Thanks for your detailed explanation. Above is the exact reason for me changing it to None.

Where are the basic templates?
joe_l replied to Jeff Rudd's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Company politics for instance. When my boss bought the very first version of Indesign and "forced" me to work with it, I first thought he wanted to get rid of me, by torturing me with this software. -

Yes, you are correct.

Thx. So I guess, I can hide this "bug report"?

Is it to be expected, when I change the Spelling to None for a text frame, that nearly all typography options are lost? All other options on the Character panel of Language tab are set to Auto. As soon as I change to Cyrillic, Greek or Latin in the Typography script pulldown I get all the options back. Not what I would expect from the setting Auto.

OK, this is a bit freaky, coming from a lazy one who dislikes even blanks at the end of paragraphs. Imagine you have to work with long lists / tables of words no dictionary could possibly know, but you don't want the Spelling Mistakes to appear in the Preflight Panel. You can now mark every "wrong" word and ignore / learn it, which could be a tedious work with lots of spelling mistakes. The easy way: Just select the text frame or paragraphs and set Spelling to None in the Character panel. So all "wrong" words magically disappear from the Preflight panel. You can still set the hyphenation to your desired language or use this method within Text Styles. Drawback of course is, that there could be mistakes in your text.

This is a quick and "dirty" method to achieve a feathered border around an image. This method has its limitations, but it is very fast to get quite nice results. 1) Create a shape and drop it onto the preview icon of the image layer in the Layers panel. 2) The image has now the form of the shape. Now select the shape in the layers panel and add / activate Gaussian Blur from the Layer Effects icon in the Layers panel for this shape. 3) Use a radius of your choice. Voila! You can tweak the feather effect by adding a stroke for the shape. Vary the width here or use dashed lines (even with arrowheads). Have fun with your experiments!

Cant export spot colours to PDF's
joe_l replied to Jannes's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
To make a Layer appear in the hierarchy of layers in Acrobat you have to add a Layer e.g. from the "Add Layer" button of the Layers panel. In the export options make sure, that "Include Layers" is ticked. Why the spot colour is not shown as a spot colour in Acrobat is strange. Best would be to upload a sample Affinity document (not the PDF). -
Recent files taken from retail version?
joe_l replied to joe_l's topic in Other New Bugs and Issues in the Betas
Oh dear. I have to apologize. At some point I must have imported the contents of the retail version into the Beta without thinking about it too much (if there was thinking involved in any way). Everything is sorted now. Feel free to delete this irritating, embarrassing thread.- 12 replies

Recent files taken from retail version?
joe_l replied to joe_l's topic in Other New Bugs and Issues in the Betas
Personally I think, that this is a BAD idea. After your post I checked again and saw that assets are also shared. Does this mean beta and retail use the SAME data? Or copied data? So working on the beta can damage the assets or not? Not sharing anything between beta and retail has the benefit, that I can test the beta to its limits, without worrying to damage something. If data is really shared I have to think over, if I am taking a risk using the betas. Yes, I know. Backups are a must. Recovering backups during work take their time.- 12 replies

Why i do not have permission?
joe_l replied to anto's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
My mistake. I misread the thread and asked something. After second reading I noticed, that I wrote nonsense, so I hid my comment to avoid confusion. Which caused just more confusion. Sorry. -

Perhaps someone was hiding the answer, while anto was trying to access it. -

Nothing spectacular, something I noticed and surprised me. When I installed and opened the RC1 today, the recent file list was the one from the retail version. Same for AP and AD.

Something I am waiting for since the first release of APu. Perhaps in v3? -
Using Notepad it goes from 0 to 1 byte. It makes no difference for 1.10, 2.3 or 2.4, file size is 1,71 MB. EDIT: This is interesting. After a complete reset of AD 2.4, the file has 9,28 KB. EDIT 2: As soon as I copy Settings & Content from Release Apps the file size rises to 1,71 MB. empty-231b.afdesign

An empty RGB A4 document from scratch with nothing in it gives 1,71 MB. No complaints from my side. It is as it is. In the old days with my first 20 MB harddisk I would be worried, but not nowadays with TB SSDs.

a) Place the hop beneath the magnifier and put a copy of the hop into an ellipse and distort it with the Liquify Tool (when you have AP installed). Unfornately the magnification is rasterised. b) Place the hop beneath the magnifier and put a copy of the hop into an ellipse and simply scale it inside the ellipse. Still vector. I guess there are lot more clever solutions out there.

Export PDF With Bleed
joe_l replied to lynda Stevens's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If you scroll down a bit in the PDF export options, there is a checkbox called "Include bleed". You can use this only if your document has bleed, otherwise this option is greyed out. -
Maybe already reported, can't find it. 1. Create A3 document. 2. Print on A4 paper with Fit Type "Shrink to Printable". 3. Add "Include crop marks". Result: The preview indicates, that the crop marks are outside the paper and they are indeed not on the paper when printed. If something does not fit to a paper this will be normally shown with a red area. Printer was Color Laserjet M751. See attached image.
