I just updated to 1.9.1.979. It won't allow me to open jpg files, just sits saying it's loading and freezes, but doesn't generate crash report. It only opened a jpg once, and when I was using the flood select tool, it froze. On all occasions, I had to go into task manager to shut it down as I received the attached error and it wouldn't allow me to shut down.
