Hello Garry, thx, but I have the "Affinity V2 Universal License" so this it not a number of licences question...
Question: How can I "unlink" my Apps from my Apple account and link them to my Serif account?
Thx, rgds, Erik
I’m not sure what you mean here. Did you register your Universal Licence with your Affinity ID?

This is just a beautiful excuse for them to deliberately degrade the UI of the Windows version. Don't forget that the people here are designers and painters, and they are all colleagues. Don't lie!
Please don’t accuse people of lying, especially when you have zero evidence to back up your claim.
I’m the Windows Tech Lead, and we implemented a custom drawn window for the app, which means that the Windows OS does not automatically provide shadows for us. We could spend time implementing the missing shadows, or we could work on bug fixes and features instead. It all comes down to priorities - there is no conspiracy. -

I want to use [Affinity Designer] that I purchased at the Microsoft Store on another PC, but I am having problems
When I purchased Affinity Designer from the Microsoft Store, it was activated without receiving a product key.
Since I activated the software without the product key, I am unable to activate [Affinity Designer] on other PCs.
Can I receive the product key now?Did you register the licence to an Affinity ID after you purchased the licence?

Great news about the MSI installer!
Will this will mean that it can be installed on Windows 8.1, or is there some other reason that would prevent this?
Sorry the apps don’t support Windows 8.1. You need Windows 10 May 2020 (build 19041) or later.
-
That still won’t help unfortunately. The app does not support Windows 7.

One of the benefits of MSIX was listed as easier upgrades. If I stick with MSIX will my apps update automagically? Or do I have to download new installers still?
Since I don't need to change the default install location and I never need to poke around the install directory, the switch to MSIX had not bothered me. If it updates itself, I'll stick with it, too.
Yes - if you already have the MSIX installed, it'll prompt you to update and perform the update in-app. There's no need for you to change anything 🙂

Hi all. Thanks for your patience over the weekend when our offices were closed.
We've had a meeting this morning and decided to ALSO offer MSI installers to, those people who would like them. I can't tell you when this will happen, as there is engineering work that will be required to allow this to happen, but we hope it won't be long.
Thanks for your feedback!

I have installed all my programs using Revo Uninstaller Pro. But Revo does not support the installation of MSIX apps. If Serif had clearly stated that version 2 was to be installed as an MSIX app, and explained the consequences of this move, I would have remained with version 1. The arguments of Serif for using MSIX are unconvincing, and anyway unimportant to me. I am now considering asking for a refund.
There is zero need for Revo Uninstaller Pro when using MSIX - you are guaranteed a clean uninstall, that's one of the benefits over MSI!

If an update breaks something how can I revert back to a previous update? I also like having downloaded copies of the updates, can we still do that?
You download the previous version and just install it.
Yes you can download full copies if you really want to. -
The biggest benefit of switching to MSIX is the easier, smaller and faster in-app updates that weren’t previously available in v1. Customers wanted a better update experience from what we offered in v1, and MSIX allowed us to deliver that. Obviously as there has been no updates yet, no-one in this thread has experienced that yet.

The only plausible reason for continuing this idiocy is that you are contractually obligated to supply it as a MSIX, and maybe the suits would have to forfeit their MS stock option perks. Or there's been a strategic decision to compete with the Paint.NET, or go after the people who always wanted to run Photoshop on the Zune.
None of that is true. Reasons can be found at the FAQ:

So the license file can be copied and used for example on the new machine? Is it stored in C:\... \AppData\Local?
Nope sorry, we prevent moving licences between machines for obvious reasons 🙂

@Mark Ingram The installer zip file doesn't work with Fast Raw Viewer, realised I'd already tried it the other day but went ahead and tried again, it opens Ver 2 okay but fails to retreive the RAW file. Is there anything concrete on the horizon? I'm still using
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\AffinityPhoto2.exe
It works fine but I take it it's not future proof for some reason?
That's the official App Execution Alias which the MSIX installer creates for us - and is the recommended way of launching our apps - if your third-party software supports it. If the third-party software has a bug in it, I provide the aflaunch app to work around that.
Basically, if C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\AffinityPhoto2.exe works, then use it 🙂

I don't want to go the unzipped route and look forward to a better fix. My XPS-15 has up to date Windows 10 and should be very capable of running V2.
For what it’s worth, I developed (parts of) the apps on a Dell XPS 15 initially running Windows 10 then later upgraded to Windows 11, so I can absolutely confirm that v2 should work on that machine 🙂

I used the Mac App Store to download Designer 2 and paid for the universal license using an in-app purchase, and Designer 2 is now working properly. I then downloaded Photo 2 and tried to activate the universal license. Neither emails I have will work. So I signed into serif.com to check my licenses, and neither email logins show that I've purchased the Universal License.
I simply need to find the right account I bought this under, since I used the App Store do buy it on an in-app purchase.
After you did the in-app purchase, you should have been presented with a screen similar to:
Did you see something like this? Did you create an account / use an existing account?

Disappointed that I can't upgrade to Affinity 2

1. Technically that's already possible now, but DxO Photolab has a bug in it that prevents it from working with the "App Execution Alias". Using the legacy MSI installer will allow you to find the Photo2.exe in your installation and have DxO Photolab point at it (just the same as v1). If you want to use DxO Photolab with the v2 MSIX installer, you can use the aflaunch app here to work around their bug:
2. I don't know when you started your trial, so I can't say.
3. No, the trials are for a single 30 day period.
4. I can't comment on when the MSI installers will be available, but we hope it won't be a long wait.
For now, I suggest you try the aflaunch approach, as that will allow you to evaluate the app fully during the trial period.
