I believe those are level 1 paragraphs and there is no parent level to inherit from.
Here's a quick test document that might help you out. Checkout the settings in this and compare it to your own.

Hi all, happy new year.
I’m literally pulling my hair out over this. I have searched the help section, I’ve searched youtube and asked in various relevant facebook groups and not a single source will give me a straight answer to what I feel should be a really easy question.
I would be so grateful if someone could PLEASE give me step by step instructions on how to add page numbers to a multi page Publisher document on the iPad. I’ve been using Designer for years but I’m relatively new to Publisher so I don’t know all the terms and where to find things.
Thank youHi, you'll find the instructions for Mac and Windows in the free manual I've shared in the forum (see the link in my signature). I don't provide steps for iPad but if you already know how to use a master page on the iPad, then the only additional things you'd need to track down are how to insert a page number and how to open the section manager on iPad. And you can find out all about that in this help page: https://affinity.help/publisher2ipad/English.lproj/contents.xml?page=pages/Pages/numberingPages.html?title=Page headers and footers
Good luck

Apologies if this has been asked before. I've looked through the forum and haven't found the solution but please let me know if this has already been posted somewhere.
I am trying to create paragraph numbers in Affinity Publisher but am struggling to get the numbering how I want it. I am creating a document with sections (eg. 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc). The paragraph numbers in Section 1.0 need to be 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 etc. Then paragraphs in Section 2 are 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and so on.
I have managed to get Publisher to do either 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc or 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 but cannot for the life of me figure out how to format the numbers as above.
If anyone can help with this it would be very much appreciated!
This is a complicated thing to do. You can use the default styles as Komatös suggested or you can create your own.
I wrote instructions for how to do this in the Bullets and Numbering section of the free manual I wrote for Publisher. It's on page 92 of the current 2.3 edition, the link to it is in my signature below. If you create your own styles, I recommend reading the whole page and not jumping directly to "To create a multi-level (hierarchical) list". The trick with creating your own numbered paragraphs is to use the Context Bar buttons or menu commands to start the list rather than changing the list type from No List to 1, 2, 3 - this saves some steps and avoids confusion.

I don't think you selected that properly and I can see grey pixels below the checkerboard inside the selection rectangle of your screenshot.
I tried it in both Photo and Photoshop and got 1024x1024 in both.

The three lines of text in this test document are almost identical
- Has a trailing space with auto kerning of -70 between the period/space
- Does not have a trailing space
- Has a trailing space without kerning
Kerning only moves the second character (the space) to the left and has no effect on the position of the period. So why does the period fit with a kerned space (1) but not without a space (2) or un-kerned space (3)?

There are only a few things I really, really need from Affinity 2 before I can ditch the subscription to Adobe, which I'd love to do.
- Span columns is crucial
- Running titles (done!)
- Data merge (done!)
- I do use scripts to create hyperlink destinations; Affinity 2 might (?) be able to do that with find/replace. Not sure. I haven't really looked yet because without Span Columns, there's no point in looking.
All of my projects use span columns, because I have a lot of "sections" that need visual breaks between them, and inserting titles in separate frames may well be old-shcool, but since it's available in other packages with a click ...
I am curious: why is this hard? (honest question)
It's not that the feature is harder or easier than other features, there are just so many factors that go into deciding what features to add next that it's hard for any of us outside of Serif to know. Customer needs, marketing/competition, features that makes things easier (like this one) vs. features that allow something previously impossible (such as an import/export filter), developer availability, avoiding "touching" certain code until another feature is added or that code is rewritten, etc.
Serif has ticked off a lot of boxes so far with v2, including footnotes, cross-references, running headers, books, tagged PDFs and password-protected PDFs, and a number of import/export filters.

