deepblue got a reaction from gsax in Remember settings when saving PDF files
Hello,
I created a document with several artboards in Affinity Designer 2.4.0.
If I now want to save an Affinity Designer document as a PDF, I can specify which page should be saved as a PDF file when exporting the PDF. Here I would like to always output all pages from the document. When exporting, I selected the entire document for the area. Now a PDF file with, for example, 6 documents is exported to me.
So far everything is working quite well. If I want to output all the pages as a PDF file a second time, I have to specify this each time. Why can't Affinity Designer remember the settings for a document?

The Vector Flood Fill tool was introduced in Affinity Designer 2.1. It is a cross between the Gradient Fill Tool and the Shape Builder tool. Today we’ll look at how to use this feature.

Playball has Positional Alternates which Affinity has set to On by default.
Other applications set these to Off by default for Latin script.
Which is why other applications do not have this problem.
In the Typography Panel find the Positional Alternates section and turn those Off.
Playball has Initial Forms (init), Final Forms (fina), and Isolated Forms (isol).

deepblue reacted to v_kyr in Protractors - Back to school
Let's go back to school, with some of those common and well known school protractors for measuring in degrees.
... etc.
The protractor assets shared here ...
... are all vector based and do have printed on degree scales. You have to adapt/size the default assets protractor sizes to your document needs and thus scale them up/down so they nearly match your doc measurements.
Note that all protractors are just a bunch of grouped/layered together vector parts (curves and text) thus they can be modified in colorings and the like. Also you should always move & size etc. a whole reused protractor group/layer when needed!
Here is the associated assets file:

deepblue reacted to BlueLiner in Vintage Vector Text Effect recreated in AD v2
The best way would be to sort of disassemble what I did. In Affinity Designer, write some text like "Vintage" and choose a font for it like I used, although it can create a nice effect on many fonts, and then apply the style to it. Next go to layers and the Vintage Layer and click on FX to open up the "Layer Effects" panel. Layer Effects is the secret sauce. Click on each item with a check box to see how the layer was modified by the effect. Take note that the "Scale with Object" box is checked. This is very important with styles as when text or objects get resized, the effect will not size properly if this is not checked and you may get poor looking results when you scale vectors.
A good challenge is when you seem some stylized text you like, say on a website or in an email your received, try and recreate it using the Layer Effects. Some things can't be done solely with layer effects but you would be surprised what you can do. Keep in mind styles retain fills and strokes too so you can do some cool stuff there too. Make sure your stokes are also set to scale with object.
Here are some examples of ones I have made.

deepblue reacted to Fantomas.CZ in APu 2.3.1 crashes after selecting a long text
Hi Affinity Team,
after repeating the same crash like three times, I recon it's time to share it with you. I'm working on M1 Mac mini with Sonoma 14.2.1 on it, Affinity Publisher 2.3.1.
Steps to reproduce the crash:
Open the file. Go to page 374. Select the Latin text (left column) from AD LAUDES to ... well, it varies. I wanted to copy the entire feast of Nativity, i.e. from AD LAUDES to a third Antiphon (Aña.) on page 378, but sometimes it crashes even before that. It crashes just by selecting the text, nothing else needs to be done. Once I was able to select the text and even copy & paste it, only to have the program crash on me doing the same with the Czech text in the right column.
Thanks for taking care for this, I think I don't need to tell you, how bloody annoying is to have the program repeatedly crash, reopen all the documents I need for my work, because - and this might be a good idea to fix too - it doesn't reopen all the bloody documents, so I need to bloody do it manually, although my settings say otherwise!

deepblue got a reaction from walt.farrell in Affinity Designer 2.3.1 always complains about missing fonts
Maybe for a document with 8 pages I would prefer to have the publisher straight away
should use. But you're always smarter afterwards.
I always assumed that the Affinity Designer had the same options (for word processing) as the publisher. I hadn't worked with the publisher yet. Always use the designer 90% of the time. But for simple text documents I'll fuss a little more with Publisher.

