... Nevermind. I discovered the Export Options are not global options but you have to define per slice.

    Grrrr.... Makes sense though.

I try to use Affinity, because there's so much to like...
But there's a few things like:
    - that keeps me using PhotoShop or Illustrator.
This isn't a user problem: it's a missing feature - (and probably a top 10 most important features) (at least for my workflow)
For example... I'm making something... and I don't know what size it is yet - because it's based on some other graphics or screenshots.
So, instead of just using the program: I end up just taking a screenshot instead, or opening up an Adobe product as my final steps.
This thread is pretty embarrassing to "Design" and "Thinking" in general...

@loukash - Thanks for those links - it looks like Crop is a hot button and there is awareness of it.

For trim, in Photoshop, there is a menu item where when selected it trims the canvas to fit your image (it uses the top left pixel color, or bottom right color as a basis). For me, this is super handy in managing images for the web where you trim, compress and save it off. You can do it all without touching the mouse. I may be an old dog and need to dive deeper into the use of artboards, but they seem like an additional canvas to define when you just want to quickly optimize an image.

@NotMyFault - That is a great trick using Quick Mask! Clever.... Proof that there is more than one way to skin a cat! Thanks!

I know this is no replacement for your request (which i fully second), as the example with the sun requiring a circle selection, and this lacking feature drove me nuts.
In the past, a switched to the alternative solution explained by @loukash - but for this special case the is a even better alternative using Quick Mask (poorly named, as it is more a "Quick Selection" than mask)
Use "quick mask" mode, by typing Q or hitting the symbol. Select brush tool, color white, and set your brush size and hardness to taste using ctl+alt+mouse left/right // up/down. Position the brush and maybe re-adjust This workflow gives you even more control (including hardness == feathering) especially for circle shaped masks.
For rectangular shapes, you can use the rectangular selection tool to limit where you paint the selection.

I'd argue a five step workflow is not really "smarter" than the single step of holding down the space bar.
This lack is greatly felt when attempting to use the circular marquee. Super frustrating to try and select an almost circular object to find you're off by just a few pixels and have to start over.

    Kudos on the great app.

This is a fairly basic ease of use suggestion...

When you are dragging a selection box/circle or dragging out a shape, it'd be splendid if holding down the spacebar would move the selection/object.

This makes it easy to get an exact selection... or enables you to size and position in one simple move saving a lot of futzing and keeping you in flow.

This interaction can be found while taking a native screenshot on your mac (shift+cmd+4+drag... + hold spacebar) or on all the other drawing apps made by the company named after dirt bricks.... and Affinity is better than dirt bricks' products.

    Hi Jan Gaare,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
We do have plans to add a tracing tool assuming we are able to get the output quality we are aiming for. Meanwhile there's quite a few utilities you can use (some of them quite good) to trace images. You can then open the result file in Affinity and work from there.

    Problem:
Like many on this board, I am a gradient aficionado. Maybe I'm just a man in transition, but many design sites dedicated to gradients only provide hex values for you to copy and paste. This proves to be a bit of a quagmire and requires some gymnastics with Affinity designer. You now need to do a screen capture, shrink it down and try to sample an edge. I don't have AF-Photo, so this may be an issue there too.
    Request:
It would be splendid if the color picker off the gradient menu and gradient map included an input to display and paste in a hex value. Below is the current menu and

dangerman2000 got a reaction from cretinaverti in Connectors, Magnetic lines, Bones, Flow Diagram Tools - Feature Request
    Hello -
This has been mentioned on a number of posts. I would like to formally and informally request the great AD developers to consider connectors, magnetic lines, whatever you want to call it.

As you know, the purpose of these lines is to support making flow diagrams and make moving objects with lines easier. Similar to visio, omni-graffle, and creately.com/   This would be a giant quiver in the AD toolbox for UX designers.

If it could be made flexible enough to apply to other objects besides lines, it could conceivably support the idea of "bones" ... which could be great for animations etc. This may be a different feature though.

If you support this idea, please consider liking it.

    Thanks!

As suggested in another post, here's a feature request.

In Export Persona, I can export slices to PNG, TIFF, etc.  But not SVG.  Could support for exporting slices to SVG be added?  This would be very useful for me!

    Thanks,

    Hi,

It would be nice to have a way in Designer to automatically crop whitespace (or transparent/empty space) from the borders of imported images, rather than having to do so manually. Not a high priority I guess, but GIMP does this very well and I have found it a time saver there.

    Keep up the good work!

dangerman2000 reacted to captain13chris in Make crop tool more "Photoshop-like"
    Hi,

I love AP, but the cropping still needs some work:

Whenever I crop an image, I come across the fact that the crop tool in Photoshop is somewhat better than the one in AffinityPhoto. I love the way one can see the whole image whenever clicking on the crop tool. I know that AP's crop tool is non-destructive and it would be great to be able to see the "cropped" part of an image.

Also, when straightening a photo (either by rotating or by using the "straighten" button and drawing a line), it would be very helpful, if AP resized the crop automatically, resulting in no blank space inside the crop. I think, Photoshop does it.

And again, it would be great, if the default mode for cropping was "original ratio". Or at least make AP remember that setting!

To sum up: Although I hate to compare AP to Photoshop, I think that cropping is an area that needs work and Photoshop shows, how it can and should be done!

    Cheers,
    Chris

Wow! Affinity Designer looks very good from the git-go. It's fast, well organized and pleasant to use. The text handling has some excellent features already. Scrolling through the font menu and watching selected text change live, quite a treat.

The main addition it needs for me to replace AI is arrowheads. I don't need a lot of useless style options such as Adobe offers, just filled triangles that have some adjustment options.

        •  placeable on beziers as well as straight lines
        •  auto scale to line thickness
        •  user adjustable scale acting on default size  (+% and -%, i.e.)
        •  user adjustable head angle (again, maybe relative to default)

And maybe, if not too much trouble:
        •  an option to have arrowhead extend line OR
have the line shorten to place the arrow tip at the end of the original segment.

    Thanks for listening,
    Byrne

[edit] P.S. Another discussion of arrowheads suggests ability to round corners. Not strictly necessary for me but nice. Acts on all three corners, maybe adjustable as a proportion of the arrowhead's size.

    Hi,
I'm new user of Affinity Designer
It seems to me that the rounded corners only exist for rectangle. Maybe it will be interesting to add this feature at the others forms like triangle, polygon, trapezoid...
As a designer I like to create smooth and rounded forms.

I've noticed that while drawing a selection with the marquee tool coming from PS I was expecting modifier keys to work, such as holding Space to move selection while drawing, holding Alt for center to bounds drawing. Also missing were cursor cues to the action, whereas the cursor never shows a plus sign if adding or minus if subtracting, x for intersection, etc. Are these features planned?

On a side note, the software as is is quite impressive, the native filetype crunched an 80mb PSD file to 17 while retaining quality. I mainly do comic book coloring with PS and most features are there, save perhaps a few like processing grayscale to bitmap for the line art, but it looks like I could migrate. The UI is snappy, we like it.

Yep. No Plus. No Minus. Also, you can't CENTER focus the marquee (start drawing from the center outwards) - only left-top to right-bottom. Remember to use the marquee manual tool to also draw straight lines - use the SHIFT key + click next point.
