I really need separations preview to check the trapping and each color.
We use it to Flexographic arts, to separate each plate and make quality control for printing press, It is very neccesary
And we use it to "step and repeat" little candy packagings. We need AP respect the original Affinity Designer Spot colors asigned to the art.
We know the price is cheap, but just increase the price but make it a real alternative to Indesign, please.
Personally I would say Publisher is not ready for real production use. I would not replace Indesign with it at this point. Hopefully you still have your CC subscription or the CS6 version you were using before to continue doing what you need to do.

If After Effects is the best why do you want something else? Or are you like many others just wanting to do exactly what you can with Adobe just without paying for it?

This platform already exists. It is Snap or Flatpack. Therefore, there should now also be a version for Linux. There is a massive thread regarding this that was recently locked. You will find your answers, or lack of answers there.

This does not answer your question but why are you saving to EPS? If you are working in Designer and no one else is touching it to work on it in Illustrator why not leave it the native Designer file?

Add me to the list of people who have never heard of this before. I wonder what the odds are for having 3 or more in a stack. I can see 2 words, but it must get more and more rare with each addition to the stack.

For InDesign users is tempting = Designer.
How did Adobe come up with the name InDesign? Is there any context to what the program does, as in Illustrator and Photoshop?well you could say you are designing with Indesign. I do a lot of design work right in InDesign. I would agree the name is not really clear though on its function. I would hope no one bought software purely on the name hoping that it would do what they wanted.

Perhaps because of CS6 or older?
Ahh that would make sense. Version was not mentioned and I just assumed CC.

Others can help you with what you are trying to do, I am curious if you were trying to replace Indesign with Affinity? If so you should be looking at Affinity Publisher. Designer = Illustrator. Most of my work is done in Indesign and when I want to try something in Publisher I can generally muddle my way through it as it operates in a similar way for many things.
Why does Adobe not work on your M1?

Hi @muelli75,
Sorry to hear you're having trouble!
Depending on how the document has been exported, with over 3000 pages I am not entirely surprised at this export size, however it's certainly interesting that the InDesign PDF is so small.
Could you please provide a copy of the Affinity Publisher document to the below link for me, so I can look into this further for you?
https://www.dropbox.com/request/2qMbhdVR7EpYQ7qGEzg2
Once uploaded, please reply here to let me know - many thanks in advance!
I would be very surprised at the size with anything from Indesign unless it had some massive linked files. 3,000 records is not all that big. I have regular ones that around 10,000+ records. Merged PDF file is usually under 20mb. That is a far cry from 3.7 gigs. Again it is hard to compare without seeing the artwork but I am not sure I have ever had a merged file hit that size limit for postcards and things of that nature.
I checked another merged file I recently did, 18,000+ pages, large image, 8.5 x 11 and the file is 26 mb.
There must be something Adobe is doing differently to get these much more manageable files.

i had a quick look and corel offers one version for both windows and mac unless you buy the app store edition.
quark is also for both operating systems. seems like is is subscription based, but you can keep the version even if you cancel.
and adobe, couldn't find anything in my quick search but maybe it was like that, they're evil
yes, it is cheap. it is still very unusual and nobody gave me any recent(talking digital downloads) example where other companies did it like that.
except when it goes through a "middleman" = app store etc.serif develops both version so they can sell it to mac users or windows users. they can sell it to more people.
it doesn't get suddenly more work because somebody wants to use it on both, does it?
or more likely somebody wants to switch operating systems.
imagine buying all your software again just because you switch from mac to pc or the other way around...I stand corrected, I know it used to be the other way. I prefer this model as I am sure all consumers would.
My only gripe with Adobe's subscription model is that fact that you cannot keep older versions. After a year of subscription I should be able to keep the last version before latest and use indefinitely should I decide to cancel my subscription. Of course if they did this they would have people subscribe for a year then cancel and go a few years without so it would hurt that monthly income they having streaming in.
-
Lots of apps do not give you cross platform licenses. Adobe did not do it till they went with the subscription model. As far as I know Corel and Quark you buy for your OS and license is unique. That all being said buying the app 3 times is still cheaper then buying the other guys apps and if they work for you you are coming out ahead.

Well, not in version 1.x, and not even in v7.5.3 yet, for that matter.
So it took them what…? like 15 years or so to implement it?
Just sayin’…
Adobe has done all the ground work and is the standard. All you have to do is look at what they have done and add it or think of a better way of doing things to set you apart. Of course easier said then done, I am saying Affinity should be feature for feature with Adobe at this stage of the game but they do have an easy list of things to add when their team gets to them. They are doing amazing work as is and for the price it is very close to Adobe... yet so far away. Publisher is not a replacement to Indesign yet but it is a low priced piece of page layout software that I would probably look at implementing before switching back to Quark. Not up to date on Quarks features, I just know it always feels so old when I try out a demo to see if they are doing anything really amazing.

