Interestingly, though, a "zero-width non-breaking space" is not one of the spaces that Affinity allows you to insert. Edit: at least not by name via the menus. You can type a regular space, then use Alt+U to enable editing it to U+FEFF.
It separates two words (or two strings of any text, really) but does not allow them to split over lines.
I'm not sure it has much use, but there are other forms of non-breaking space, and other widths of breaking spaces, so someone must have a good use case for them

Based on its location at the beginning of the text, and assuming you did not enter it, it may be a BOM (byte order mark).
My guess is you placed this text from another source, not entered directly.
BOM has the same code as the old zero width non-breaking space (FEFF).
In some applications a BOM character is placed at the beginning of text to signal certain things.
So because it is at the beginning of your text my guess is you are bringing it in with the text.
Where is the text coming from?
Note: zero width non-breaking space is deprecated in Unicode; word joiner is now preferred.

w_yne_t_ylor got a reaction from PaulEC in Affinity Publisher - meaning of each special character indicator
Ooh thats interesting, and it worked! It converted the character into
U+FEFF Which I can now look up! Thanks so much for that tip, awesome!
It would still be good to have a simple lookup table for these from Serif though rather than having to convert them :0)

w_yne_t_ylor got a reaction from Rudolphus in Keyboard shortcuts for non-menu items
So we can add keyboard shortcuts for everything in menus but support is touchy out-with menus. For example, we can add a shortcut key for text styles, but not Publisher table formats (from what I can see).
Then there are buttons, for example the Unpin button on the pinning pane.
I do a lot of work importing existing documents and making sure that, for example, the pinning pane is always visible for the sake of a single button I use regularly is tiresome. I also use the Elgato Stream Deck which can be assigned to such keyboard shortcuts and it would be amazing to use that, but without keyboard shortcuts for these I can't find a way.
It would be AMAZING if the keyboard shortcut functionality could be extended to more areas (across all 3 apps), especially for those of us who find using a mouse difficult.

w_yne_t_ylor reacted to Artem M in View Bleed Area of Artboard
I like the way AD operates with artboards and find it useful and logical. But if you deals with printing you have to see what is in bleed area of ready layout. And once again the way it realized in document without artboard is perfect (you can clip to canvas with or without bleed) My feature request is to give an ability to those who deals with printing to see what is in bleed area (for example reacting on flag “Show Bleed” and clip with or without bleed) even in artboard mode because visual control of what you have there is very important in prepress.

Fair enough, and I fully support that request as well.
I'm only offering ways how to achive what you need now, because it could take years until Serif implements it, if at all…

w_yne_t_ylor reacted to thomaso in Delete row button missing on table format editor?
The missing button appears to be an odd lack of the UI.
• While the "Delete Column" button is visible, the "Delete Row" button shows its tooltip but appears only via tab-key / as highlighted border.
• It's icon is hidden, the button is not reacting.
• Both – button positions look faulty. (offset vertically)
• Actually the +/– buttons might be meant to appear together instead of – at top left and + at the bottom right of the preview area. (compare: +/– buttons at the bottom of "Cell Format")
• Also, different than expected, using the "Delete Column" button is a not undoable action.
Generally unexpected in the entire Edit Table Format window (and kind of useless, except to detect the occurrence above;):
The tab key highlights every interactive item, even those which can't get set via keyboard, as e.g. color wells, stroke width and lock/chain icon.

I did the same in windows (installing the beta 1.9.1.971) and the problem of text font size changes while make a group , disappeared.

w_yne_t_ylor got a reaction from Fabienne S. in Do not pre-name IDML import layer names?
Is there a reason that every layer is named IDML upon importing an IDML file? All groups, frames, images, everything is named IDML. This is time consuming to correct as I prefer to start with each layer having no name.
If there is no way to remove the name from all layers simultaneously and no way to import without these automatic names then I'd like to request one or both of these features 😀
