Yainderidoo got a reaction from jmwellborn in Introduce Yourself
Hi, I'm Yain from Fryslân.
I'm very green to all the digital drawing and photo stuff and no professional and have a lot to learn. I love to draw though, with pencil, (real) ink and paper. You can find some of my work on devianART (Yainderidoo).
So forgive me if some of the questions I'm going to ask sound a bit odd for people how are in this field much longer then I. Almost 62 and just wanting to learn.... ~;o)

Thank you h_d for taking time to show me how things are done. 👍

If you mean this sort of thing, then yes, it's possible. Here's a crude and inexpert example:
I created a new document. The plain background is a fill layer with a paper texture over it, the blend mode on the paper is set to Linear Burn.
The moss is a placed image, rasterised, then a hole cut into it by dragging out a rough shape with the Freehand Selection Tool and deleting the selection.
The dog statue and the mushrooms are placed images, rasterised, and cut out using the Selection Brush Tool. They're layered behind the moss. I duplicated the moss layer, dragged it above the dog and deleted an area of moss around the dog's head so it appears the dog is over the moss at the top and under the moss at the bottom.
I also applied some very rough Outer Shadow and 3D effects to the image layers.
I know, it looks rubbish. A better artist would make a better job.

In addition to the advice above, I’ve attached a quickly-done (a few minutes’ work) example (image and AFPHOTO document).
I cheated a bit by using Designer to add the corners on the ‘frames’ (I’m not good with drawing nice curves) and I used some clip-art, but you get the idea.
The more effort you put into it the better the result will be.

The answer is yes, but as Garryp mentions it helps to give a visual example.
this should help you in your quest for 3D cutout nirvana... https://ssdvisual.uk/static/tutorials/paper-cutout-effect-with-affinity-photo-and-free-project/ the principle is the same, so you can erase part of an image and have images below.

If you can show us (image, link, etc.) what you mean by “those nifty little scenes” or “those paper cut scenes” then you will probably get answers that are closer to what you need. Otherwise people will have to guess, and you might not get what you want.
Remember, we have no way of knowing what you have been looking at unless you show us.

Yainderidoo reacted to DM1 in Affinity Photo 1.9.2 iPad - PDF Help file
Hi fellow Affinity users. Having been confined to the house during the Covid pandemic I have taken the opportunity to produce a PDF help file for Affinity Photo (V 1.9.2). If you find it useful post a comment below in this thread. If it is popular enough Affinity may see the value in producing an 'official' version for users.
See below. (I have also attached a less compressed (higher resolution) copy's Dropbox “link” to a PDF version).

https://www.dropbox.com/s/z075osriqgkr18e/Affinity Photo 1.9.2-help low res.pdf?dl=0
I have attached a reduced resolution copy of the PDF version of the Affinity Photo IPad apps built in Help file directly to this post. (See file attachment below. Use Files app to unzip).
You can open the PDF file in a reader eg. Documents (Readdle) or iOS Books, allowing you to view and search the help file while working on a document in Affinity Photo. All links within the document should be working. Let me know if you find broken links.
I hope you will find it as useful as I do.
Please note that this PDF is not in any way supported by Affinity, nor are they responsible for any errors or omissions, so please do not refer any errors or omissions in this Document to Affinity. Every attempt has been made (by me) to ensure the content is an accurate representation of the built in Help file, however some errors 'may' have slipped through .
I will endeavour to keep it up to date (at least for a little while) . When Publisher comes out I may redo the layout (Pages is a little limited in the area of indexing).
