  1. Hi, we could do with a bit more information to help fix this. Do you have anything in the %APPDATA%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports folder? If so, can you attach it here? Also, if you rename the %APPDATA%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta)\ folder to something else (rename it to keep a copy, just in case it's your settings which are causing the crash), then start up, does it still crash?
  2. Thanks for the reports, I've fixed the issue now, and will be available in the next build.
  3. Excellent! Feel free to create a feature request for a change to the UI, and we'll consider it. The current aim of this release is to have feature parity with the macOS version.
  4. Yeah, certainly odd! We perhaps ask Windows to retrieve some information for us (e.g. Fonts, or ICC profiles) and perhaps Windows queries other drives without us knowing.
  5. Hi, we don't search all hard drives at startup, we only look in %TEMP, %APPDATA%, and the installed directory. As you've noted, disconnecting the external HDD has no impact on Designer starting (because we don't need any resources on it).
  6. Can you attach the file so we can try to reproduce it? Have a look in %APPDATA%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports and see if there are any reports in there.
  7. It's now available - https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/27010-affinity-designer-public-beta-rc4-15028-windows/
  8. Build 27 (RC3) doesn't have the fix in, the fix is in 28 (RC4), which isn't released yet. Also, we found a terrible performance problem when the Effects Panel is visible. Make sure that when typing text, that panel isn't visible (ideally make sure that panel is never visible, as it slows lots of operations down). The fix for the Effects Panel won't be in build 28, but will hopefully be in build 29.
  9. Can you just check the following settings for me: Type "Display settings" into the Windows menu, what size is set? Mine is 200% (as I'm using a 4K monitor), if you're on a HD monitor, it should probably be 100%. Then click "Advanced display settings" at the bottom of that window, and scroll down to "Advanced sizing of text and other items". Click that, then click on "set a custom scaling level" on the final screen. Again mine is 200%.
  10. Well that's incredibly odd, this is what your screen should look like (out of the box): As you can see, there is plenty of room! I think you must have an odd screen scale setting somewhere in Windows.
  11. Well, Microsoft said it "mainly" works, with all Surface devices, so I wonder if there will be some restrictions on them? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/accessories/surface-dial
  12. I can't wait to try out the Surface Dial. Hopefully we can get hold of one and look at implementing some cool features with it.
  13. The toolbar on the left is double width, you can change that to single width, and also, your window isn't maximised, so the studio panels will take up proportionally more space. Have you tried dragging the document window off and sizing that as large as you like? That way there are no tools attached to the document.
  14. Hi Dave, have you changed the controller on the brush context bar to be "Pressure"?
  15. All updates for major versions are included, i.e. free updates for 1.x. This includes bug fixes and new features (take a look at the new features that have been added to the macOS version over the last 15 months for examples).
  16. Yes. (The macOS version has been available for 15 months now, and it has had the same rapid evolution as we have had during the beta. All included in the original purchase price.)
