danielclarkman reacted to madtho in 1bit / bitmap mode colour format?
I work in letterpress printing and screenprinting and use 1 bit mode every day. Please include this feature.
Reiterating what others have said:
Letterpress require a solid, no line screen image to make clean film for plates. We, too, scan calligraphy for invitations at 1200dpi for high resolution platemaking.
In PS I scan>convert to greyscale>play with levels, then Threshold>convert to bitmap. Then I colorize with spot (Pantone) colors in layout software.
I've been doing this for close to 20 years (yikes) and am happy to consult to bring this feature to Affinity.
thanks!

danielclarkman reacted to cadobir in Bitmap Mode
I work a lot with line art, particularly calligraphy. The work is based around the use of 2-bit color, also known as bitmap mode (in Photoshop). This is required for a range of specialty printing, engraving, embossing, etc. Printers in these specialties WILL NOT ACCEPT art in any other form, except occasionally vector art. Conversion from hand-calligraphy or drawing on paper to vector art is very complicated, and depends on an intermediary step of bitmap conversion. Please include a bitmap mode to your color modes. Thank you.
