Is there a way to just turn this spell checker off altogether ?

I'm not using AD2 to write articles for Substack !

It's bad enough that the only way to stop it adding red lines to words is to right click on each word individually but this software seems to completely ignore spelling errors (which aren't even spelling errors ) and then randomly putting red lines under the words out of nowhere - even on text that's been there for weeks and no red lines - all of a sudden it just plonks a red line under the text 🤦‍♂️

I use AD1 and there is a workaround - as Walt wrote you need to renew this setting each time you open AD, but this the mentioned workaround: you need to copy the word with into Pages - click "learn word" (I dont know if thats the correct translation as I use another language), then close and reopen AD and the correct spelling is there without the red line...that works fine for me, but I do mainly vector illustrations and dont use much text so I dont have to do this workaround often

I would urge anyone reading this thread not to panic about deleting their posts/attachments which will only serve to disrupt users' experience in the future

Remember, when you give in to fear, fear wins.

to be cautious does not mean to be fearful..-please don't belittle your fellow professional AD users and let us make our own decisions...ps: and a staff member laughing about this makes me think Serif does not in any way value customers...its not us customers who got hacked but Serif..

That would be disruptive to the discussions and make the forums less useful to forum members looking for information in the future, so as a forum user I hope you don't do that. :)

But you should be able to do it from https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/attachments/ by selecting the ones to delete.

Walt I know...and I thought about it...maybe it's not necessary at all as the files have been there for a longer time..and nothing bad happened...but I think I'd feel better with deleting at least some of them...

However, I found out it‘s good idea to run Affinity Photo next to Designer – even if you don‘t use it – because that way all the fonts, brushes and color palettes you have installed will be saved in a shared folder and you won‘t have to reinstall them after starting over with a fresh copy of AD. You just have to do some adjustments to your preferences and after you have done this for a couple of times you will get really fast at it 😂😵💫

I do also have AP...which preferences would I have to adjust? how do you do it?

The best idea is still not to store too much data within the apps, brushes, palettes etc yes, but designs should be stored externally in a folder you create.

sorry but this is too simple: every artist has his/her style...uses brushes, particular colours again and again....and not being able to save this within the app without filling up all space on a 512gb ipad is horrible...you spend more time getting this fixed than actually being able to create art...and the most horrible thing is not being able to save the palettes etc. before deleting and reinstalling the app - what you obviously are forced to do because the app takes up all storage...and neither Serif nor Apple feels responsible.... the circle closes.

Apples answer is the iCloud, it rewards them financially, so Apple have no real desire to fix or change the status quo.

I think that, too...thats one of the many reasons why I wont use icloud...but nevertheless its Serif's responsibilty to sell an app thats working properly...an app is a consumer product and consumers have the right for a working product...if this were an analogue product I would give it back or demand it to be repaired...why is it different with apps? but as I wrote before...I wont buy anymore Serif stuff until the most necessary things are fixed...not that Serif will care much about it, but nevertheless...

  7. sry for my delayed reply: I dont use icloud (and of course I do backups via itunes or imazing) and dont want to be forced to by one single app on my ipad taking up all space..

.I save my docs outside the Affinity Folder...

and deleting and reinstalling again and again is not an option any more as I lost amounts of important colour palettes...as I wrote before, they cant be saved before deleting the app..another unnerving and very unprofessional feature of AD ipad...

as Affinity and Apple dont feel responsible for this I give up, I dont have the time to fight against windmills like Don Quijote... I will stop recommending Affinity products to professional fellow artists and stop buying the products unless this problem (and many other problems like rulers, a light UI, etc) is solved...maybe developers should actually work with the apps over a long time and experience what many of us here experience with clients waiting, galleries pressing...maybe then user wishes would be taken more seriously

and as I wrote before: I bought the software from Affinity and not from Apple in good trust it will work properly...as everybody else in this forum...

This is a well documented issue here on the forums that is unfortunately  a bug with iOS as far as we can tell. We have reported this to Apple ourselves but as of yet it seems not much has been done to fix this. You can read more about this along with some work arounds that may free up the space for you in the below thread.

@callum txs for an answer...belated but an answer....I have read all the postings before and I have done everything (as I mentioned above) , deleted the app, reinstalled, resets etc....the storage is filled again in no time...I lost ALL my colour palettes each time I deleted AD and reinstalled it...because there is no way to save those end export...I dont want to seem rude but I bought the software from Serif and it is to simple an explanation to say its an apple problem...if that is going on for years there should be an approvement...but no: there are new versions sold with the same problem...this is almost a case for European customer services...I am an artist and surface designer and very often have to make changes to existing files and projects...it is absolutely time consuming and annoying to look through all my files because if I have some of  them open in Affinity my storage of 512GB is not enough for one! Affinity app...I own AP also...and desktop version but due to the apple pencil I do everything on my ipad...

of course I have done all of this...pls dont underestimate your fellow ad users...txs...as none of the other apps I use including adobe fresco, procreate, sketchbook causes troubles like this I still believe this is a Affinity problem...and again I ask for a proper solution for this from serif staff..txs

as its almost a month since my request I push it for Serif stuff to answer, explain and offer a solution...txs

    Moin,

  11. this concerns AD1: it takes all of the space on my ipad (even more than the storage capacity;-) see attachment...there are so many threads about this phenomen, could anyone of serif mods pls post a reasonable solution for this? this is getting ridiculous.--we bought a software and want it to work properly..txs ps: deleting and reinstalling and soft reset and and and and does not solve the problem on a long term...space fills up again in no time

as this only happens with Affinity Designer apps pls dont tell me its an ipad/apple problem...txs

  12. I still haven't purchased V2 yet because I'm not quite sure if it works well for my kind of use...but still consider purchasing V2...an important question: will add ons I purchased in the Affinity Store for AD V1 also work in V2? I hope very much so because I bought a font set (including small vector drawings)which is not longer available in the store...txs

  13. 11 hours ago, Dan C said:

Apologies for the delayed response - AD v2 on iPad doesn't currently have a 'document properties' specific dialog to show all the information regarding a file, though through different menu options you can display the file size, colour space & profile etc.

I'd recommend trying a free 30 day trial by downloading the app from the iPad App Store and selecting the trial option.

    I hope this helps :)

I appreciate your effort though I am afraid it is not exactly what I would need..txs anyway

    Hi @dmtp14

From what I’ve seen so far —  going to Text, Character, Language and setting the Spelling to the language one needs solves the spell check issue entirely. Also from what I’ve seen so far, the changes remain in place forever, which is simply awesome (if that’s what you mean with “sticking”). All the best!

that sounds great....but I often mix languages or use new words or names of places...I hope this works too?
