When you say saved files, are referring to me saving them individually? I haven’t ever “saved” them somewhere specific that I have pointed it towards. I open the app, all of my files are there by icons and folders, and I select one to open it and work on it. Then I hit the back arrow at the top when I’m done. Please forgive my ignorance, haha.

I didn’t use Affinity V1 apps on iPad, so I’m assuming saving files works the same as it does in V2. In V2, when you create a file it is automatically saved to the Home Screen (local file on your iPad only), but the file is not automatically saved to an external location. In order to save the file to an external location (like iCloud):

(Note: The following is for V2 UI. I don’t know if the V1 UI is the same as V2.)

    • On the Home Screen, tap the hamburger menu on the file
    • Tap Save
    • Enter the file name, tap the save button
    • Select a location to save the file

I found it a bit difficult to understand how saving files works on iPad, so I completely understand your confusion.

So the setting of “Default Save Location” being set to iCloud Drive doesn’t do anything? And is there is a migrate or export option? Would it also include the fonts?

I believe fonts are stored locally (on the device), so you’ll need to add the fonts on your new iPad in Preference > Fonts.

I’m not sure what you are asking about setting the Default Save Location to iCloud. If you saved files to iCloud, the files can be accessed in iCloud on your new iPad. Like Walt mentioned, any files on your old iPad that are on the Home Screen but we’re not saved externally are only on your old iPad, so you will need to saved them to iCloud or some other cloud service to access them on your new iPad.

    Does that make sense?

"Library Studio Panel"?  What is that?  Where do I even FIND that.

The Interface Visual Reference in Affinity Help will help you get acquainted with the Affinity UI:
    https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Workspace/interface.html
Hover mouse over different areas (or tap) to see what they're called.

Studio panels are accessed in Window in the menu bar.

  4. I normally have Clip to Canvas enabled (View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas), which produces borders on the top and left sides of the canvas. When Clip to Canvas is disabled, borders appear on all four sides of the canvas, which I'm assuming is the intended behavior.

There is an issue with Clip to Canvas — when it's enabled, the top/left borders are thinner than the borders that display when Clip to Canvas is disabled... so it appears that the borders are not being completely clipped.

Affinity includes a white background if you export your file as a PNG? Why would it do that? Theres no white object. Its just the objects on the artboard so why wouldnt it just export the objects on the artboard.

The background isn't an object or layer. If Transparent Background isn't enabled in the New Document window or in Document Setup, the file will have a white background. The canvas will display the transparent checkerboard pattern if you're working with a transparent background.

  6. In addition to what Catshill mentioned, here are a few other things to consider when deciding whether to embed or link files.

If the combined size of the files in your document is large, linking will reduce the file size, which can make some operations run faster.

If a linked file is moved or renamed, you’ll need to relocate the file in the Asset Manager — i.e., linked files need to be managed in relation to the file they’re in. If you upload or share a file that contains linked files, the linked files must accompany the parent file.

if you’re not concerned about file size or maintaining asset files externally, embedding files keeps things simple…. no need to worry about keeping track of linked files.

Is this still occurring in 2.0.3 for you?

I haven't seen the issue in 2.0.3. It was an intermittent issue, but I've invoked the tooltips several times, including after restarting my computer, and the shortcuts have been included every time. So it may be safe to assume the issue is resolved. 🙂 Thanks for following up, Lee.

  8. I agree... I think apps should accommodate the UI design principles of the OS they run on. Windows 11 automatically applies rounded corners to top-level app windows, so maybe the Affinity apps were designed in a way that prevents rounded corners from being applied. I'm not aware of the complexities involved, but it would be nice if Serif could address this at some point.

    From Microsoft documentation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/desktop/modernize/apply-rounded-corners

    Quote

Rounded corners are the most immediately noticeable feature of Windows 11 Geometry. On Windows 11, the system automatically rounds top-level window corners for all inbox apps, including all UWP apps, and most other apps.

  9. Here are some Windows 11 color folder icons and some additional Windows icons I created. These icons can be used to replace the default icon for folders in Windows.

The folder icons were designed to match the style of Windows 11 folders, but they can be used in Windows 10.

My apologies to Mac users that this is a Windows-only resource. I hesitated to share something that can’t be used by everyone, but I’d like to make the icons available to those who may find them useful.

The icon ICO files include the standard Windows icon image sizes. Instructions are included for those unfamiliar with how to change Windows folder icons (it’s easy).

    Contents of the ZIP file:

    • 38 folder icons (ICO)
    • 139 additional symbol icons (ICO)
    • 12 brand logo icons (ICO)
    • 1 instructions document (PDF)
    • 2 preview images showing all the icons (PNG)

  10. Sometimes when zooming in using the shortcut Spacebar + Ctrl, left-click and drag the app freezes and the only way to close Designer is to End task in the Windows Task Manager.

The issue has occurred a number of times in multiple documents. I did not have this issue in Designer v1 and there have been no changes to my computer hardware or hardware.

    Designer 2.0.0
    Windows 10 21H2 and 22H2
    Hardware acceleration is off

  11. Edit: I didn't read the question correctly. The following doesn't display the parts of the bottom shapes that are outside the top shape, so this isn't the solution you're looking for.

I think this gives you what you're after...

    1. Group the Top Object that you want the other objects to inherit the fill from.
    2. Group the objects below the top object (Bottom Objects).
    3. Drag the Bottom Objects group to the Top Object group folder icon to create a mask.
