That works for shapes, but the usual reason for requesting this tool, I think, is to deal with a different situation.
Suppose you just draw a bunch of lines on the canvas randomly, and notice an area bounded by 3 of them that you'd like to make green. The lines are not a shape, just three random lines that happen to enclose a space. As far as Affinity is concerned there's nothing to Fill.

Can I please bump this thread? This feature is really, really needed. Like super important. I was shocked that wasn't implemented yet. I realize we can go with the boolean operators but that is just ... not the same.

Knife tool????...

I know to some this may seem to be going too deep, but one feature that would be tremendously helpful in Affinity Designer for UI work is the ability to rename multiple layers or find and replace in a selection of multiple layers. When creating a lot of different similar layers, it's great to make a selection and be able to add or change a folder prefix, for instance. Adding the ability to create a shortcut for renaming a current layer also helps make things just a bit faster in heavy workflows. I use these in plugin form elsewhere and it saves tons of time.

Just a small suggestion for the export dialogue,
It would be really nice if a selection is active on the artboard - the export dialogue box would default to "Area: Selection only",
and if no selection is active on the artboard - the export dialogue box would default to the normal "Area: Whole document".
 
It is just in my mind, if I make a selection first and hit export I am 90% of the time I am wanting to export just that bit. 
(you could always make this an on/off in the settings).

This application really helps me in working but I'm always waiting for this effect feature to make it easier or finish my work

I've been using the Affinity programs for a few years now. For the most part I'm really happy with them, but today I started work on a document with many slices (with more being added) and it turns out, the export persona is very lacking in even the most basic features:
No way to reorganize slices in the Slices panel
The fact that we can't reorganize slices in the Slices panel makes it impossible to keep slices organized. This is necessary for grouping, selecting, and modifying slices easily, which quickly becomes frustrating with the current lack of organization functionality. I just want to be able to drag-to-reorder slices in the Slices panel.
No Copy/Paste/Duplicate
"Creating hundreds of slices of identical sizes and settings? Too bad, you need to create every slice individually!" If I have multiple slices for each element (up, down, hover, etc) and I need to create 50 of these elements, that's 150 individual rectangles that need to be drawn, renamed, etc. This can take hours. This workflow is a nightmare.
No Auto-Slice
This one surprised me. There's no way to quickly slice around existing elements, or auto-slice by grid, etc. Again, this forces users to hand-draw each slice rectangle. Nightmare workflow.
Lacking multi-selection edit
Selecting multiple slices should let you modify the properties of all selected slices. The Export Options can be modified together, but changing or adding multiple export formats quickly becomes tedious (and impossible, when you get into the 100s of slices range)
 
I've been a huge proponent of Affinity over the past few years, recommending it at every chance I get. Lately though, the lack of functionality (and usability) in the Export Persona makes me regret my decision to go all-in on Affinity's ecosystem. (Not to mention the bugs on Windows, but that's a topic for another time)

First, Affinity Designer is beautiful and extremely efficient tool. I like it!
 
 
I am doing design and artwork for front panels / operating panels of electric devices and machines. The drawings are available in DXF and / or DWG from Autocad (trademark). What would really speed up my workflow is the option to *import* DXF or DWG files. 
 
Considering that these files can carry very complex information it would be sufficient to be able import only a single layer file or a single layer of such a file. This contains all mechanical data so I can be sure that the artwork will match the target device.
 
 
Adobe Illustrator has this feature.
 
Export of DXF / DWG files is actually not required for this kind of work.
 
 
 

Hi people,
The ability to export DXF/EXD files would be a big add on for a lot of people using Illustrator instead of Designer. I would really LOVE this feature for Designer. Currently I have to use my old CS5 Illustrator version on my PC to do this! If anyone is working with laser cutting programs or export for designs to be cut into those programs you'll know what a headache it is! My wife and I have our own business where I frequently design products for laser cutting. To have these file formats supported by designer would SAVE me and other designers a lot of time and love Affinity so much more than what we already do! Please Affinity team... can you add this? Would really appreciate it!

I miss the ability to add interactive fields (form fields, check boxes, drop down fields... etc.) to the document before exporting it as a pdf... like PagePlus had.
