- I had to reset a few options like permissions, wallet and so on, but. Not as much as I thought.
However. Affinity apps are now working perfectly, along with Files. everything is working better than it has done for years.
I’ve been using this daily for years now, and I guess it was just so full of junk files it couldn’t continue.
So thanks for the ideas above folks. I appreciate it. I can report that a Reset is a good fix if it’s not been done before on a busy system. It fixes lots of things, and gives the iPad a new lease of life..

We are here because of the affinity pricing model

Kill this pricing model and kill your user base.
But your going to do it anyway and pretend that will be different somehow.

Adobe has massive feature set for its subscription that Affinity can't compete with
Canva has nothing to offer me .
It's obvious what's going to happen, and gushy executive mailouts just destroy our trust a bit faster.

I need to plan a business. I'm tired of this corporate BS, causing perpetual chaos.

Yeah, I am very discouraged with this message from the CEO.
I am a former Adobe user, who moved on when they went subscription. Bounced around with tools, all go to some kind of at least semi subscription model.
Then I found Affinity, and have loved it, haven't looked back.
I am a pro user who is here because of the non-subscription business model.

Any be coincidence, my brother in law and close friend, who also is a pro user, and is an adobe guy who has to renew his subscription in a few weeks, and is considering a new tool set, well I sent him the link here to affinity. He first question was, its not a subscription model is it. Said he has zero interest if it is a subscription model.
I unfortunately have to call him shortly and retract my recommendation , or at least give the disclaimer that I am not confident it will remain non-subscription.
This makes me sad, because just yesterday, I had all the confidence in Affinity to put my word on it, and today, that is no longer the case.

Affinity Rat reacted to Callum in How to prevent a table from moving while editing it in APub2?
    Hi Affinity Rat,
In Publisher you should still be able to type content etc as the layer lock works the same as in Photo, you will however need to switch back to the table tool when selecting the locked table object in order to edit any of the cells. Its also worth mentioning that items on master pages may look locked when being viewed on an actual page without edit detached enabled I figured its worth mentioning this just so you don't catch yourself out.
If you have any issues let me know.

Draw a straight line, then add an equation filter such as this :-

    y+a*1000*sin(b*20*pi*x/w)

Demo of what you get and how to create it on the iPad version, same on desktop as well..

@Affinity Rat I created a sine wave in Designer v2.4.0 using the pen tool. I don't know how precise you need this sine wave to be (I'm sure it's not perfect). In designer, this is a vector, so you can scale the amplitude and width as you wish using the Move Tool and add more segments if needed. You can change the color, stroke width, etc. I copied this vector curve into Photo v2.4.0 in case you don't have Designer. You can scale, color, etc, in Photo also, since it is still a vector curve. Below is a screenshot taken from Photo. I'll attach both the Designer and Photo documents with the that sine curve. Hope that helps.

Not sure if this is what you want, but there is a Sine Wave preset shipped with AP in the Procedural Textures filter. You need a filled background pixel layer for the PT filter to work on. You can control amplitude and number of cycles. Also, the PT filter shows the formula used.

Affinity Rat got a reaction from Bit Disappointed in Is there an Official approach to App data creep?
Tried this exercise again, it appears that the iPad must reboot to reclaim the memory, after deleting a category of assets.
Since even large asset files ~1gb load quite quickly, they should be linked or loaded on demand and never enter the sandbox, sure its a bit slower but would have of smaller impact on overall ipad performance.
Even closing the app could delete the all asset categories and reload when app started up again, not leaving a permanent dent in system resources that users may be unaware of.

    HI @Affinity Rat,
I'm not aware of a method to do this with Affinity Photo as we don't support AVIF, so can't make use of the batch tools in Affinity and i'm also not aware of a 3rd party tool that could convert these back to afphoto files.

    Hey Guys,
AVIF support would be greatly appreciated. I know this has been a long requested feature since version 1 but still no word on when this will be implemented from Serif?
Thank you for JPEG XL but due to Google being just downright awkward and deprecating the XL codec in version M110 AVIF is really the only choice to use with current gen technology for higher quality smaller file sizes.
Can we please get an update on where things are with this?
Great job on the software. The future for these apps is very bright.
    Kind regards

Very interesting but also sad if true as it destroys hope for updates that bring real solutions for fundamental issues in the near future. Seems like some decisions would need a redo from scratch which would cause a lot of manpower, time and investment on the developer‘s side. And first of all requires the acknowledgement that there is an actual need for improvement in some parts.

How much trust (potential and existing) customers put into the products future highly depends on how issues are taken seriously and handled here by those in charge.