What I'm doing is compiling and still navigating as to what information should go where. As a temporary help I simply wanted to be able to click a link at the beginning of a document which would bring me to that anchor in the document. Thank you for your answer and link, I will be using it quite a bit! Have a great day!!
Navigating a long document in Publisher can be difficult. Sections aren't visible in the Pages panel so you can't jump to the start of a section very easily. If you work on a small screen you don't have the space to make the thumbnails large enough to differentiate, and if your pages all look the same it won't help anyway.
The Trick I use when working on a long document is to use placeholders I can find with Find and Replace. I just type ** before a key word and Find will highlight all of those. I generally only have half a dozen areas that I'm working on at once so that gives me an instant list of targets to navigate to. Since the Find and Replace panel shows the text that follows the search string, searching for ** will then show the key words I inserted the ** in front of. This makes navigation while editing a snap.

I tried linking PDF Files into my .afpub file.
Am I right that i only have 2 options.
I can either choose a absolute Path which only works exactly in that directory which is not what i'm looking for.The other way is to "include file on export" but then all the file would be in the same directory as the .afpub file which is also not perfect because of the file hierarchy and a overwhelming amount of files in the main directory.
Now as far as my research got me there is no way to link a pdf which stays in a subfolder and i can copy the whole folder wherever i want.
Is this correct?Linked resources are stored with absolute paths and there's no way to set it to use relative paths. However, if you put all of your linked resources in a single folder (with as many subfolders as you like, then you can move that folder anywhere. When you open the document Affinity will alert you to the missing files and ask if you want to re-link. It will open a dialog to let you find the first missing file - when you do that, it can find all of the others based on that single file, even if there are thousands of them.
So the best solution to saving your work is to create a project folder for the document and a resources folder inside of it. Then move the project folder, relink when prompted, and all will work fine.
Project 123 folder
- Project123.afpub
- Resources (or Images or whatever you want to call it)The Include File on Export feature is for creating a package for distribution and has nothing to do with all of this. You can find more information on it in the free manual I've shared in the forum - the link is in my signature.

Affinity doesn't have object styles, just presets which are confusingly called Styles, but someday when it gains that feature I assume that the pinning attributes would become part of the object style definition. The same goes for text frame attributes, picture frame attributes, etc.

The missing tooltip has been previously reported but it was long ago so it's good that you brought it up again.
The stroke/fill selector is mentioned on this page of the help system but it states only "To switch colours between the selectors: Click the double-headed arrow. The colours switch (but the active swatch selector remains the same.)" In the caption for the screenshot it states "Stroke/Fill colour selectors with colour 'none' swatch and 'swap' arrow".

But you can do them in a separate document in Publisher, just as you're doing them in a separate document in Designer. It can even have Artboards, if you need them, rather than Pages (which I presume you know, but I haven't looked at that section of your manual lately
).
I know, but I'm doing this one the old fashioned way. Ingrained workflows are a hard thing to change. I was probably the last person to stop using a ram disk. 🙂

Yeah it's a slightly insurmountable issue in that hitting the path itself has to add a node rather than contribute towards a double click to return to move tool, and in some instances with open curves there may not be a suitable hit area to achieve the revert to move tool while keeping the object selected with double click. We took a view as it's something that we've seen a number of requests for that despite this imperfection it was worth implementing, as in many workflows (obviously particularly when mostly dealing with filled objects) it does work very well / feels really efficient.
If you have to add the node then there really isn't another option. Thanks for the explanation.

So just do all the work in Publisher. The only thing you're missing is the Export Persona.
That's the way I started but these diagrams have a different grid than the book itself and I ended up with too many snapping things going on. And I want to use parts of a diagram on one page and parts on another page. It just makes more sense to draw complex diagrams in Designer.
IMO this feels an oversight because Designer has automatic ligatures and every amazing OpenType feature but not automatic quotes which is an entry-level feature.
I can see why AutoCorrect in general was left out of Designer, it's not intended for typing lot blocks of text, but if you were creating an album cover for "You can't hurry love" by The Supremes it would be nice if Designer would enter a typographic quote instead of a straight quote. The user shouldn't have to remember that Designer doesn't have this feature.