Wow, I have exactly the same issue between my MacBook Pro (Catalina) and iMac (Catalina). The laptop recognizes calibri, iMac doesn't?? Both fonts were pre-installed in the OS and both have worked for all other software I have ever used.
As R C-R has said Calibri a Microsoft font and does come with Microsoft Office if you have it, if you don't you won't have it by default on your iMac. You can probably find a copy online by doing some googling.

They have not. Support for none Latin-based languages are NOT on the list sadly...
I would not be holding my breath then and would switch back to Indesign to maintain sanity as well as an efficient workflow. You can always switch to Publisher when they have the features you need to work smoothly. Publisher is a great app, it just has some catching up and refinement to do.

Guys any news on RTL support? It is beginning to cause of a lot of issues for us especially with certain fonts which APUB seems to visually substitute with system Unicode fonts and make it hard to stick to APUB and reverting back to Adobe InDesign which is definitely what we don't want to do. We are in version 1.9 and sure by now with a fairly stable platform support for RTL should be on top of the list.
Not sure if they announce when they intend to bring updates like this out. I would check out the latest betas and see. But really I would stick with what works till Publisher can do what you need it to do, the headaches of work arounds can't be worth it.

I havn't read through the whole thread but this is my short story:
I bought the Affinity Trio when they came out a couple of years ago. The idea was to encourage them (financially) and to show them my support for the development of an alternative to the comparable Adobe Trio, fully knowing that the software couldn't replace the Adobe offering immediately.
At present, I still have to use Adobe Indesign software because some basic features, most notably for me, multipage spreads with different page dimensions and foot-notes are not implemented. I could use Designer and Photo with some pain to replace Photoshop and Illustrator but I definitely couldn't use Publisher to replace Indesign at the moment because publishing work is currently my main income source and every project almost needs one or the other feature not currently implemented in AffPub.
As much as I would like to DITCH ADOBE once and for all, at the time of my writing this rant, it is regrettably not possible.
I am a little disappointed. I was hoping that Affinity's goal was to build a suite that professional designers could actually use as an alternative to the Adobe offering and that within a couple of years or so that goal would be attained. But I guess I was wrong. Maybe it will take longer. As every one seems to suggest, it took Indesign to mature over 10 years or so... Maybe, but I cant wait that long. I would be more than willing to pay for big updates so that features that professional publishers really use could be implemented in a timely manner.
Greetings
I bought the 3 apps because of the price point and the first interesting alternatives to Adobe's big 3. I have no plans on switching over at this point in the game but if it could match feature for feature for what I need then it would be pretty amazing to get rid of a regular Adobe payment for multiple users and swap it out for one time purchases every few years when paid version updates come out.
I think expectations are far to high for Serif, I compared Adobe to Serif in another thread and the companies are vastly difference in size and capital. Over 22 thousand employees for Adobe less than 200 for Serif. Annual income around 13 million for Affinity and 13 billion for Adobe. I am sure if Serif had the resources of Adobe they would be catching up in leaps in bounds. The reality is they don't so they are not going to move and hit the things people want in the time frame wrongly expected. I think it is pretty amazing what they have done and the fact that they have not released a V2 but added numerous updates for FREE with some impressive add ons. Data merge is a big one and something I thought would definitely be held back for V2.

Right now when multiple files of the same name are placed, the Resource Manager shows them "collapsed" plus the count. I would like to see also the status. With an only once placed file you see the status OK immediately. Assumed that the multiple placed file is missing you have to expand the entry to see the status.
This is just a nice-to-have as Preflight (in APu) warns you that files are missing or the same for opening the document.
It does this on the Mac version of Publisher. Do you have the latest update?

This seems like a big feature for something that does not cost a whole lot. As others have mentioned you can remote in to a computer with various apps. I use one that lets me take control of computers from my iPad or iPhone. It is not perfect working off an iPhone but I can get through something if I need to. The app I use is called Splashtop Streamer.

They delete their official roadmap 😁
My 1st Affinity was 1.6 and at that time there was a roadmap for 1.X with Trace-Envelop-etc etc. 🤣
As an Indic language user I can assure you it will not come anytime soon (I wish Affinity prove me wrong). I asked it from 2010 maybe (Plus Applications). Now you have one option try Shreelipi nxt with their ANSI fonts and forget about Open-type feature.
I completely understand why they would remove their roadmap from public eyes. The expectations become high and they are viewed as promises.

