Hey folks, Today I did my monthly Super Duper! backup and after the backup finished I shutdown my MBP. I just started my MBP and opened Affinity Designer (Photo and Publisher) and they are all back to 30+ sec. start up time again. Strange.

Another update. Last evening I cold started Designer after booting up my MacBook Pro and for some reason both Designer and Photo both took 20-30 secs. to open. Nothing had changed on my system aside from installing a few new fonts. I rebooted several times and the slow app start persisted. I figured my fast app open free ride was over. BUT... this morning I started my MacBook Pro and alas all Affinity apps now open in 2 secs. I can not explain what is happening. Nothing at all chaged on my system from last evening and this morning but no the less all my Affinity apps again open very quickly. Very strange behaviour.

My fast open ride is over! Well tonight I opened Designer and it took at least 45 secs to open. Tried the render toggle, no change. Nothing has changed on my MacBook Pro except for adding a few fonts.

DEMinSoCAL, I have rebooted regularly during this period and have not had any slow app launches.

Just a quick update. I've been using all Affinity apps daily since May 16 when I turned on Metal instead of OpenGL and ALL apps continue to open in 2 secs.

I completely rebooted my MacBook Pro before relaunching the apps so nothing would be cached. And this afternoon was the first time I started my MacBook Pro since last evening the the app opening speed was still 2 sec.

Just to be clear. Before the app copy work around Designer and Photo took 25+ sec to open. After the app copy work around their opening time dropped to 15 sec. I purchased Designer and Photo from the app store. I purchased Publisher directly from Affinity and have never had an issue with it's opening time. After switching the display rendering to Metal I saw an immediate improvement in the opening times of Designer and Photo to 2 sec. I spoke to a developer who seems to think that the delay maybe caused by the app setting up the OpenGL rendering environment. I have the exact problem on my old Late 2012 iMac which I thought was related to it's age and configuration (i5/8GB ram). But I made the same Preference changes (Not App copy) to All apps individually, and the difference was noticeable. Before change/After change Designer: 35+/15 Photo: 25+/16 Publisher: 20/4 Hope this helps.

I "had" the same problem with my new M1 Max MacBook and I tried a couple of suggestions I found here in the Affinity forums and while one suggestion (copy app to Desktop, rename or delete original app, copy app back to Applications folder) cut the start up time almost in half, it still took quite a bit longer then Publisher which opens in 2 secs. So I was looking in the Preferences in Designer and I noticed that Display rendering was set to OpenGL so I changed it to Metal and restarted my MacBook Pro and Designer and Photo now open in 2 sec. just like Publisher. Hope this helps everyone!

I recently purchased a M1 Max 64MB and have been really disappointed with the opening speeds of Affinity apps. Designer and Photo take over 20 sec. while Publisher takes 2-3 sec. Designer and Photo were purchased on the App Store while Publisher was purchased from Affinity directly. All apps are version 1.10.5 It would be great to get an update on the status of the fix coming from Affinity or Apple which ever the case may be.

I recently purchased a new 16" MacBook Pro M1 MAX with 64GB on ram. When I initially started the Affinity apps they opened almost immediately, however I've noticed that in the last few day Designer and Photo take up to a minute to open while Publisher opens instantly. Is there some settings I'm missing or is this normal behaviour for Designer and Photo. I've verified I'm using the Universal version of the apps. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Slug area and make the artboard area usable to drop assets onto and be able to see and manipulate them. -
It would be great if Publisher could be used to create interactive ePub/PDF documents like what is done in this video. Specifically: Motion animations Show/Hide Timing Panel Motion Paths Events Button Triggers Adobe Indesign Help - Document Animation Given that the world is moving farther away from printed magazines, etc. having the ability to create fully interactive documents would be a very good feature set for Publisher. Sorry Tags is an old expression for styles. You'll need to create a style for the first line or paragraph of text that is under your No Break text. Ideally the first line should be empty, just a hard return. Then adjust the Below Paragraph spacing to force the text below the No Break text and even with the text in the left column. Regards, M@

My first Xerox Ventura GEM workstation in the mid 80's was comprised of a 80386 PC with a Wyse 700 monochrome monitor and a Xerox 4000 laser printer cost $35,000! Xerox allowed me to use the setup for a month as a trial because they really wanted to sell these setups. I did a demo of the system to the senior managers at the time and I showed them how fast I could import a 300 page budget document and format the entire document in a day. At that time our budget documents were printed on dot matrix printers the bound together in a huge book (11"x17"). I also showed them how I could import a pre-tagged document and drastically reduce the amount of time it would take to complete a document design. They were really impressed and so began my career as an computer-based graphic designer! Fun times! Ventura was unmatched in power and productivity for years. I used to laugh out loud at PageMaker and Quark users who would have to pay several hundred more dollars for their software and still not even come close to half the features of Ventura.

Thanks Peter! I agree. Span Columns doesn't seem to be a feature that would be that hard to implement given they're half way there with the No Break feature. Let me know if you have any issues or questions. Regards M@