Interestingly if I use the Menu choice of Layer > Ungroup All it ungroups and does not crash.
That's great, thanks! I will temporarily swap my shortcuts for Ungroup and Ungroup All to prevent crashes.

The same issue occurs with Punctuation Space.
Hope this will be fixed in 2.4 as it is not in 2.3.1.
Oh you're right. I tested all of the spaces but I must have missed that one.

Because nice looking text is within the ambit of Designer and because some people have no need to buy Publisher.
You summed it up perfectly. Professional type requires typographic quotes, straight quotes are amateurish. Designer should set professional type.
12 minutes ago, loukash said:Why not simply temporarily switch via Edit in Publisher when typing, rather than cluttering ADe with more niche functions that are outside of its scope…?
Because I'm drawing thousands of tiny text frames and I can't switch to Publisher each time I type a few words into each frame, just in case I might type a straight quote.
It's just like the frequent requests for Find and Replace in Designer. If my Designer document has 1,000 tiny text objects and then I want to change the one with ABC to DEF, how am I supposed to find ABC? Switch to Publisher just to use Find?

In 2222, when I double click on the stroke with the Node Tool, it adds a new node rather than switching to the Move Tool. IOW, it acts just like a single click to add a node.
What am I missing?
If you hit the segment line (path) of the stroke (shown with the blue line), it will add a node but if you hit the green part of the stroke in this screenshot it will toggle tools. The problem of course is that not all paths have enough stroke area to differentiate the target.

I really wish that Designer had AutoCorrect for two reasons - automatic smart quotes and ordinals. I type a lot of place names in Designer and a surprising number have apostrophes, and I type a lot of ordinals. Designer is the only application I have used in decades that doesn't have automatic smart quotes and I never remember that I have to do it manually. I only find out when I later import the drawing into Publisher where Preflight flags them.
I don't really need the rest of AutoCorrect in Designer but I'd really like these two pieces of it.
Thanks

Hi @lotsdots and welcome to the forums. You just need to change the precision level. Go to the app's Settings, click User Interface, and change Millimetres from 0 to 1.

All three apps.
Here's a workaround for now. Drag all of the group's objects out of the group using the Layers panel. Then select and delete the group, it won't crash.

Still no fix for this on latest version.
I use Affinity for creating text based images - images of text with some design elements, but I find the permanently on view hidden characters a distraction.
I don't have publisher to defer to, so this needs sorting with a simple on off process.Hi and welcome to the forum.
Designer 1.x was not intended to show the symbols for special characters so you should never see them unless you're opening a file created with Publisher that had them turned on. If you don't have Publisher, did you download a Publisher file and open it at one time?
But regardless, this is changed in the latest version, in version 2. Designer now has the Text > Show Special Characters command. If you're still using 1.10 you will need to upgrade to version 2 to get this.

There are some glitches with this forum in Safari but the issues are out of Serif's hands as this forum uses the Invision forum platform. Serif can only report them to Invision.
I use Safari as my main browser and the issue you are reporting has happened to me only a couple of times. There is another glitch that happens to me a lot (deleting selected text doesn't always delete).

Page numbering. Publisher. iPad version.
in Affinity on iPad Questions
Posted
For master pages, you would open the Pages panel. This image from another Serif website shows the Pages pane open - the icon to open it is selected I the right list of icons.
To get to master pages, tap the < or > beside the word Pages in its title. That toggles between the view of your document's pages and your document's masters. Then just tap the master page you want to edit.
Then draw a frame on the master in the header or footer for the page number. Then you just have to insert the page number field. There are two ways to do that, you can use the Fields panel - tap the More (...) icon at the bottom of the right list of icons, tap Fields, and then double tap Page Number (under Document Sections). Or you can bring up the on-screen keyboard and tap the Insert icon (the one in its upper-right corner). That will display all the things you can insert, including the Page Number field. Tap the abc icon in the upper-left corner to go back to the normal keyboard and the keyboard icon in the bottom-right corner to hide the on-screen keyboard.
