I was confused with this problem for a long time and tried to find a solution to fix the cmd+Space bar switch.
Instead of simply using cmd+space bar, if you try to hold alt+cmd and then press the space bar, the IME switch will pop up right in the center of the screen. (Check if you already set this shortcut in your Mac. It was Mac's default setting) If the "Roma ji" is turned on, then the on-screen menu will also show the option.
Finally, I don't have to move my muse to the up-right corner to change input method. Hope that helps! Peace!
