  1. In this 2018 interview with Ashley Hewson, Managing Director of Serif, Ashley mentions that Affinity apps have "pretty much the same backend" and that adding video editing to Affinity would be a "monumental task." https://youtu.be/ABM60-0fbuM?t=146 (2:50)
  2. Before performing the Boolean operation, the stroke needs to be expanded. Select all the curve layers in the group, then Layer > Expand Stroke. Select all layers in the file, then Layer > Object > Subtract (or via the Subtract button in the Toolbar). I think that should do what you're trying to achieve.
  3. The Text Wrap floating window in Affinity Publisher has the issue on Windows -- it doesn't remember the last location I placed it in after closing the window. I'm not sure if this is by design or if it behaves differently for those using Affinity apps on a Mac.
  4. I've had this issue on Windows. Version 1.9.2
  5. I ran into this issue today. There's a misspelled word in an APub document I never noticed and Preflight hadn't identified it previously. I thought senility was setting in.
  6. @Old Bruce, Awesome, thanks for all the information. I did create the actual document I'm working on differently than the example -- master pages have appropriate names and all the layers are named... accept for the Frame Text layers. It never occurred to me to name them -- excellent suggestion. I probably could have gotten away with only one master. This was my first significant APub project and, in addition to not knowing what I was doing, I wasn't sure if I was going to need different page layouts. Trying to anticipate potential issues, I created one master with a running head and page numbers and another with the text frames. You're initial response got me thinking and gave a lightbulb moment. It's important to flow text from page to page to enable me to simply insert a page break to add a new page. There are quite a few elements that I didn't pin initially because it was getting complicated with all the info packed on some pages. But I'm at the point in my learning curve where I've decided to go back and pin every element on each page and add page breaks on every page. That should take care of my problem. Appreciate your help.
  7. Hey @Old Bruce, I can't wrap my head around your approach to adding pages... can you share a little more info? I don't understand what you mean by "apply the master page None" -- does that somehow get a blank page between two pages? I understand a printed document has an even number of pages. I was going to add the single page between pages where it needs to go, then add another page at the end to keep an even number of pages. The document I'm creating is an instruction manual with lots of annotated graphics, images, and pinned elements. Each page is a single topic and I didn't set up text to flow from page to page. As I'm thinking about it, when using facing pages I guess text should always be set up to flow from page to page with page breaks or whatever the best approach is when new sections need to start on the next page. Am I correct in that thinking? Thanks for the help.
  8. I need help understanding how master pages work. I created a document with facing pages that has text frames applied to the master pages. When I add a single page between two existing pages, the pages after the new one retain the text frame from the master page that was applied before adding the page -- i.e., the text frame from the left master page is on right facing pages and vise versa. All other elements on master pages are applied correctly. I've tried different text flow scenarios, like: flowing text between pages, not flowing text, inserting Frame Breaks. Nothing I've tried has had any effect. I've attached before and after examples. There are colored borders around the master page text frames to make it easier to see what's going on. Is there a way to add a single page between pages without messing up my document? Thanks. Example 1.afpub Example 2.afpub
  9. This appears to still be an issue. When I hide an instance of a symbol, all instances are hidden.
  10. In Publisher, I have a table that's inline in text. The table spans the full width of a single column text frame. Using Inline in Text doesn't seem like a good approach, though, because I have to set Offset in the Pinning Studio to the desired height to make space for the table -- if I add or remove content in the table I'll have to change the offset. Is there a way to make a table inline in text and have the text outside the table automatically adjust to the table size?
  11. Ah, I get it. Shape first, then convert to text frame. Good idea to keep in my bag of tricks. Thanks again.
  12. Agree... I wish spacebar didn't have to be pressed first. I miss not being able to use Ctrl/Alt + spacebar to zoom when I'm editing text.
  13. @Lagarto Thanks for the additional idea. I don't understand how you applied the border and corner radius. Can explain how that's done?
  14. @loukash Thank you man! I was able to add a border by applying a second decoration. I had to break out the calculator to figure that stuff out. It's not an ideal way to have to do it, but at least it can be done and I have a template I can use in the future. Appreciate your help.
  15. Awesome! Thanks @Old Bruce. Since I wasn't using multiple columns it didn't occur to me my text frame is in a column... it's just a single column. 🤦‍♂️ It doesn't look like there's a way to add a radius to the corners, am I correct?
  16. I’m looking for advice on how to create what I’ll call “text boxes” in Publisher. The element I want can be created in HTML with CSS and in Word with paragraph styles… but I can’t figure out how to do it in Publisher. I got close, but I can’t get the right side of the text boxes to extend to the right side of the text frame (see attached screenshot and APu file). These are the attributes I need the text boxes to have: Extend the full width of the text frame regardless of the amount of text in them. Height expands/contracts to fit text. In line with surrounding text — i.e., moves with surrounding text. The amount of space between the text and all four box borders can be precisely set (margin/padding). Background color and stroke can be applied. Thanks. 2021-06-15 Text Boxes.afpub
  17. @BofG Ya, if the OP wants a pure vector graphic, the file will have to be edited. I was just pointing out how the existing graphic can be exported in SVG format, which saves the vector objects and include PNG data for the layer effects.
  18. When I open the EPS files in an old version of Illustrator (CS6), all the layers are vector. When I open them in Designer, a significant portion of the layers are raster. Someone with more knowledge than I about working with EPS files in Designer will have to chime in on why this is occurring.
  19. I think the Align settings for stroke only apply to closed curves/shapes... and strokes on open curves are always center aligned. Are all the objects you're working with open curves?
  20. I think the issue is with the "Rasterize Nothing" in your export settings. Some things can't be exported as vector -- I believe this includes all layer effects. I'm guessing the inner shadows need to be rasterized. All the raster data will be included in the SVG file. Try using the Rasterize setting Unsupported properties. The attached AD file was saved with the unsupported properties rasterized. Export Raster Example.afdesign Export-Raster-Example.svg
  21. I'm not sure if this is a bug or an issue with my computer. The ruler guides set in the master spread don't show up on the first page. If I double click a spread after the first page in the Pages Panel, then scroll page 1 into view, the ruler guides are showing... but when editing page 1 the ruler guides disappear. Affinity Publisher v 1.9.2.1035 Windows 10 Any thoughts? Thanks. 2021-06-13 Guides on First Page of Facing Pages.mp4
  22. Excellent, thanks @walt.farrell. I'll make page 2 blank. I think I want the first page to be on the right, though. This is my first printed document with APub and I haven't done any test printing yet... the document is going to be 3-hole punched, so I believe with the first page on the right the inner margin is on the correct side. I'll test print the first few pages to make sure.
