Click here to download the latest beta
Status: Customer Beta
Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
Requirements: A valid product key (for Affinity Store purchases), or an installation of the full retail version from the Microsoft Store
As this is a beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents. We hope you enjoy the latest build, and as always, if you've got any problems, please don't hesitate to post a new thread in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks once again for your continued feedback.
If you have a general question about the software, please head over to the Questions Forum, or if you have any suggestions, please head over to the Feature Requests forum.New Feature: Product registration and store content streaming
We have now added the ability to link your Affinity app to your Affinity account through a new app registration process. This will have the advantages of you being able to stream any content you have purchased or received for free from the Affinity store directly to all your apps without having to manually install them. This is of particular use to customers who have more than one of our apps, or run our apps on different devices and operating systems as all your content will automatically be available across all of them.
If you register the beta app you will initially receive a free brush kit (the luminance brush kit) for testing purposes. This might be a kit you already have, but if you don’t you will get it for free. In a couple of weeks this will be expanded to include all of the store content you may already own.
While this is the full scope of what we are implementing for 1.9, the link between your account and your apps will open up the possibility for us to offer other features and services in the future which we think you will like.
Known Issue: 23/10/2020 @ 7:30am GMT, this issue is now resolved.
Users with certain locales are being presented with an Internal Server Error when trying to register their applications. We are aiming to resolve this issue (server-side, no application update required) tomorrow morning. I will update this post when the issue has been resolved.Changes
- Added Affinity Registration and Content Sync
- [Installer] Fixed crash when the current monitor profile is set to a virtual profile
- Fixed Curves panel Y values being reversed
- Fixed Curves panel not updating when tabbing through the X and Y boxes
- Fixed Curves panel difficultly dragging nodes
- Fixed Keyboard Shortcut Preferences for Undo/Redo showing the name of the last action
- Fixed Keyboard Shortcut Preferences not showing Ctrl+Shift+1 to 9 as being used
- Fixed Studio Presets not being reset when holding down Ctrl at start
- Added Image Placement Policy option
- Added Resource Manager to menus
- Added Show/Hide Text Overflow toggle

Thanks @Fritz_H. Unfortunately in this case it really is a "general" improvement to the underlying architecture. Things are "different" now, hopefully in a good way. But play around with brushes, filters etc, see how they compare to before.

On a HD Graphics 4600, it's probably not much faster than CPU. Later integrated chips should have a decent improvement (see https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/124022-benchmark-1900-results/ for some benchmark results). Bear in mind, that's for Photo, which uses the GPU in a slightly different way to Designer.

Beta 1.9.0.791
I don't have a graphic card, only Intel HD Graphics 4600 (i3-4000M CPU), but out of interest thought I'd see if I could squeeze a bit more performance out of this old laptop.
Not sure if this is expected but this is the message I received from Windows notification panel just before beta stopped working.
First time I've seen that message. Seems like you can get that when your driver is in a bad way. I had a quick internet search and this was the top result:

The shift key could make the rotation stepped, as it does when an object is rotated.
- Added ability to rotate view around mouse with Alt+MouseWheel. Shift+Alt+MouseWheel will rotate around the centre. Holding Ctrl at the same time will increase rotation speed. Added Ctrl+Shift+Alt+R as new default shortcut for resetting the view rotation.
Shift is already allocated in this shortcut.

Both of those log files don't seem to contain anything more than the standard information that Affinity logs during startup.
I wonder if the output to the log file is buffered and the final lines didn't get written to the file because of the hang? The logs I get when Photo has closed successfully have several more lines than the logs when I've had to kill it using the Task Manager, which could indicate that buffering is happening.
This is true. I've improved the logging to make sure lines are flushed to disk after writing for the hardware acceleration logging now (this will be available in the next beta).

Tested with latest version, hangs on save with Acceleration turned on. As such, acceleration looks unusable.
Can you try the following for me (with the latest beta).
Set the following environment variable: PersonaIsOpenCLLoggingEnabled to the value 1.
Then can you reproduce the hang, wait a minute, kill the app and then attach the %APPDATA%\Affinity\Photo\1.0 (Beta)\Log.txt file here please?

Any plans to make these presets "exportable" for loading later on just like we do with Shortcuts? Very sweet addition but would love to know if such an option will be made available.
Maybe. Currently they can be manually copied from the relevant folders under %APPDATA%, but we may add a more user friendly version at some point.

Just to clarify - the rotation is the canvas rotation, you aren't rotating the document.

I love this mouse rotation... now just need to find a way to do the same with my Wacom pen.... some day.... when you'll have nothing to do....
Keep watching this space 🙂

Can we use the two finger rotate gesture on the Surface Pro to do this as well? Just like in the iPad.
On the screen, yes, we've always supported that. If you're talking about the Trackpad, then no.

So I don't know if it is because of the Drivers or the fact that OpenCl v2.1 NEO is used by the HD 630 and OpenCL v1.2 CUDA by the GTX1050.
We don't use OpenCL 2.x, so it won't be related to that. More than likely to do with the monitor configuration. We'll have to try to reproduce that here.

Hi Mark, Yes they are with the NVIDIA v456.55 and the INTEL HD630 v27.20.100.8783 ... I wonder if it is an issue with both GPUs being listed (used) as being enabled for OpenCL compute acceleration. Other apps that use Open CL tend to use the one GPU for acceleration because OpenCL is different versions on the HD630 and the GTX1050.
Ah I thought I had the same setup, Intel 630 + GTX 1050, but I actually have the GTX 1650.
