  1. Is there any word on pricing for V2, like will there be an upgrade pricing or because of the low price point will it just be full price for everyone, new or upgrading?
  2. Was just going to check Publisher to see if Preflight would work with it. I assumed it would. Works just as it does in Indesign, nice and simple.
  3. PDF support in general is bad at the moment with Affinity apps. In time I trust they will get there but it seems nothing is being done at the moment. Another reason I would say stay with Adobe for jobs that pay.
  4. Not sure why Affinity apps would not open when your OS is installed on an external drive. What happens when you try and load up any of the apps?
  5. it is a one time charge, no subscription! Of course when the next version comes out you will pay for that just as you would have with Adobe before they went the subscription model. Are you on Windows or Mac? If you purchased through the Windows app store or the Mac App store you can install on multiple computers using your login credentials. If you bought from the website not sure how many they allow you. If your computer crashes you can reload, you either log in to your account with the email you purchased it as, or you login to the app stores on Windows or Mac, again with the same email and you can reinstall.
  6. there are thousands of free fonts out there. A site you can use for downloading fonts is www.dafont.com If you are using a Mac you can use the FontBook app from Apple, it will already be in your application folder. If you are on Windows, well someone else will have to chime in there on how to install new fonts. Affinity will let you do a stroke around the font and do drop shadows.
  7. I wonder if there is some really complex stuff in the vector artwork in the PDF that it is processing. As all the Affinity apps are, they are generally very snappy and quick to load. There are many, many issues with Publisher and it handling PDF's. If your workflow needs you to be able to place PDF's in Publisher without changing anything I would stop using Publisher as it tries to make every PDF an editable file. It will not use embedded fonts in the PDF and you will have a huge mess on your hand as you go through the placed PDF and look for each error and begin fixing it. Publisher is not ready for pro work because of this "feature".
  8. This seems a bit crazy to me, you are designing in Photos and then exporting to open in Photoshop so someone else can work on it as well? The potential headaches that come with collaborative design is mind numbing. I would say stick with Photoshop for now if this is what everyone is using. Trying to keep consistency with out app that does things a certain way and has certain features and then editing and adjusting with a similar app, but different, with different features is not a good idea.... unless I am not understanding what is going on here.
  9. They know about the issue, it has been asked for many times. It is one of the big reasons I would not even attempt to use Publisher for anything I do with Indesign.
  10. Have not had any speed issues with any of the Affinity apps, they have always been snappy and quick. Can you give us more details on your computer specs? CPU, GPU and RAM?
  11. There is something wrong for his purposes and it worked before he said. No idea why it would say it is not supported and if it had never worked I would say Affinity is the issue but he is saying it worked before and stopped working now. So either something changed in the scanning software that does not jive well with Affinity or something broke in Affinity with an update.
  12. I tried dropping the file into Indesign as a test and it worked no problem. Dropping in Publisher have the same issue Davin had. I resaved the PDF in Acrobat DC and it dropped in Publisher fine with no issue some definitely something wonky when the scanner software is making the PDF. Would look at settings there and see if anything has changed.
  13. If you have Photoshop CS6 do you by chance have the rest of the CS6 creative suite? If so you could just use Acrobat Pro and make the changes or edits there. This issue or what they call a feature has been there since the beginning and has been asked for countless times by many people. I would not hold your breath for it or start working on projects where you need to import PDF's into Publisher with the hopes it will be corrected soon.
  14. +1. This is the best place to start. It is a scanned document so there is nothing in the PDF itself that is causing the issue as nothing is workable or editable in a scanned file. Could you have changed some settings in your scanner preferences? Does the file open in whatever PDF viewer you are using?
  15. Oh I see, looks like a glitch. As a printer that would not be a huge deal, looks like you have an 1/8th inch of bleed around and that is on the edge of the bleed. If they were that off when cutting then they have serious problems or are just negligent and you should be going elsewhere. The crop marks in the Cyan section look like they are there from a placed PDF that had crop marks that were set closer then the bleed settings you are using. If not I would say that is another glitch in Publisher.
  16. why is having the ability to include registration marks and other marks a design flaw? I do prefer Indesigns dialogue box, much simpler and laid out way better for getting what you want quickly. Now all those other marks I never use and I am in print, but I would rather have options for it then to not.
  17. Not sure where it is located on the website as I do everything through the Apple App store. I do think though that a "check for updates" would be there under the Help dropdown. It would bring you wherever you get your updates based on how you bought it, be it App Store, Windows Store or through the website. Adobe still does this even though all the updates are done through the CC app. One of those things that I think should be universal in all apps.
  18. when you go to export to PDF the dialogue box that pops up has a "more" button at the bottom. Click that. In there you will see an option to include printers marks. Select that and then uncheck everything you don't need. Just leave "include crop marks". This is how it is done in Publisher, I am assuming it will be the same in Designer.
  19. As you are running Catalina you will run into more problems as the OS only runs 64 bit applications. Photoshop CS6 should run as I believe that was the first 64 bit version, but previous versions will not run as they are 32bit. Still should not change files though. Have these files been backed up anywhere? Corruption can happen.
  20. Yikes! I have never seen a Windows Application installer do anything like that. Generally it is small package folder with what it needs. Can you make a new folder on your desktop and download to that? As for installing I agree with Walt, just let the installer do what it suggests.
  21. Is your document setup with bleeds? Could be on export to PNG you have bleeds included and because your image is stopping at the page edge you will be left with white on the outside for the bleed. There is a "more" button when you go to export to PNG, see if include bleed is selected there. Also see if your document setup has bleeds. It is the only way I can replicate your problem.
  22. Well glad you found a solution outside of Adobe then! I know I hate the subscription model that we have been forced into. I own Publisher, Designer and Photo because the price is insanely cheap and always looking for someone to push Adobe and bring about competition which is only good for us the end user. For me the majority of my work is done in Indesign and Publisher is just not there yet that I could even think about replacing Indesign with it. I have used Designer a little on a few files I have in production and Designer worked well and even simpler achieving some tasks. While I use and am knowledgable in Illustrator and Photoshop my strengths are with Indesign. I am in design and print, out of curiosity what field are you in?
  23. Anytime you save to a format like jpeg, png, gif, etc you are going to degrade the image. Some are better then others. It also depends on your settings, I have dealt with troublesome print files by converting into very high resolution jpegs. Still not razor sharp but no one will look that closely. Thankfully it is a rare that I ever resort to this. PDF is like a vector file, it holds onto the text and other vector images so they are razor sharp as you say.
  24. Why do you want Illustrator 10? That is almost 20 year old software. I doubt Affinity is going to support ancient software like that. I would just use the EPS (for export) option and try opening it with Illustrator 10 if that is what you are using.
  25. If you are exporting as a gif the text will no longer be vector which will result in pixelated text just as it would if you were saving a jpeg. Of course the level of pixelization there depends on the resolution you are saving as. What results do you get if you save as a PDF? Text looks razor sharp as it should in the latest version of Designer. Hard to tell from your screen shot of Designer what it looks like there.
