  1. Yeah, I'm a big, BIG fan of Affinity, their buy-it-once model (and happy to do the bundle purchase); but, for years I put up with this 30-60 second launch delay. I read your explanation about providing a universal binary because of Mx and Intel chips; but, I also have to ask how Adobe and the others mentioned above do this and still have quicker startup times. When I use your Photo, Designer, and Publisher apps so frequently, but have to deal with the slow launch (almost every new day so I doubt Apple is updating YARA/etc. daily without my knowledge), I'm growing tired...very tired of this. PLEASE...huddle the team and focus on your customer's experience (aka UX). Come up with a solution!
  2. I too suffer from this 35-40 second bouncing start-up on macOS, all v1 and all v2 apps, for years. I was hoping v2 would have that fixed...much disappointed. It is the first launch as you say, after a restart or perhaps other long delay between launches. Affinity really needs to get this fixed. It has plagued this EXCELLENT Adobe killer suite for years, and while I know it sounds superficial, imagine a client walks up to your machine and you want to show them the latest project; but, you weren't prepared ahead of time! Modern macOS machines (late history Intel or any MX series since) have almost zero launch time for virtually any other app (except multi-platform java stuff). In this instance, you'd launch and then the client would be offered a coffee or tea while we wait for the app to launch! It's just getting old that Affinity (Serif) doesn't solve this problem!
  3. V2 of the suite has a Pattern Layer in Photo, but not in Designer. Strange. It's difficult to build a vector-based pattern for seamless tile pngs in Designer because of this. In Photo, no problem with bitmap images, brushes, etc. But in Designer ???
  4. APargh, I have been experimenting with Capture One (12, 20, 21) since losing Aperture on macOS (due to Apple's idiotic arguments) and my latest Capture One 21 did not read them either. I decided I'd upgrade CO one last time (now that they removed model-specific pricing). I can say Capture One 22 reads all three (3) RAW formats off my a7iv. Until Affinity Photo catches up, I'm relegated to using CO native edits.
  5. I can confirm what APargh is stating. I received my Sony A7iv today and started shooting in Uncompressed RAW to discover only Sony Edge imaging can open it. AP, Skylum products, Capture One 21, even Preview cannot handle the Uncompressed RAW. I tried Lossless Compressed RAW...same results. Only Compressed RAW files opened. APargh...I suppose we have to wait for software to catch up!
  6. 1st start: 13 seconds (better, not great) 2nd start: 6 seconds Maybe we should configure all Affinity apps to launch on start-up, kill them, and then they're be fast apps on macOS once again! but...let's try this tomorrow once the date changes.
  7. I read through all the posts, the tricks, etc. I just launched Publisher...42 seconds on this machine (see image). Publisher said 'we have an update' so I ran it. 1.10.4 is now installed. I restarted and it was available in ~ 3 seconds. Publisher was purchased from Serif. My Designer and Photo were purchased through Mac App Store. They both launch in about the 40-45 second range, just like the last Designer version from Serif directly. So, maybe there is hope that the next D/P updates on Mac App Store will have fixed this trust/JIT/etc issue. While the launch time is one issue, the trust issue is equally annoying as right clicking in the Finder on a file format that D or P can handle produces a list absent of D or P! THIS IS REALLY ANNOYING as I have to go and select "another app" each time to be able to launch the file in D or P. I'm hoping, no praying, this problem of trust (JIT, or whatever) gets fixed, and if the little guy (Serif) can't persuade the big guy (Apple) to fix the issue, then Serif on their own will change the JIT flag (whatever) code to eliminate the delay...find another way to implement the code feature that does not spark the YARA (??) check by macOS. For Heaven's sake...Affinity products were one of the earliest to embrace macOS technology in their field (photo and vector editing) as alternatives to other big guy (Adobe) lease-ware behavior. For now, let's restart the computer and see if Publisher 1.10.4 still opens in a few seconds. Cross your fingers!
