  1. Not sure this site is the place for that as it would be software not related to Affinity. I would expect most mosaic software has demos you can try. I would simply get a few and see how it works to get what you want. I remember using it in the past and it really was not the complicated. I selected the picture I wanted and then selected a folder that had all the images to be used to make that picture. After that it was simply waiting for the computer to process and put together. This varied in time based on number of pictures and complexity.
  2. There are apps that do that for you. Used to be some free ones. I had one called Mosaic that I think now costs money. Not something I would expect in Designer as it is a vector editing program. Nor would I expect it in Photos, this is a specific tool and there are options out there already for both desktop and mobile.
  3. It is just my preference, I would have no issue paying twice if I needed to run on 2 OS's. I would like for one purchase suits all. I would like a lot of things, not expecting any of them or have issue with it.
  4. This is where I think Affinity shines. It is a great offering for those who are not dependent on the software to make a living. Really good software for an even better price. Could I replace Adobe with it? No and I would not want to personally, I like the stability of a standard that everyone uses. If I was just doing posters from home and some graphical work as a small side business or to compliment my income I would go with Affinity for the price alone as like you said, not everyone makes enough money to warrant the cost of an Adobe CC license.
  5. the terribly high price is very subjective. I find the price incredibly affordable for software that I use and everyone else does making it a standard. The headaches of having the same software version or a real mix of people using Quark, Corel and Adobe is gone for the most part. The majority use Adobe CC and this saves so many headaches. If you make your living using the software the price per month is well within reason and I think a little cheaper then pre subscription if you bought the update every year. VM has come a long way, I used to use it and always boot out when done, now it just stays on all the time. They have done some amazing things. I use Parallels.
  6. Not sure why you think it would mean we would pay more. Other companies do this with no additional cost. Adobe is the example. They used to be separated like this but with CC they no longer have this. Price is actually cheaper if you were upgrading every year as well. As for performance with VM, I have been using VM for a long time and it has come a long way and I don't think I notice a difference when running our RIP in Windows and using Adobe on my Mac at the same time. Bump up the RAM, have an SSD drive and for most things I think you will not suffer much if at all. Obviously heavy process tasks benefit from the full power of your computer.
  7. I think it would be nice to have one license that works for both rather then needing to buy independently. That being said the price is a bargain at full price. If you are on a Mac you could buy the Windows version and run it in a VM of Windows on your Mac. This would be one license then running on 2 different OS's.
  8. I am not active in other software forums, but is this the norm with people suggesting how the business should operate and how they should do things? This is not isolated to this post but others. Seems everyone knows how Serif should work.
  9. How would this change how they operate? You would need a team monitoring and dealing with these people who would now feel more entitled because they have paid for votes. I think Affinity has their road map and probably have a good long term direction. The spaces they are in are not new, they are established fields for the people who use page layout, vector and photo editing. That whole setup just sounds like a world of headache and a crew of people to now stay on top of what is going on and then what if people keep voting or want something they have no interest in bringing out any time soon?. The 3 apps are incredibly feature rich at a ridiculously cheap price in my opinion and I hope they are able to maintain and continue on developing as they are.
  10. This is the route I would go. If this is a large book with a lot of formatting I would do the extra work and use word styles. They save so much time once setup if you want to make adjustments to size, font, whatever. You can change the style you want and everything else changes to match.
  11. I would use Affinity if working from home casually. Adobe is the standard and to work well with others I stick with Adobe CC. When I received packaged Indesign and Illustrator files I need to open and work with them not worrying about converting for Affinity. That reason alone keeps Affinity in the play around and test things only category for me. I am not interested in taking up the fight to try and change an industry standard, especially since I like Adobe and the whole ecosystem they have created.
  12. Are you printing them yourself or sending them to a print shop? If sending to a print shop do not worry about layout, just have the page in order 1 to whatever. Their imposition software will do what is needed, you trying to set for them to print only creates more headaches and takes more time.
  13. Yes and not rocket science to open a browser and see it displayed in full an an easy to read way. Not like this is a daily occurrence or a feature that will save you time or help you work better and accomplish more with the app.
  14. yeah you would think it would make more sense financially to buy a few *gasp* windows PC's or a few Mac Minis and some licenses of Affinity if it gets the job done.
  15. Why not start with a cover you like the design of and try and reproduce it from scratch. As you need to do something you will know or have a reference for what you are asking.
  16. already 2 large Linux threads as well as smaller ones for people who seem to miss them. I would suggest you go to one of the 2 big ones and post. And there is no prejudice, they are a free company can do as you like. The Linux community is not owed anything. It may be bad for Affinity or just fine for them. It is their call, they are in it to make money so they can continue to create software that people will want to use to in turn make more money.
  17. Most likely if you are sending to a printer that will fold and saddle stitch a book for you it will have this basic imposition in it so you would send single pages and select that option where it would do the rest. If you are sending your file to a print shop there is no need for you to impose.
  18. That is hardly an imposition that the OP was asking for. Now that was years ago hopefully a solution was found as there are plenty out there. If you are need imposition for offset and digital I recommend Imposition Studio Pro. It is PDF based and handles everything I throw at it.
  19. If your dev studio needs decent graphic software what are they doing now? If decent graphic software was needed I would think it would make more sense to buy the computer that works with the software needed not a computer for an OS that the software needed to do the job does not work on.
  20. I think it would be great if Affinity designed the UI for my Subaru Outback.
  21. There are very large discussions already going on regarding Linux I would simply say it is not a massive market to tap into. You may feel it is but it is very small in comparison.
  22. When I need more artboard space I just make the bleed really big. Indesign you can do a 6" bleed. Publisher is more open, I just setup with a 100" bleed box. This would increase your artboard space.
  23. There is probably too much to display in a limited sized window and if a large release would you really want to scroll and read through a small box like that?
  24. Not sure I understand why you would want this. I would think a newspaper would be similar in layout to a magazine spread as the binding is in the centre, just without the staple. If you are working in facing pages you see how it would look when printed and opened up. Am I missing something here?
