  1. Thank you all. Now I have discovered the live Gaussian blur tool, my problem is solved. I have to say again, how much I appreciate this forum. You're great, guys!
  2. Hmmm. I set the blur to 100% but It still won't fade to nothing.
  3. I'm not sure - I think I dropped the layer. I'll try again. Thanks
  4. As you were - I found invert in the layers file, but the effect is still nowhere near your sample
  5. Hi. Thanks. I did exactly what you said, but it came out as a white rectangle fading to nothing over the image. The image is only visible around the edges, as if it needs to be inverted but I can't see how to do that.
  6. I want to fade the edges of a photograph to nothing. Creating a soft vignette. Can't discover how to do it. Any suggestions?
  7. Yay Hens - that's got it. Thank you. I'm a bit surprised that a pixel layer isn't automatic given that I'm in Pixel Persona, but so be it. Thank you. And thank you PaulEC, also jolly useful stuff.
  8. I'm just starting out with Pixel Persona in Designer. I am trying to follow the Pixel Persona Tutorial, but, no matter what I do, I cannot make any marks. I select the brush tool, choose a brush, add a colour and draw. And nothing happens. I have a Wacom tablet, but at the moment I'm still using a mouse on my iMac 27" I have no problems at all with the Vector Persona and have been using it successfully for many months.
  9. Thanks to everyone who answered my question. I never cease to be amazed how responsive and helpful the contributors to this forum are. Thank you all.
  10. Thanks Old Bruce - I'd found the options, but without a source of appropriate fills I'm no better off. Do you know of any such? Or have I misunderstood?
  11. Ah. I did wonder. Do you know of any sources for bitmaps of appropriate screens?
  12. In Adobe Illustrator, I could give an object a fill other than a colour, tint or a gradient. In particular things like dot screens or cross-hatching etc. I'm sure Affinity Designer has such a feature, but I'm damned if I can find it. Help!
  13. I'd love to know when the MAC version for Big Sur is available. it seems not to be yet, despite its nearly the end of Quarter II 2021 Forget what I said about winding up this thread (see above) and please keep me posted 🙂
  14. Thanks Iconoclast and everyone else who has contributed to this thread. As I say, I have a solution now, but I've also learned a lot about tweaking photo-filter presets, which is proving very useful as well. So thanks all, again. I reckon we can wind this thread up now.
  15. I looked at this too, but was out off by its being for PCs only. If they ever release a proper MAC version, I'll have a look. But, meanwhile, I'm finding Watercolor Studio (sic) very useful even if I did have to pay for it - still a lot cheaper than continuing with Adobe products!
  16. Thanks firstdefence, it's a shame, they were very useful tools. But I'll have a look at those plugins.
  17. In the old days when I was using Photoshop, there were a set of tools for making artistic effects such as watercolour or oil paint, or textures, not just to brushes but to whole images (any format, if I remember correctly). I have been asked to convert an existing image into a "watercolour" - but I can't find any filters or tools to do this in Affinity Photo. Are there any and, if so, where do I find them?
  18. This forum is just great - you folks are so helpful. Thanks to all who have given me solutions to my teething troubles.
  19. Hi user_0815. Thank you, that's got it. Obvious now you say it but it had me foxed for quite a while.