Thank you again for your great help and your patience with me

deepblue reacted to blackstone in DAS M62-PROJEKT

deepblue reacted to eluengo in Slow on first launch returns
I think is's not really a problem of the 3 AFF apps, but since the actualization to the last Sonoma version (14.3) in my M1 Mac, the ultraslow first launch that we used to have before M1 has returned: frequently more than 30 seconds after dock-click lasts to appear the AFF window. Its probably an OS problem, but it's annoying. It happens only on the first launch after computer (re)start, next launches are near instantaneous, as we used to.

deepblue reacted to Hangman in Remember settings when saving PDF files
That's exactly what I'm saying, in V1 this 'was' the default behaviour, in V2.3.1 and V2.4.0 the default behaviour is now the 'selected' Artboard and by 'selected I mean whichever Artboard has the Subtle highlight in the Layers Panel rather than being 'physically' selected... i.e., in this example, Artboard 3 denoted by the Subtle blue highlight Left vs actually being selected Right which still equates the last Artboard you did physically have selected...
So, if you select a different Artboard, e.g. Artboard 3 and then click a blank part of the Workspace or below all Layers in the Layers Panel, Artboard 3 will be the default selection in the PDF export window...
In V1, regardless of your last selected Artboard the default when exporting Artboards to PDF was always 'Ganzes Dokument'...

deepblue reacted to Bo Lovenhjelm in SVG - export bug
Hi,
There is a bug that I've been waiting for to be solved by the Affinity Team but as of yet - no luck.
I'm using the version 2.3.1 of the Affinity Suite for MacOS.
When implementing a svg-file exported from any of the software in the suite into a HTML document I want to be able to control the svg file with CSS - eg stroke widths, colors, fills and so on. With svg files exported from any of the software form Affinity Suite this is not possible. The only thing I can control with CSS is the size.
The only "solution" I've found as of yet is to open the svg file in Adobe Illustrator and export it again with the box "Presentation mode" ticked and only THEN I'm finally able to control the svg file as intended.
I've attached 2 files exported from both Affinity Pulbisher and Adobe Illustrator Also attached are screen shots with export settings from both softwares. Just to be clear, a svg file exported from affinity software works on a web page but is not controllable with CSS.
Please fix this bug asap as I don't want to be forced to keep Illustrator just to be able to produce svg files that can be controlled with CSS.

deepblue got a reaction from Sreng Pagna in There is no custom cursor when working on most tool in affinity photo 2.4
This has already been addressed several times in several posts here in the forum.
There are a few posts about it. But unfortunately that won't change.
I would also bind it better if it was displayed with "+" and "-".

deepblue reacted to thomaso in how do you create the red and blue Swoosh without the letters ?
Alternatively to @Aammppaa's hint with the Contour Tool which will maintain an equal distance, – below a result with a copy of the green compound which got its nested larger ellipse and also the entire group manually scaled with Move Tool and the bounding box handles.

deepblue reacted to GarryP in how do you create the red and blue Swoosh without the letters ?
Here’s a slightly different method:
Draw an Ellipse; Give it a Fill of None; Give it a small Stroke so you can see it more easily; Convert To Curves (not always necessary but can be useful); Duplicate it; Use the Contour Tool to create a duplicate which is a bit larger – this gives you the ‘gap’ between the ‘swooshes’; Bake its appearance (may not be necessary, try it and see if it is); Select the inside Ellipse (Curve); Set the Stroke Colour to Blue; Set Align Stroke to Inside; Set the Stroke Width to a larger value (you can change it later) Set the Pressure Curve as shown in the video (approx. values are (X,Y): 0,0; 1,0; 2,1; 4,0); Select the outside Ellipse (Curve); Set the Stroke Colour to Red; Set Align Stroke to Outside; Set the Stroke Width to a larger value (you can change it later) Set the Pressure Curve as shown in the video (approx. values are (X,Y): 0,0; 1.5,0; 2,1; 4,0); Select both curves; Rotate as necessary. (Some of the steps in the video are in the wrong order but I'm not going to record it again.)
You can now manipulate the Pressure Curves and Stroke Widths until you think the ‘swooshes’ look as you want them.