Affinity Rat reacted to StudioJason in Photo, Designer, and Publisher consistently Crashing
Have been using iPad Pro v.3 256G (with still approx. 100G free)… utilizing Photo, Designer, and Publisher for months without issue, and now is consistently crashing regardless of which being used.
Though it was at first simply overextending the Apps, graphics-wise or large file sizes- numerous Layers, Adjustments, complex procedures  or what have you…but now is simply when performing what is regular or normal Use or Editing type tasks.
Like making edits to Text used, or Adjustment Layers, or even after finishing working on something say in Publisher and using the Hand Tool to view the Document and such.
It was happening sporadically at first. Where I’d be doing more intensive work performance, and figured was just too much for it to handle- which is odd, because never had issues prior.
Installed the IOS 17.1 update that came out just the day before…and now is more consistently crashing. Have performed numerous Hard Resets, clearing memory cashes I know of, but still persists.
Figure that the update might have something to do with it increasing perhaps (?), but definitely needs some fixes beyond that because it was doing so prior to updating. But is now has become very problematic, even in doing simple tasks over duration.

Affinity Rat reacted to devendra in Photo, Designer, and Publisher consistently Crashing
I can't offer a workflow description for every case as it randomly happens but I have the same problem as the OP.
Working on an iPad Pro v3 and iOS 17.1.2., AP is up-to-date with 2.3.1.2217
Happens with AD and AP and I can't figure out a pattern/trigger as the situations vary.
    It happens while
brushing on a layer (randomly after I had already painted for some while) switching layers using the color slider and pipette typing values in a panel switching tools opening a document From 256 GB I have 128 GB free and I only use the iPad in addition to the macbook for drawing and don't use any large other apps, it's mainly Affinity installed.
This might be worth an extra thread but as it fits to that and often is the prelude to a crash:
Brushes start lagging out of no reason. I am using everything as intended for some while and then out of a sudden I paint "empty" on a layer, nothing visible. So I zoom in and out (with lags as well), all tools stop working/freeze, the layer becomes visible and I can finally see what I painted, then I try to paint again and the document crashes.
The lagging of the brush does not always lead to a crash but very often. It costs me so much time and is beginning to become a problem for my work-schedule and respectively also the money.
While the brush lag is a real problem itself it is most likely connected to the crashing issues the software has on the iPad.
I would so love to keep drawing on the iPad instead of my wacom tablet as it is more intuitive for illustrators in theory. But practically I had to create so many workarounds to be able to make basic drawing at all. For example I have to exclude every larger group in my file to a new linked document so I am able to use the main document on the iPad at all and be able to paint "live" on a layer. Also I must not refresh the links on AP on iPad because it causes embedding instead of keeping my intended link - which bloats my document again. Took me hours of try and error to find that out.
To say it shortly: Please work on the general performance on the iPad. I have no time to send you example videos as I am struggling with getting my work finished (and also the crashes and bugs happen randomly I would have to record quite some time and invest a lot of work just to make a report that probably has nothing to do with my pretty standard usage of the program) but I think the hints you get from different users are reason and explanation enough to thoroughly check the general performance.
    Thank you!

Affinity Rat reacted to devendra in General question: UI Buttons/Panels Screenshot Overview available?
    Thank you, Lee, for answering!
I know that function but it is not quite the same as what I described and some explanations are missing or not intuitive, I would like to explain why:
    - It doesn't show nested elements and explains only what is currently visible on the screen.
So if a user doesn't know that the smudge tool is nested inside the dodge/burn tool they don't know where to look for it. I also just recently found out that the question mark button shows tool-related functions only when the tool is actually selected. So users have to click through all tools. A static overview would be more helpful, even if it is listed from top to bottom.
    - The content of the panels is not explained with the ?-Button
I had a hard time finding the "styles" panel that is nested inside the fx panel, which differs from the desktop version where it has an own panel.
    - The document/hamburger/file menu and three dots menu is not explained
This might seem trivial to you but i.e. duplicating a layer could also be expected in the layer panel so not every user would expect to find it nested in another menu
    - The nested function of transparency, accumulation is not explained next to its location
but in the center of the screen so users have to guess and try that it requires a click on one function to make the other available. In my opinion the tool itself needs less nesting/extra clicks and the visual reference should at least say where it is nested instead of just showing an icon in the center of the screen.
    - the layer panel content is not explained

Possibly a lot of functions are sub-topics in varying help pages but it would be super-useful to have a visual reference that doesn't require clicking through each tool and panel.

Speaking of the layer panel and UI: maybe this is just my personal experience but although I am using the software for some time now but still find myself accidentially clicking the three dots in the layer panel when I actually want to duplicate a layer, group, create a mask etc. but end up in the layer options (for renaming etc). I think I can't get fully used to it because for me the dots indicate an extra (dropdown-/list-)menu, and confusingly you also use it that way for the edit menu in the top bar. In my opinion this is not a good icon choice for a UI because it is inconsistent inside the app (here it opens a drop down menu, there a panel with buttons and options).
I hope you understand why a more detailed explanation than the already existing ?-Button of the UI with visual indication of the function's locations is a valid user request and might prevent users better from getting lost.

    Cheers,
    Devendra
