The problem lies in the target document. But why? 
→ When I create a new document from scratch, copy/paste works.
The shapes are extracted from a more extensive layout, that's why there are so many clipping paths and groups. I didn't want to change anything for demonstrative purposes. If you ungroup all the groups, for example, it works. Still, a simple copy-paste should never change the look.
I have had the problem more often, so I would like to understand what the reason is. Thank you!

Yes you are correct, it is just a small workflow improvement we have been asked for.
 
Yes this is definitely on our radar as required, but will not be in this update unfortunately.

Don't know if this helps  - but you can create an asset in vector, drag it into your assets and then drag / drop into a shape. This does convert it to bitmap (and realise ideally we would just accept it as a vector tile) but it's much more efficient than exporting as PNG first.

A number of improvements have been made to the crop tool based on customer feedback:
Crop to selection. If you have a pixel selection active the crop tool will now initiate to be a min fit around the selection you have. After a crop the current zoom level will be maintained (rather than automatically zooming to fit as previously). From various feedback this was considered preferable behaviour and leaving it to the user to choose if they want to zoom to fit after (cmd-0 or hitting zoom icon in the top toolbar of iPad). The Crop tool now remembers the last setting globally, so if you wish to apply the same ratio crop to a number of images it's much easier. You can now drag anywhere on the bounding box edges to resize the crop, rather than having to drag from a handle. Enter as well as Return will now commit a crop Escape will reset the current crop In unconstrained mode, holding Shift will constrain the current aspect ratio and Cmd (Ctrl on Windows) will resize around the centre When you rotate / use straighten feature in crop tool it will now automatically adjust crop box to fit. Please let us know what you think or if you spot any issues or have any feedback on this new behaviour.

Hi, I have found out that cmyk colour picker is still unusable... 
You're dealing with this issue for over a year.
How long will it take to fix it? I am willing to pay for V2 upgrade, but I won't if it's not fixed. C'mon, It's a DTP software, CMYK is important

I'm the developer of Typeface app for Mac — would love to integrate with the Affinity suite to get better support for font collections. Currently it's possible to drag and drop from Typeface to Affinity, but it would be nice to have your custom tags/sets in the font picker as well. Fingers crossed for a plugin system in v2, that would be amazing 

That's fine with me.  I pay for quality, and consider Affinity to be QUALITY.  (I want them around for a long time.)

Great Idea! I love that possibility to hide and also group slides in Apple's Keynote👍 So much better structured workflow if you dealing with many Pages/Chapters 👌

I haven't been using Publisher for a long time, and I've learned a lot through videos. I just finished a 204pg book, 5 x 7, everything looks great. I had to start over twice, had to tweak margins ... and almost a third time, due to some weird thing that happened when one page got pasted in the wrong place. By accident, I figured out how to move it (as cutting, deleting, etc, was deleting the entire chapter). But I digress.
I'm done, finished. It looks terrific.  I export as a PDF. It looks jaggy. I go back into the filer and everything is not 100% black. It's some 'almost" black. I had created it with CMYK since it will printed not online. Perhaps I didn't have to do that and the publishing company would fix it? But in any event, I found I had to manually change the headers/footers, the Headings, the body font, etc. to 100% black with the sliders. Thankfully, I was able to change the body text with an "all" but ... the "all" didn't include the other items I mentioned. Going forward, why was the content NOT 100% black as a default.
#2. This is the most serious issue as I do not want to have to try and change fonts or recreate this ENTIRE thing again. The "ffs" in any word that has a double ff ie bluff, off, offer, ANY word, the double ff is a square indicating missing elements. If I save as a PRINT PDF, they are there. However, that does me no good as that save is on 8 1/2 x 11 and isn't set to print as a book. So... here I am, the penultimate stage to "just simply" send to the client to review so I can "just simply" upload onto Ingramspark and I have flummoxed. What mystery step is alluding me? What setting? What do I need to do to fix this? I assume it is to be exported as PDF/1 ... I think I got the black handled... but this is a head scratcher. 
 

I would love to see a Separations Preview in Affinity Publisher.  I work for a commercial printer and need to see how the plates will separate, also being able to overprint is needed as well, I haven't seen how to enable that.

Yes. Affinity publisher would otherwise be an indesign killer... but alas it's not.
Especially poor show when you consider that pageplus would print colour separations no problem.
They've even left space for it in the print setup dialog. 
Why Serif would make their otherwise amazing program almost worthless to the printing industry by excluding this most basic feature I do not know...

So true. This is a big usability fail, when learned habits suddenly behave differently. I agree Serif should stick to the industry standard and not do its own thing where there has never been a problem.

Is there a way to bulk replace image files in a Publisher document?
I did the initial layout using linked jpegs. I now want to replace all the images with full rez tiffs.
Adobe InDesign allows all images to be selected and then relink them to another folder.
I've used the Resource Manager to replace single images. This requires you to choose the
image you want to replace the original with. I want to select 75 to 100 images — choose a folder — and let the software
do the rest.

And this is not only true in this case. There are plenty of situations where you need to make unnecessary clicks which slow down the work.
Yes, one of these is Swatches panel.

I can see logical reasoning for it to be in "paragraph", but it's definitely impractical for daily use. That would be like filing "toilet paper" in the "stationery cupboard" because it's paper, rather than keeping it in the bathroom. As with many such decisions, Affinity need only look at some other apps for guidance (or even a box of metal type, where you will also find your leading bars next to your letters...)

I am an expert *now former* Adobe InDesign user — although I love the application I have no desire for the Adobe malware and poor user support that comes with it — and a lecturer in graphic design at one of Europe‘s leading art academies, and I just switched to Affinity Publisher a week or so ago, and, honestly, I am loving this piece of software. Well done!

One of the features I would love to see integrated into Affinity Publisher — at least I have not found it yet if it is there — is a function/button called ‘Style Override Highlighter’ in the Paragraph Styles palette of InDesign: it shows/highlights which formatted text has overrides (e.g. Font Size, Tracking) in relation to the Text Style that it uses.

This would be a great addition to any typographer’s workflow, or at least those working with large bodies of text, as I do.

That's right. I'm sorry to say that is the current state of it. That is why we are asking for additional controls like thickness in this thread.

Yes I wish we had more underline control. In InDesign I would control the underline to make it thicker, transparent, and lower giving it a much more professional appearance. In Publisher, I'm stuck with the same color as the text (I think), just a thin line and wherever the font positions it.

Well, this bug is sooo annoying that I can't express... At least I hope it's a bug and not a feature. 😉
I've got let's say 5 different documents opened at the same time. They are opened in tabs. So, naturally, when I close the document/tab which is all the way to the right the next tab should be selected - that is the second tab from the right, originally. But no - the first one gets selected! And when I go and close the one on the right, the first one gets selected again!
Crazy behaviour let me tell you. This is as if I had 20 tabs opened in Safari or Finder and it would switch back to the very first tab after closing the rightmost one. Doesn't make sense.

Every time I want to do something straightforward, it doesn't work as expected, and I have to search the internet to find a solution.  I've been unable to quickly find a solution to Affinity's latest bizarre refusal to work logically.
Here's what I'm trying to do.  copy one layer into a mask layer.  I though it would just be a case of click the layer to copy, select all, copy (tried both ctrl c and copy flattened), then right click on the mask layer and choose 'edit mask', then paste..........Nope, doesn't like it...it's completely nonsensical.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
