  1. Possibly plugins could help you. For example the free G'MIC plugin has some 3D functions. But I'm not sure if it works on MAC. In Photo and Designer there are only the layer effects ("fx"). With the item "3D" of the layer effects you can give the objects on the layer a plastical look. But not really 3D.
  2. I'm not sure if I'm up to date, but the Internet Explorer at least didn't support SVG files for a verry long time, as far as I know. Anyway, the Internet Explorer is history now, but I don't know if MS Edge supports SVG. So you might be on the saver side with raster images.
  3. As I experienced - no matter what software you may use - the performance of the brushstroke generally slows down the bigger the brush and the smaller the spacing is. That is logical behaviour, because with bigger brushes and smaller spaces there must be computed much more pixels. So I'm afraid, for a better performance you will need a more powerful computer.
  4. Hi! I think, you checked out the checkbox "No Break" in the "Character" panel under "Positioning and Transform", to see what it does. Right? In that case, just uncheck it while the text is selected.
  5. Because linking will, of course, not work in a print project, your project will be screen related, and you would possibly find what you are searching for in an e-book-editor (like f.e. Calibre), office suite or another sort of software. If your project is meant for screen only, you do not need a fixed layout. It would rather be inconvenient for the users. On Linux, there are some programs that could possibly do what you are looking for. For no cost at all. You could even write your project in HTML, CSS and javascript. But that would, of course, be much more work.
  6. What about the Crop tool? Edit: Argh sorry, I see you are in Designer. You could try the Art Board Tool.
  7. You can simulate impasto by using the 3D layer effect. But that is not like painting impasto directly. I use ArtRage for such things. Verry cool with lots of brushes and functions (f.e. brushstrokes reacting on the canvas texture) and not really expensive. But it is only for painting, not for image editing.
  8. Take a look at the Character Panel. There is an option called Horizontal Scale. It should be set to 100% normally. If you scale an Artistic Text, you possibly warped it by dragging it on the edge, not the corner. In that case it would be warped to the direction you dragged it. But in that case, you can see the scaling in the Character Panel and correct it there.
  9. I suppose it may not work correctly because of the relative resolution. If the header is meant to be the letter head of your letter paper, you should choose 300 ppi/dpi (the standard resolution for printing) for your header. And of course you need the right measurements in Inch, cm, mm... also.
  10. You can add a TAB-Stopp by clicking on the Plus-Button right of the input field for the value or just by clicking on the place on the text ruler (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+T), where you want to place the TAB-Stopp. And you can move the TAB-Stopp with the mouse in the text ruler or with a value in the input field.
  11. As far as I know, GIF-animation is verry outdated, because of its limitations (f.e. max. 256 colours). Today you can do that better with PNG-Animations. SVG-Animations and even WebP-Animations, as far as I know. And for that, you should better use a software that offers a timeline (like f.e. Krita) and maybe an additional Video editing software (like f.e. VirtualDub, that is recomended for Krita, OpenShot or Kdenlive, to exemplify some free ones). And there are also programs out there specialized on animation, like f.e. Synfig Studio (also a free one for 2D vector animation. For GIF-Animations you could use GIMP, wich also offers an animation preview (but no timeline). Of course, I wouldn't oppose against animation functionality in PHOTO, but I wouldn't even oppose against if the devs would try to teach it to brew my coffee.
  12. Ah okay, I suppose you tested out the items of the "View" menu to look what they do and what they are, and you disabled "Show Context Toolbar" this way. That's a classical issue that happens to beginners. No big thing.
  13. Hi ADCO! I'm not sure if I understand what you mean, but did you check this?
  14. Could this problem have to do with scaling Artistic Text by dragging with the mouse? As far as I remember, this causes problems in some cases and is already reported as a bug. But I can't remember details at the moment. So I'm not really sure.
  15. I think you have to close the "Customize Tools" dialogue ("drag your favorite items into the toolbar"), to accomplish your customization, before you restart the program. As far as I understand, that is also what Walt says.
  16. Burgers never really give you what you need. Only bathing rings around your hips. 😄
  17. Hi Mandu! How the brush fades from the edge to inside is defined by the image you use as brushhead. It has to have a sharp black edge on the top and a gradient to transparent black (a transparent background is verry important) at the bottom (like in my attached quick and dirty created sample). If you have gradients in your brush, you will always have to fiddle a bit, because for a seamlesss stroke, the Distance must be set to less than 100%, so that the single heads overlap when they get painted. And you will need gradients on the left and right too. I made them with a soft brushhead and the eraser tool. For my sample, 25% distance work halfway satisfying.
  18. How the Color Studio panel looks like, you can easily choose in the Burger Menu (screenshot).
  19. Possibly one additional note may help you, @kat. If you click on the Burger Menu button on the top right of the Color panel, there you can find the entry "Wheel" and others to customize the Color panel for your needs. I just tell you for the case that you didn't know that. I don't believe that you need the sliders all the time.
  20. As I already posted here, Scribus offers the opportunity to connect folders with fonts to it, so that you can use fonts that are not installed on your system for layouting in Scribus. Unfortunately Scribus isn't a verry convenient software for the rest. I think it would be nice if Publisher would also offer this feature. It would be verry convenient to test out fonts without installing.
  21. You could use the free vector graphics software Inkscape for it. In most things, it is not as good as Affinity Designer, I think, but it has Autotracing (menu "Path" > "Trace Bitmap"). And that works pretty good. Be aware to download it from inkscape.org, because there are many fake websites on the net that spread malware (like audacity.de for example - the original site in this case is audacityteam.org). inkscape.org is the original site. You can usually control that by taking a look at the Wikipedia.
