  1. You should always be able to delete a page. What happens when you select the page in the Pages panel and delete it? Perhaps the page is being deleted (look at the History panel) but the Endnotes text is in a frame that is linked to another frame, so all you're doing is removing a page with one frame from the story (the linked series of frames). If that's the case you probably chose the End of Story option and to delete the Endnote title you would simply drag select it and delete it. As long as you delete everything from the bottom of your text to the end of the story then you'll delete all the hidden endnote stuff. Note, it's always best to work with Highlight Fields and Show Special Characters on when working with notes. The Text > Notes > Insert Endnote command and the accompanying button in the panel should never be disabled unless the cursor isn't in a text frame or object or if the cursor is in an endnote. Where is your cursor? Can you share a screen recording of the issue? Do you mean the Find and Replace panel? It works on body text and endnote text so what do you mean it doesn't work? Can you describe what is happening in more detail? Endnotes (and footnotes and sidenotes) can be confusing because of the document-wide versus custom options. And there are still a couple of bugs with notes. You'll find a lot more information on getting the most out of notes in the free PDF manual I've shared in this forum - the link is in my signature below. Cheers
  2. Hi, it was this way in v1, too. I agree that it would be better with +/- but this isn't a new issue in 2.4.
  3. You can also right-click art text to convert to frame text but you can't right-click frame text to convert to art text, probably because the latter is less common. Use the Layer menu for the full set of commands.
  4. Hi Joe. Is the higher level heading in a different text frame than the lower level heading? If so, note that Publisher doesn't find headings from the top of the page to the bottom but from the bottom of the layer stack to the top of the layer stack. You can solve this by moving the frame for the higher level heading to back. I've written extensively about creating tables of contents in the free Publisher manual that I've shared in this forum. The link is in my signature below. Cheers
  5. I haven't used AutoFlow at all for this book so while it might produce similar symptoms, it's not what I'm doing.
  6. @Hangman That makes a lot more sense than a frame that is linked to itself, I'm a bit embarassed that I didn't check for that. Thanks for the catch! Now that I better understand the end result is I can try to figure out how it is happening. Perhaps it has something to do with inserting a single page (in a facing pages doc) and then applying a master as a separate step.
  7. There must be something else going on. I haven't had any random crashes like that with selecting long blocks of text, at least with Metal disabled.
  8. Hi and welcome to the forums. You can't do this, the Find in Document feature only works on individual chapters. This is frequently requested and to me it seems like an oversight so I hope Serif will add it at some point. BTW I've written a free manual for Publisher and shared it here in the forums that covers the index and book features. You can download it from the link in my signature. Cheers
  9. It works for me on macOS Sonoma. I think this was a bug in one of the 2.x versions but was fixed a while ago. Are you using the 2.4 beta?
  10. This has been a problem since the release of 2.0 and isn't new in the 2.4 beta.
  11. You don't have to type AND, that's what it does by default. Here's one other trick you can use when searching is to preface a search term with a - "Apples -Oranges" means "Apples but not Oranges"
  12. Hmm, that's actually a second copy of the master page frame - if you name them left and right on the master, they are left, right and right (from top to bottom) in the panel. This has happened me to quite a few times now, along with other variations and I'm fairly certain it's the migrate content feature but I still don't know the steps. While it's a useful feature it doesn't do it in the best possible way. test.afpub For example, apply master Base to page 3 without changing any options. The body frame on page 2 will be linked to the header frame on page 3 and then to the body frame on page 4. I understand why Publisher is doing this (the user chose to migrate content and since there is only one frame on the page now Publisher used it even though it's obviously a terrible outcome). Now you might say the user should use Clear instead of Migrate but perhaps you have other master content (for example in a picture frame) that you don't want cleared. So your choice is to lose content or to have bad linking. The problem wouldn't occur if the page number frames on the Base master were changed to art text objects because then Publisher couldn't use it as a target for linking. Instead it would promote the body frame to the document page and the outcome would be good. This is what I mean by the migrate content code not being smart enough. A human being would look at it and realize you can't link a body frame to a page number header frame. I wish the code had an extra check to see if it was logical, i.e., if the frame is below a certain height relative to the page then it's probably not what the user would want to link to. It could prompt the user and ask if you want to promote the content or it could simply link the frame on the previous page to the following page, skipping the page that doesn't have a suitable body frame. Maybe someday. I will keep looking for how to create the circular linking but it's something to do with this.
  13. It is a tiny bit slower with Metal off but on an M1 it's plenty fast enough. I'm glad turning it off solved the problem for you. Please ensure that any fonts you post publicly here are not paid fonts - it's usually better just to provide the fonts directly to serif if they ask you for them instead of publicly in the forum. Note that I don't work for Serif. Good luck.
