  1. Why would you want to create an object and not have it selected after creation? I'd never noticed this feature until now, it seems rather unusual.
  2. I know you asked about the context menu but FYI it's also in the Context toolbar - just click the Replace Image button.
  3. Creating epub is also very professional. My point was that the lack of epub support doesn't mean Publisher isn't a professional app, it just might not be the right tool at this time for some people's work.
  4. I'm not experiencing any random bugs like you are and I'm also on macOS Intel. There are a couple of minor bugs I've reported that haven't been fixed yet but they don't cause issues and are easy to work around. I'm finding 1.10.1 to be rock solid for the type of work I'm doing.
  5. I hadn't read this thread until now so I missed the fun. Publisher allows objects to be selected with any tool which is super convenient and reduces the need to switch tools as much as apps without this approach but it introduces UI inconsistency. For example - I can select an inline picture frame with almost any tool, even the Triangle tool, but not with the Frame Text tool. Sadly, selecting inline picture frames while editing text is a common use case so there's a bit of a UI gap. When I first started using Publisher after not using a page layout app for eons, muscle memory kicked in and I tried to press Esc twice to switch from editing text to the Move tool and I was confused when it didn't work. It's because Publisher has the concept of selecting objects with any tool. Great idea, but I still wish we could press Esc when nothing is selected to switch to the Move tool. So my request is that if no objects are selected and the user presses Esc, which is currently unassigned to any action, that this would change to the Move tool. I keep Tools hidden to save horizontal real estate. I know I can press Esc and then V and I do this but I have to think a bit each time I do it while hammering on Esc is something my primitive brain understands. 🙂
  6. I just wiggle the cursor by pressing left/right arrow repeatedly until I see it. This isn't a situation unique to Publisher. However, there is a minor bug that I haven't been able to put my finger on which makes this more challenging - occasionally, searching will take you to the right page but not to the right place on the page. This wouldn't be a problem for anybody working on a large monitor but if like me you're using a 13" laptop the spot that Publisher finds could be a couple of inches outside of the visible scroll region. I reproduced the bug just now to verify my memory on it but it's hard to trigger and it took me a while so I don't know what steps are required.
  7. The problem may have to do something with finding linked resources - I was able to open it on Big Sur (intel), perhaps because I don't have access to the linked resources. Try opening this converted file now. Perhaps try changing the path to the linked resources before opening the files so they can't be found during conversion and then re-linking them? red-converted.afpub
  8. FWIW, it's a feature request and not a bug. In some apps, holding down Option will change what's shown in the menus but this is not true for every app, it's up to the developer. If you try TextEdit and open File menu, pressing Option will change the Close menu command to Close All and the Duplicate command to Save As. User experience designers have debated this approach for years. It's terrible for discovery because you have to open each menu and toggle Option to see if anything changes to discover if there are any features you don't know about. It's great for power users or those who read the manual but simply adding a separate Close All command would be more useful, although it would take up more space. It doesn't appear that Serif is using Option to modify the behaviour of any of its menu commands* which makes sense given it's a cross-platform app. * There is one exception, Option modifies the Window > Tile Window to Left of Screen command to become Move Window to Left Side of Screen. Same for the Right Side obviously.
  9. I was able to open and resave it so try this version to see if it makes a difference for you. What version of Publisher did you create it in? Mesures simples-resaved.afpub
  10. While you're waiting for an answer, I resaved these from 1.10.1 for you since I was able to open them on my computer. PG Performance-resaved.afpub XR Extreme-resaved.afpub
  11. FYI, I'm able to open your document and move around it without issues using Publisher 1.10.1 on macOS Big Sur Intel. I am missing some of your fonts. So the good news is the problem may not be the document and you will be able to retrieve your work once the issue you're experiencing is sorted out.
  12. Yes, that was my objection, the change would adversely impact me and I suspect many users.
  13. Which measurement system are you using? I use picas and points which allows for tenth of a point precision which is more than adequate. Do you mean the X-Height or Cap Height? I think what Affinity offers are the most commonly-used settings but if you're used to InDesign's Offset feature then you're out of luck. This would be a feature request and not a bug report.
  14. Off topic, but picas and points is the traditional measurement system for professional page layout in North America. It's ideal since type is already measured in points.
  15. It's funny, there are other features I'd like such as cross references, multiple indices, and span columns, but a checkbox to turn off hyphenation for capitalized words is my #1 feature request. I'd pay for an upgrade just for this one feature. The workarounds suggested are great and I'm using them but they're easy to forget.
  16. Here's a video that shows the difference in behaviour between a text frame that has been scaled with the frame's "Scale handle". You can find more information on the Scale handle here: https://affinity.help/designer/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Text/frameText.html?title=Frame text Screen Recording 2021-08-17 at 9.15.57 AM.mov
  17. That's the expected behaviour for a text frame that has been scaled manually.
  18. I was procrastinating so I spent 15 minutes to troubleshoot the problem and fix your document. 🙂 The problem was with the layer named "Master Page" that was on several pages of your original document which didn't correspond to a master page in your document. I don't know why its presence causes the crash so Serif will have to investigate. The way to narrow down a problem like this is to reduce the crash to the minimum number of pages and objects. I deleted all but the first page of your document and it didn't crash so I then deleted all but the first two pages and it did crash which told me the issue was with page 2. I deleted all the objects on page one and then on page two and it still crashed. The problem was the empty layer named Master Page on page 2 which was not associated with a master page. This layer was used on several pages of your document so I looked through it and deleted the layer of each of them. You can choose facing pages with this fixed version now and it will work or you can make your own fixed copy by going through your document page by page and looking for the layer named Master Page to delete. 19. I would very much dislike this - I rarely name my groups and I don't want focus to be shifted to the Layers panel after I group my objects.
  20. I was able to duplicate this crash bug in 1.10.0 It seems to happen with any of the shaded emoji, something as simple as a TM symbol or domino won't crash. 1. Choose the Artistic Text tool 2. Insert emoji (I tried a smiley face and a cat but only one at a time) 3. Choose the Move tool 4. Right click object and choose Convert to Curves
  21. Lots of people with Windows computers use iPads so if a touch UI and stylus are your primary needs then an iPad is the way to go. You can also use your Microsoft Office apps on an iPad.
  22. Just a suggestion, but you might want to try deleting the table of contents and then choosing Save As. Perhaps once it's removed things will be back to normal in 1.9.x.
  23. It's also worth pointing out that there are two types of text tools and you might be thinking of the other one. The A tool is Artistic Text, known in some programs as text blocks or frameless text. Just select this tool, click anywhere on a blank spot on the page where there isn't already any text, and start typing. There will be no right edge to what you type, it will keep going without wrapping until you press return. Artistic text is useful for short snippets, and um, artistic text. The T tool is for Frame Text. You can't just click and start typing, you have to either 1: click and drag to draw a text frame - the insertion point (cursor) will appear in the new frame automatically. Or 2: click in an existing frame to place the insertion point in it. Framed text has a right margin so it wraps automatically. The problem you experienced is you picked the Frame Text tool and then clicked on a blank spot which does nothing, you have to click and drag. Since then didn't have the insertion point in a text frame or in an artistic text object and then started typing, some of those keystrokes were interpreted as keyboard shortcuts.
