Hopefully this is an easy fix.
I have 2 different files (designer) and they both have the same Colour Preferences (sRGB IEC61966-2.1), in fact all the colour options are the same.
But the colour wheels are different. One pops while the other one is just sort of dull. Same machine, same monitor, literally loaded into Designer side by side.
I can copy an icon from one to the other and it pops in one and is dull in the other.
Same HSL, 302/100/46.. a vivid pink in one, a drab pink in the other.
Please help.. what is going on here?

Oddly that doesn't seem to make a difference.
However, I think I found the answer. I don't need to paste without format! If I just regular copy and paste from Affinity Designer, that plonks it right where I want it.
Not sure why that didn't occur to me..
Thank you for your swift answer.

I have searched for help on this but can't see the answer. Maybe it is too obvious!
How do I control where the thing I am Pasting without Format ends up? It never ends up on the page I am working on. I then have to zoom to it and painstakingly drag it back into the page where it is needed.
Intuitively it seems like I should be able to select something and paste it pretty much there, but I can't work out how to do that.
I thought that pasting inside would be the solution, but it doesn't help.

That does sound promising! I appear to be on 1.9.2.1035.
How do I update Affinity designer? It's not prompting me (unlike Photo, which does).

Sorry for the delay in replying.
I purchased from the Affinity Store and am using it on PC.
It's not one file in particular. It can happen with any of them. I wonder if it is the file size - they are appx 40mb each.
The other problem is that Affinity crashes a lot. If I have more than two files open at the same time and I save one, it will sometimes just get stuck on the save. However, the save does happen. On relaunching Affinity Designer if I access the file it has been updated. Again, 40mb+ file sizes. Affinity Designer probably crashes on me 20 times a day if I am using it a lot.
This is more of a problem if I have more files open together, so I am guessing memory related.

The beta?
I don't think so. I am just using the regular Affinity Designer as far as I know (?). I am very much a late adopter by preference.
The files I am trying to open are ones I created myself in Affinity Designer.

Dear Affinity,
I am getting this error message a lot when trying to open files..
"Failed to open the file - The file includes features from a later version of Affinity."
I am using a PC with Windows and the desktop version. I have version 1.9.2.1035 which is the latest I believe. Desktop affinity updates automatically anyway I think.
Also, I created these files last night. On the same machine. Using the same software.
Is this a generic message for something else? Low memory or something?
It is a bit annoying. Sometimes I try later and the file opens, but it is really slowing me down.
It is also annoying that I have to shut the program down from task manager, because it insists:
"Quitting
At least one file is currently being opened. Please wait for files to load before quitting the application".
But the files don't load because of the former error message.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
After following your advice re the info panel I think the image is not as transparent as I thought! Those pixels have RBG 0 but A 255, so I need to go back to the program that spat it out, which is where the issue will be. Not an affinity product that is doing that.
The difficulty being that Affinity is the only program I have that can open exr, otherwise I suspect I would have noticed this sooner!
Thank you for your help.

This should be so simple, I can't believe I can't do it.
I have two images (both exr). One has a transparent background. I just want the one with the transparent background on top so they are (crudely) composited. With the lower image appearing where the transparency is on the upper image.
Once I get them into Affinity (Photo or Designer) I can't make it happen.
I thought the way to do this was to pop the top image above the other one, change it to Add and that would do it. What happens is the top image is half visible, like a ghost. As if it were partly opaque. But the opacity settings for both the layers are at 100%.
This is bread and butter stuff I am sure, but I must be missing something super basic. I could do it in seconds in gimp, well - if they were png I could, but I am lost here for some reason.
I don't want to mask anything manually. I'll never get it as accurate as it already is.
Any help much appreciated!

Thanks, this was it.
Assumed there was a (relatively) easy fix.
Was confusing me as they both had the same settings under Edit/Preferences/Colour
But you are right, RGB and CMYK selected respectively in Document Setup/Colour