  8. +1 vote from me. This seems like a very basic missing feature. MacDraw had it decades ago! Vector vs. raster...I don't know...but it seems Serif is NOT listening to the users of it's programs...thread started in 2014!
  9. I too am trying to embrace more use of Affinity Designer where I find the shortcomings of Trimble's Sketchup/Layout Pro on macOS so debilitating trying to make a simple 2D technical drawing. So, I said Affinity Designer must have that. Nope. I can't even scale a draw straight line to tell the document that line is 10'. I'd like to draw a second segment 45 degree from the first segment...can't figure that out either. It is 2020+ folks, theses basic CAD like features should not be absent is a technical drawing vector tool. Please get this into Design asap. Thank you. (Meanwhile, I'm off to make my task complete using something that is not Affinity software...sadly.)
  10. Thanks for this forum tutorial. I like the finished product although might I suggest an improvement (or alternative)? Sample some other color leaves for the placement after the first Affine 50%,50% action to hide the original edge borders. This would make it a bit less obvious. Of course, every original image we wish to make a seamless texture has it's challenges...usually light intensity is the most difficult to handle. I'm hoping something appears for Affinity Photo (actually in the product or third-party macro) that would behave much like the Map...Tile Seamless... in GIMP. Cheers!
  11. +1 for seamless tile creation! Deliver a macro with customizable features or implement as a command with inputs. Cheers!
  12. New document (picked Letter, landscape). Page appeared. Chose File...Spread setup... Chose Margins. Pressed 'pick from printer' which changed one of my margins. Pressed OK. NO CHANGE in the blue outline for the margin. Tried a second time. Same result. Quit. Restarted. New document (picked Letter, portrait). Went to File...Spread setup. Chose Margins again. Pressed 'pick from printer' which changed one of my margin values, just like before. Pressed OK. NO CHANGE. Went back into Spread setup and manually typed in a new value. Pressed OK. CHANGED! This method worked. Please check the 'pick from printer' function and write statement when OK is pressed immediately after.
  13. Yes, DAM please. Think, no copy, Apple Aperture! (Luminar apparently doesn't listen.)
  14. EXACTLY. All you have to do is copy Aperture. That for the first release would steal the market because just about everyone of us commenting here, loving Affinity Photo (and Designer), are still moaning over Apple's blatant disregard for its photographic professional customers. Organization of photographs is paramount, with editing in the same app just a pure bonus. Aperture with NIK, MacPhun, and other plug-ins ruled. Then when I needed something, I fired up that AWESOME, FANTASTIC search dialog in Aperture and ... BAM ... there were my assets. So, as 2017 comes to an end, and we've discussed this all year long, and since 2016, it's time to see a result.
  15. Me too. GIMP 2.8 for Mac knocks this out of the park. Sometimes you need to work extra to handle highlights and shadows (Duplicate image layer, then Blur...Gaussian Blur...20-40 is good, then Color...Invert, then Color...Desaturate, then apply as Overlay in Layers (and play with Opaqueness to desire), then Flatten, then make Seamless). However, 75% of the time, the Filter...Map...Make Seamless works miracles. It would be very nice if this level of filter automation appeared in Affinity Photo!
  16. Hopefully you test out this in Aperture. I used Affinity Photo (either at 1.4.3 or the version before) with success using Affinity photo as an editor. The problem is...when in Affinity, one does not know how to close the file and return it to Aperture. Choosing Quit or Close or Save all seem to pull up the standard Open/Save dialog and my default storage location...not the enclosed file structure of the Aperture Library file. Using El Capitan, Aperture, and Affinity Photo 1.4.3...the process is not broken. Back in Aperture I get a warning triangle inside a black frame saying file format not compatible. Something has changed either in El Capitan or Affinity Photo because, sadly, we know nothing is happening with Aperture. I need Aperture! I need Affinity Photo for my editor. Please help make it work again.
  17. Great. I for one love Affinity Photo (still learning how to handle personae) but I need Focus Stacking too for macro work.
