  1. Hi my talented listmates, I don't have the opportunity to use Apub except infrequently so I haven't had time to master a lot. It seems like a great program but my FT job requires - wearing a plethora of hats that there just isn't the time I would like have but it's Englewood Charlotte Library MakerSpace handout - Englewood Charlotte Library Makerspace.pdfnot assigned. I'm trying, on the run, to create a trifold with one set of graphics on one side and a different set of graphics on the other side if the Trifold. I'm not even sure what Apub calls that technique? Is there any "quick" or "easier" way to accomplish this in A-Pub? Ex. Libre Writer offers templates so you can just dump content in that and have your file to print. Is there anything akin to that in A-Pub? I have the graphics created in MS Publisher and a .pdf of the other graphics. Is there any way to "import" the MS Publisher graphic onto one side of the trifold and then import the pdf on to the other side for the trifiold? I'm under so many deadlines so I'm trying my best to streamline this as much as can be. Thank you for your understanding and help.
  2. Hi there, Thank you for sharing that. What format is that file in? I couldn't open it in Irfanview. Here's some things I've found on Canva. I'd like to create those in Publisher, if possible? Thank you.
  3. Thanks all and for kindly sharing alll the helpful info and such terms as flourishes. I didn't know. I'm trying my best to find really good to cool looking "things" you place in a poster to bth fill empty space and to draw the eyes in. I used borders which create rectangle shapes which both fill in empty space and draw your eyes in. I don't know what other "tools of the trade" graphics designers use to accomplish this. I probably should try to find a poster designer Web site but Googling has become less rewarding over time. If anyone has found a really cool or interesting poster if you could please share that so we could get a better idea of at least "things" designers put in posters that kind would be so appreciated. Thank you again for your help.
  4. Hi All, Your comments are very appreciated. I'm looking at what graphic designs I could add as the audience will be familiar with what a Cricut and 3D printers are and some of the things you can create. Ex. I added borders to add some "jazz" to it. Again, not being a graphic designer I wanted to add other designs (don't know the descriptive terms) like curly-cues, or curved lines - other thing which fill in empty spaces... that sort of thing? Thank you.
  5. Hi All, Maybe this forum is a good place for this but I thought I'd ask as I've crated a basic graphic for a public library event via a poster. We're trying to communicate that we teach 3D printing and the Cricut machine both for free with free prints either one-on-one or small groups. I'm wondering how I can, as my mom would say, "doll it up" a bit? Besides the basic graphics what could I add that might give it other attractive features? I'm not a graphic designer so something like curved lines or other little graphic enhancement so it doesn't look so basic? If this is an inappropriate topic, would you please be so kind as to share a good forum one can post projects on and get constructive suggestions? Thank you.
  6. No, I can't view the .afdesign file - I have to save it to a flash drive and then open it on the work laptop which has A-Pub loaded. Sorry, didn't mean to confuse as I jump from one workstation to another.
  7. When I click on that attachment and it opens to a smaller viewer where I can see it. I have MS Paint on this laptop set as my default viewer. This laptop doesn't have a graphics card so I have A-Pub loaded on another laptop (work). Thank you.
  8. Yes, I see that file and can open it even in MS Paint to see the digital library file. I may have that file confused with a "library" of applications I thought could be loaded into A-Pub like you cna add a library of extensions into some browsers. Thank you.
  9. Hi R C-R, Thank you so much for that helpful explanation. I haven't used Affinity Photo yet, just a little of A-Pub. So, when I click on the paperclip icon preceding the file name that doesn't just download a file with the Cloud Library, Kanopy, etc. it downloads a whole software application for A-Pub and then installs that application to run wit A-Pub every time you open A-Pub? Thank you again.
  10. How does one access the digital_library file v_kyr mentioned?
  11. Hi RC-R, We have Affinity Publisher loaded on a desktop PC at the library. I'm not sure what the letters AP stand for that you mentioned to switch to Photo Personal? Thank you for your help. Since the OP mentioned doing this in APub, unless they have AP as well (so they can switch to its Photo Persona), they will not have access to the Flood Select Tool....
  12. Hi vkr, I wear a lot of hats at our public library (3D printing learning, fixing, teaching, creating running an marketing programs and other library tasks) I'm rarely assigned to working on A-Pub skills (even beginner) of Affinity Publisher. I'm usually at a different assigned desk each hour of the day multitasking through a variety of software programs. So, I apologize for such a basic question but once I get to that vector page (by simply loading the graphic image tgo A-Pub) if you could please possibly provide screen shots of the steps you take to then substitute a black background for white or how to substitute a black background for transparent that would be immensely helpful to me. It's fascinating to me how everyone has different methods which work for them. Thank you so much.
  13. Old Bruce and PixelPest... Thank you both so much.
  14. Hi All, I'm in emergency mode helping a ton of people with a plethora of questions on the run at a public library after Hurricane Ian. I need to change this .png from a black background to transparent so when we print 50 copies of it on flyer it doesn't consume a lot of ink. Is there an easy/quick way to to do that in A-Pub? Screenshots would be most appreciated. Thank you for your understanding and help. Charles.
  15. Hi Old Bruce, I so appreciate your posts and help. I don't have A-Pub on this laptop so I'll have to look tonight on another laptop but when I first open A-Pub how do I find the Text Styles panel? Thank you so much!
  16. Hi there, A-Pub seems like it offers a lot of features but as a newbie to graphic editing it would be so appreciated if skills sets could be taught with screenshots. I've taught a number of people at a library how to do 3D printing and they've learned best with screenshots with large and clear enough lettering so you can see on the screenshot exactly what you should see on screen. The YT videos have such tiny lettering on screen (watched on 42 inch TV screens with high resolution) and can barely male out what the characters or icons are on screen. Yes, it's more time consuming to produce a screenshot but for the newbie learner it's the next best teaching technique to sitting with a good instructor. Thank you.
  17. I opened an A-Pub creation created by a different person. I wanted to ascertain the font style and size the used. They created it in its own text box so I clicked on the text box but I don't see the font style/size listed anywhere. I clicked on the Document (tab) and there's a Font Manager which lists 5 different fonts. How can I best ascertain the font style/size used? I'm using A-Pub on Windows 10. Thank you.
  18. Hi Libre, Very cool. Thank you for your kind offer but I think I'll use another font style (just easier). How does one know if a font is variable? Do you teach Libre Office for Windows? I find I can do certain functions easier in Lbre Writer than Word.
  19. Hi Libre, Are you suggesting in the future I could open MS Publisher 365 (have) and somehow view the font style in some sort of static view? How does one reach the static view in MS Publisher 365. Thanks.
  20. There is no Dinot font style in MS Word or Publisher - the only 2 programs I would have had used. Thanks.
  21. Hi Mike... I hope this message finds you well. This one is totally on me. I created a graphic in MS Paint on the run but forgot to write down the style it was. I copied and pasted an image of it on the site what the font but they just wanted to sell me fonts. I then uploaded it to squirrel font but it found nothing. With your eagle eye, would you pls. take an educated guess at what font style the attached might be? Thank you!
  22. Mike... Thank you ever so much!! Great work and so appreciated!!
  23. Hi Mike, Thank you so much. That's very helpful. Is there any way to detect (reverse engineer) what the drop shadow settings are set to? You know how they do that in 3 seconds on TV crime drama shows! Thank you again for your kind help.
  24. Hi my esteemd listmates, Someone created the attached flyer in MS Publisher. I was wondering if there's any way in A-Pub to detect which font style and which text effects settings were applied? Is there any kind of a "properties" tab which might reveal this info? Thank you! 0 Flyer - Font Style - Text Effects.pub
