  1. I'm on Windows... not sure if there is a difference on Mac. You may have already tried this, but in order to save global defaults I have to first Synchronize from Selection. Select the object (e.g., Artistic Text, Text Frame, or vector shape). In the menu: Edit > Defaults > Synchronize from Selection (or click Synchronize defaults from selection in the Toolbar). In the menu: Edit > Defaults > Save
  2. The icons on the left side of layers identify the layer type — # is an Artboard layer and the blue horizontal lines are a Vector (Layer) layer. Clicking the left side of a layer or group collapses it, but not its children — this is the same in V1 to V2. https://affinity.help/designer2/en-US.lproj/pages/Layers/aboutLayers.html V2 did add a way to collapse all layers/groups. Right-click any layer or group in the Layers Panel and select 'Collapse All Parents.'
  3. To add to Old Bruce's recommendation... master pages can be applied to other master pages. You can create a master page (Master 1) with the page number and any other elements you want on all pages, and create another master page (Master 2) that includes only the chapter name (running head), and then apply Master 1 to Master 2. Apply Master 1 to the first page of each chapter, and apply Master 2 to the pages where you want the running head.
  4. Are you trying to copy from an Image layer? In order to copy a selection, the layer needs to be a Pixel layer. If it's an Image layer, rasterize it, then you can copy or cut a selection.
  5. The help page you're viewing is for Publisher V1. You can access V2 help here: https://affinity.help. Often times, if a Google search returns an Affinity V1 help page, you can add a '2' after the app name in the URL to get to the V2 help page. For example: https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/pages/Panels/glyphPanel.html https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/pages/Panels/glyphPanel.html Also note, when copying a help page URL, use the 'Copy link to clipboard' icon at the bottom-right of the left column. When navigating on the Help site, the page URL in the browser doesn't update to reflect the correct page URL.
  6. Excellent, glad we’re on the right track. I use Windows, so I don’t know where to go in Mac Settings, but there should be a Mac privacy setting where you can grant apps permission to access hardware like camera, microphone, etc. On iPad it’s Settings > Privacy & Security… not sure it’s the same on Mac.
  7. Is it possible you denied Affinity apps permission to record your screen? From https://affinity.help/designer2/en-US.lproj/pages/Clr/samplingClr.html… Screen recording permission The first time you sample color, your operating system may ask whether to grant permission for your Affinity app to record the screen. If you deny it, you can still sample from the app's windows but not other screen areas. Refer to your operating system's documentation if you need to grant permission at a later time.
  8. I don’t think the color in the Color Picker can be added to swatches. There are icons in the Swatches panel to add the current color to swatches. To use the Color Picker Tool to sample a color outside the app, left-click anywhere on the canvas and drag outside the app. You can also use the panel color picker in the Color panel, Swatches panel, etc. by drag from the color picker icon to select any pixel on your screen.
  9. The Command Controller has the equivalent of keyboard modifier keys. https://affinity.help/designer2ipad/en-US.lproj/pages/Workspace/wheel.html
  10. It was removed from the Context Toolbar in V2. Cycle Selection Box is now in the Select menu.
  11. I’m not sure what you mean by “labels.” It seems like you may be talking about something other than text styles. Regardless, I’m glad you’re able to accomplish what you need to. 👍
  12. I think the approach that will give you the best results is to change the color of the pink candle to match the green one. You could make a selection of the green candle and copy it into the other image. But since the green candle is most likely not the exact same dimensions as the pink candle, you would have to transform the candle without locking the aspect ratio, which would distort it slightly. Plus, the angle each photo was taken at is slightly different and the shadows on the candles are different, so the green candle may not look quite right in place of the pink candle. If you can live without the wraparound label on the green candle, maybe try recoloring the pink candle. Here’s a tutorial…
  13. To add to the suggestions Walt provided… Text Styles can’t be exported. Text Styles can be imported via Import Styles in the Text Styles panel hamburger menu. I just wanted to make sure we’re referring to the same things.
  14. It wasn’t obvious to me were to find the info initially. There’s a New Features list for V2.0 at the bottom of each of the product pages on the Affinity website. E.g., Designer https://affinity.serif.com/designer/full-feature-list/ Fixes and improvements for update versions are posted in the News and Information forum. Here’s the 2.0.3 post: I wish Serif had a web page that listed all version history, personally.
  15. Sure thing. Best of luck with your textbook! 🙂
  16. Pinning an object makes it move with the text. https://affinity.help/publisher2ipad/en-US.lproj/pages/ObjectControl/pinning.html
  17. It sounds like you want to create a text style that will be used in new documents. https://affinity.help/publisher2/English.lproj/pages/Text/textStyles_remove.html To save a text style set as the default for new documents: Create a blank document. Edit your text styles to your liking. From Panel Preferences on the Text Styles panel, select Save Styles as Defaults. You can also import text styles from another Affinity document. https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/pages/Text/textStyles_create.html To import text styles from documents: Do one of the following: From the Text Styles panel, go to Panel Preferences and select Import Styles. Select Text>Text Styles>Import Text Styles.
  18. So it would appear that the position of the Text Styles dialog is "by design" and the position of other dialogs are a Windows bug. Same for me. The first thing I have to do after opening the Text Styles dialog is move it... usually to the same position I had it the last time I used it.
  19. I find this particularly frustrating for the Text Styles dialog. In V1 on Windows, the position of the Color Chooser and Text Wrap dialogs were not remembered. The issue was resolved in V2... the position of the Color Chooser and Text Wrap dialogs are now remembered. This is a post I created reporting it as a bug in V1... At the time of the above post, I hadn't identified all the windows for which position is not remembered. I'm not sure if this is a Windows-only issue or if Mac users also experience it. @Ronald N. Tan are you on Windows or Mac? Can a Mac user chime in and advise if the position of the dialog for Text Styles, Guides, and others are remembered or if they always display in the center of the screen?
  20. Agreed… I’d like to be able to create a table in the regular flow of text in a text frame too.
  21. I understand that now, but it was confusing to me initially. I’m used to working in apps that automatically save files to the cloud rather than on my device — it was a new concept to me.
  22. I forgot how the Contour Tool works. Using the Contour Tool like sfriedberg suggested is an easier option.
