  1. @thomaso: Thanks for the tip. But in my case it will not work. The reason is that my task is a bit more complex than I described at the beginning. My task is the following: I design a magazine with many articles. Each article is assigned to one of five categories. I want to make this assignment of an article to a certain category visible in the table of contents with icons. Here the icon should be placed in front of the headline. To make this possible, I have defined five different paragraph styles for the formatting of the heading in the magazine. These are basically identical. The five identical heading styles allow me in the table of contents to tell which category the article belongs to. This way I can determine for example that the appropriate category keyword precedes the article title in each of these paragraph styles. But: I don't find writing out the category of the articles in the table of contents as nice as using icons. To prefix the titles in the table of contents with their own icons, I apparently have to create a custom font first. It's actually a pity that this is so complicated. I had imagined it to be easier. Kind regards. Rüdiger
  2. @walt.farrell: Thanks for the tip and link to the other topic. I will try that out. Apart from that, it seems to me that there could or should be a simpler or more direct way to import your own icons as bullet points. Maybe this is even a suggestion to the developers. Kind regards. Rüdiger
  3. Hallo, I want to create lists with own icons instead of bullet-points. How can I manage this? I don't find a possibility to import icons into lists oder paragraph-styles. There is only the possibility to use the glyphen-browser. Thanks for help. Kind regards, Rüdiger
  4. After trying a lot, I still think it would be an interesting tool if you could change and update assets afterwards (like you can do with master pages).
  5. Hello, I have two questions about placing photos in Affinity Publisher. Background info: The finished brochure is created in CMYK and is to be printed by a printing company. 1. what is the best format to put the photos in the publisher layout? .afphoto OR .jpg 2. how and where do I change the photos from RGB to CMYK? Thanks for the help! Kind regards, Rüdiger v. Schönfels
  6. Hello Affinity Team, I would like to color the "Frame Fill" in a "Text Frame" and set it for expample to 70% opacity. The text itself should not become transparent! The problem: In the input area for "Frame Fill" I can apparently only make the color transparent via a slider. But this slider does not show how much opacity is set. This makes it almost impossible to set the same transparent background for several identical text frames. Or is there somewhere a possibility to adjust the opacity value numerically for "Frame Fill"? Thanks for the help; kind regarss, Rüdiger von Schönfels This is an example of a "Text Frame" on a picture. The background-color of the "Text Frame" should be transparent. The Font Color should not be transparent: Here I am setting the Color for Frame Fill and the opacitiy with the slider which does not show any number to check or justify the opacity
  7. Ok, I found out what the problem is: I have defined the text style "Paragraph with two-digit initial" so far only via the studio "TextStyles". I didn't take into account that in the "Paragraph" studio, settings for "Initial" are also made. There the check mark was set at "Automatic". If I remove this here, the initial appears with two or more letters, depending on how many I define in my TextStyle.
  8. The paragraphs now start normally with words instead of numbers and dots. But nothing changes, no matter what settings I change. For example: I have set the initial to be three or four or five letters as a test. But nothing happens. It remains with an initial with the first letter.
  9. Thank you for pointing out symbols. I have two questions about this: 1. if I create a symbol with Designer, but I can't create it as an asset in Publisher, how do I call the symbol in Publisher? 2. can I fill the symbol individually with text in the Publisher afterwards? Kind regards Rüdiger
  10. Hallo Old Bruce thanks for Your quick reply. 1. I only justified small details of the text style I have defined. In fact I tryed a lot to solve the problem and deletet all changes I had made before. But the initial remains with the first letter. 2. The initial should be a number with a dot. There is no space between them. For exampler: 1. or 2. or 3. and so on Kind regards Rüdiger
  11. Hello How do I get a paragraph style to display the initial as I have defined it: Height in lines: 2 Characters: 2 Automatic: yes Distance to text: 1mm Align left edge: yes Scale for descenders: yes Unfortunately this does not work. The initial contains only the first letter. The strange thing is: When I first tried this setting, it worked and I had an initial with two letters. A few days later I renamed my paragraph format and changed it in other places. Since then it doesn't work as it should do - no matter what other settings I change to find out which setting is interfering only the first letter in the paragraph becomes the initial letter. Is this possibly related to the baseline grid? Sincerely Rüdiger
  12. Hello, I have a need to modify assets in Affinity Publisher so that all applications of that asset in the layout are automatically updated. But this doesn't seem to be possible. What exactly I mean is witnessed by this example: The asset: I have defined a group of design elements as an asset. For example, this consists of several text boxes and lines. In the text boxes I enter an individual text at each position in the layout where I insert the asset. The task: Now I want to change the asset afterwards. For example, I want to change the width of the text boxes. The desired solution: It would be very helpful if I could change the asset centrally, so that the changes are also updated everywhere in the layout where I have inserted the asset. The individual text should not be lost in the process. The current practice: Unfortunately, it does not seem to be possible to change the assets centrally at the moment. So far I have only found this way: 1. step: I have to delete the "old" asset in the "shelf" and replace it with the updated "new" one. 2. step: I search in the layout all places with the "old" asset and exchange there in each case the "old" against the "new". I then have to re-enter the individual text contents that I inserted in the "old" versions. This is a lot of work if you have already used the asset in the layout many times. The alternative to this step is: Make the changesm that turn the "old" into the "new" asset in all the places where I have already inserted the "old" asset. This is also very cumbersome. Is there a solution that saves one the multiple work? That would be quite wonderful. Sincerely Rüdiger
