I lost many hours of creative work due to the corruption of one of my files that I tried to include as a portion of a Book. I wish I had been warned or thought to make a backup before attempting this new feature in 2.0.  The intended functionalities of Book are exactly what I need and very well conceived indeed, just riddled with problems at the moment. The shared template for text styles in particular is a marvelously useful function of Book. I hope this will be remedied in an update.

On the Master Page:
Click the lower-right linking triangle on the left page's Text Frame. Click the right page's Text Frame. (Basically, the same way you'd link any two Text Frames. And note that you do it before you add text to the document pages, or at least before you reflow that text.)

To use plain text as filler text by default: From the Affinity Publisher menu, select Preferences. From the Edit menu, select Preferences. On the General tab, check Insert filler text as text.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You're not limited to Publisher templates - google IDML book templates and you can open those, too.
When I decided to create a book and chose Publisher I looked for book templates but I couldn't find one that I'd be happy using. Most of them had poorly thought out style sheets and I decided it would take me more time to fix them than to create a template from scratch. Creating my own template was an excellent way to learn Publisher's intricacies and I'm glad now I didn't try to make one of those templates work.
But if you want a template to get started, I suggest googling for IDML book templates. Most of them will say InDesign of course but as long as they're in IDML format you can open them in Publisher.

Affinity Publisher is not a web design application -- what you can do is use Designer or Photo to lay out a website and then export the assets (images) and send them to your web design app or your programmer.

I'll give Designer a try. It's only $24.99 right now, so even if I don't use it for covers, maybe it will come in handy for some future work.
I used WebPlus many years ago and have major appreciation for Serif, so I was thrilled to learn about the Affinity apps from a post on the Scrivener forum.

There are indeed: you need to be a member for a minimum of 4 posts and 3 days before you can change your profile picture without admin intervention.
Or even dishonest ones!