  14. Caroline, the default master option is on by default for Publisher, I think you must have turned it off by mistake the first time you used it.
  15. I agree, I think this is the hard way to lay out the page especially if you're using footnotes. I think it would be much easier with a single text frame. The top bar chart should be pinned inline - the caption below it could be regular text or a text frame grouped with the bar chart The pie chart below it should be pinned floated with wrapping enabled Then the footnotes will just work as they should. Cheers
  16. There are too many missing fonts for me to track down to try to replicate the issue, but please ensure you have Metal disabled if you're on an M1 or later. Open Affinity Settings, click Performance, and deselect Hardware Acceleration > Enable Metal. Then change Display to OpenGL. There are some 'random' crash bugs like this with Metal enabled. It can crash when zooming in, when rescaling a picture, etc. All of that goes away with Metal off. Good luck.
  17. A document can be created without a master page by deselecting the Default Master option in the New Document window. So yes, that's the problem. If you start a document without a master page, add a master page, and then insert a page number on that master page, the page numbers won't appear on document pages. I apologize, I didn't look at the test document that closely. Caroline, while you did successfully add the page numbers to the master pages, you didn't apply the master pages to the document pages. Also, this document opens to the master page, you didn't switch back to the document page to see the effect of the change. When you tap the pages vs. master pages toggle at the top of the Pages panel, you still must tap the page you want to view. In this case you should have tapped page 1 to go back to it. Also, page 1 in this test document has three adjustment layers applied to it which aren't doing anything - I assume you added those by mistake while you were testing. I suggest starting over, this time with Default Master selected in the New Document window. It's a small toggle which you probably turned off by mistake
  18. I've seen this a few times today - a text frame linked to itself. I've attached a minimal test doc that shows this. I'm not entirely sure how I created it but I'm working in a different manner than normal this month on a different book and this is one of the two issues I've been seeing. The other issue is having the main frame linked to a header frame. I suspect this is a master page issue as the frames are all on masters. And every time I encounter a really odd issue it seems to be something with masters. 🙂 I think both problems occur when I apply a different master - it's probably something to do with the feature that promotes objects. I'll keep an eye out for the exact steps but in the meantime here is the test doc that shows a frame linked to itself. test2.afpub
  19. Use Ungroup All instead for now, or manually drag the items out of the group and then delete the group.
  20. For the simple two-column layout on the right page, just create a text frame with two columns instead of two separate frames and use the Positioning > Note Position > Bottom of Frame option. The left page is more complex. Typically you would create it with a horizontal frame at the top and a single frame below it that is divided into two columns, with the top frame linked to the bottom frame. If you use Bottom of Frame for this setup, a footnote in the top frame would appear at its bottom rather than in the frame below. There isn't a way to do what you want now, but hopefully someday it will be possible to span text across multiple columns and then you could use a single frame to achieve this layout. For now, you might have to fake it. I assume the left page layout is for the start of a chapter. Hopefully you're restarting footnote number with each chapter. If this is the case, then the first footnotes that might happen to be in that small frame at the top of the left page would be limited to 1 or 2. In this case, I would type fake footnote reference numbers in the correct positions. Then near the top of the left column of the bottom frame, I'd insert the actual footnotes and just change those footnote references to be invisible by changing their fill to none. Good luck!
  21. I can't see what you're doing there but if you turn on Highlight Fields then you should see shading behind a valid field. I'm not seeing that in your recording but I don't know if you have highlight fields on or not.
  22. Hi Caroline, somehow you have inserted a # sign and not a page number field. If you tap the right side of the preview icon in the upper right (the one that looks like a wiper), ensure you tap the menu icon on its right side, and then tap Highlight Fields from its menu, you will see shading behind all fields such as page numbers. There is no shading behind the # signs you have entered so those are just # signs. Now it's possible you did insert a page number field and then while still on the master page converted it to plain text by selecting it and choosing Expand field, but that would take extra effort so you probably didn't do that. I suggest deleting that # sign and trying to insert the page number again. Good luck.
  23. It should probably be an option. It's the same as TOC, it would be very nice to have line breaks in headings removed when generating a TOC from those headings but not everybody will want that so other apps make it optional.
  24. They should just show up, it worked fine when I tried it just now. The only thing I can think of is that you've added the page numbers to Master A but pages 1 and 2 aren't based on Master A. They would be by default. Could you please upload that test document here so we can see it? Thanks
  25. This is a great bug report! It happens for me with your steps, too.