This is not an answer. This is an abuse. Affinity is a text editing software and I have purchased it for that work only. And I am requesting for "Unicode font support". If you think , An editing software don't have support for Unicode fonts is a proper thing, I can assure, you don't know what Unicode fonts are. And you didn't get the term "Unicode" . font support is the basic future for any text editor. And as per your logic, I can ask too "If you don't want to support the Indian Unicode fonts , why the hell you selling it in India?" (But, I don't want to. I have respect for this software developer. This is the great one. Unfortunately I'm forced to wrote it for sack of your language used to answer. ) And finally, if requesting support for a font is sin, Then what for this forum ?
It is an answer just not the one you want to hear.
I am not saying anything for or against having unicode support for what you need. I am simply saying it is not there and has not been promised to you that it would be there. Now if Affinity had said this feature was coming by May 2021 and it was not here then I could see some disappointment as you may have purchased with that feature in mind and the promise of it soon. Affinity does not owe you or anyone anything in terms of features. They are in this to make money, as any business should be. They must navigate offering features the masses want while being realistic with their work load. They are not Adobe, they do not have billions in the bank and a massive work force.
In regards to your question about why they would sell in Indian? If my emails are anything to believe there are plenty of Indian companies working with the N. American market and wanting to do work for cheap. I do not use the services but get the spam emails regularly offering various graphical services.
Nothing wrong with asking for features to be added, it is welcomed on the forum. Your original post was not exactly a request but a demand for when it would be ready and how the software is a "waste" if not implemented. I am sure some of it is the language barrier and my perception of what you wrote and I could be way off base. I still stand by my reply that purchasing software without testing to make sure it works for your intended use is not a wise move and should always be done first. Affinity offers 30 day trials and sometimes even 90 trials, all fully functional. This is to help avoid this exact situation of purchasing and then finding out you can't do what you want with your purchase.

Affinity Designer includes support for Pantone metallics in its swatch collection.
Separately, not using metallics, I have been producing artwork for greetings cards and sending files to a specialist business and receiving hardcopy prints in one-off quantities, by paying a relatively small fee.
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/138654-artwork-for-greetings-cards/
If I want to get a hardcopy print of a design that uses metallic ink, does anyone know how that can be done, or is it enormous quantities only in practice?
William
Your price will most likely be high for a single print. Prices go down as volume goes up. For one card you may pay the same as if you were ordering 50. You do pay a premium for the metallics but there should be plenty of print shops who can do it for you rather simply. There are a few ways these are done digitally. Some printers actually print a metallic coated sheet, it lays white down and then prints on top of the white all the "normal" print and leaves the metallic showing through. Some have another colour station for metallic. Also is the method Alfred mentioned. Ultimately I think your best bet is connecting with local print shops, discuss your needs and find the one that works best for you. These are the people you should be talking to on how to setup your files to get what you want.
On 5/22/2021 at 12:23 PM, William Overington said:I am wondering if ink cartridges used for twelve ink print processes have any metallic ink cartridges such that one of the other colours, such as light light black, could be replaced by a metallic ink cartridge while a print is made.
William
a 12 ink printer is going to be a wide format printer and not something that would be used for printing anything in volume. I could see printing 1 and cutting by hand, but any more then that is just not economical. Those printers are generally 54" and up so again you would be paying a premium for a greeting card 1 up on a 54" wide sheet. Of course they could gang with another job, but that would be up to them and if they would charge you less for doing that. I am not sure of all the wide format printers on the market, but my Epson 9900 has 10 inks and none of them are metallic. I have Black, Light Black, Light Light Black, Magenta, Light Magenta, Cyan, Light Cyan, Yellow, Orange, Green. This offers a huge a spectrum that it can hit pushing the image quality far beyond anything a CMYK printer can do, but again at a cost.

Yes I can, but to be clear, since there is no way to check seps in AP at this point, it could be the program doing it, not the export, who knows, right?
My long term mission is to get out of Adobe net, and fighting through this.
File uploaded with embedded art. The
It has been a while since I have tested this but man they have made this overly complex for something that should be so simple.
Did you create in Publisher or are they placed PDF's from elsewhere? I see the text is 100 % K but when I export using all your settings save changing the ICC profile to SWOP 2, which matches your document settings. I get the text 100% K in Acrobat but it has 1% magenta. If I view in Indesign as separations it has a small percentage CMY.
This still baffles me why you can't simply export a PDF in CMYK that matches the CMYK settings you have in your file. This is not even a question people ask with Indesign, it just works simply. Why the Affinity suite is amazing value for the money this is one of the reasons I do not think it is ready to replace Adobe. I certainly am not rushing to get rid of Adobe, it works, does not give me headaches for simple things like this and it makes me money. It is also the standard in print, I have only had one customer bring in a PDF that was made with Designer and they are not designers, just someone who took advantage of a great app for a great price. I personally would save yourself the headaches and stick with Adobe for the moment till they resolve a lot of little things.

Import Mac files in the windows Photo app

What are you doing for your church? Honestly a lot of people use Photoshop for everything when really there are better ways to setup a flyer. If you are setting up bulletins or newsletters you might be better off with Publisher, especially if you do not need to be manipulating photos. It always baffles me when I see people setup flyers and things in Photoshop as it looks like a chaotic mess with the layers for everything.
Also for your info, file extensions are cross platform. So for example a Affinity Photo file will open on Mac or PC. The app itself needs to be made for the OS but the files do not.
