Hello, i thing the "modular window view" means something different.
I have the impression that the modular mode has simply been dropped.
It was always been my favorite mode.

I had my hopes when I saw the announcement the other day for v2, but we are dissapointed yet again. It was the first thing I checked once I purchased it. While it doesnt change my buying decision, I will just never understand why they cant give us the option to have the export settings linked to the file instead of the last settings that were used. Even Canva.com realizes this is an important feature and the give you a checkbox to save the export settings in the export workflow.

I work with many other apps that save an exported file to the same folder as the source file. While I like the Affinity Suite, the fact that it doesn't do this drives me NUTS. I waste a lot of time trying to find the file exported and it has resulted in the wrong file having been uploaded for a book or sent to a customer. If other apps can save back to the source file's folder as a default on a Mac, I fail to see why Affinity can't do this.

It's been 6 years since the start of this topic. With the current slow pace of Affinity updates, there is little hope for a change.

Tudor - please don't try and promote a plastic sheet as a solution to a bucket with a hole.  Several people have also commented in response to your suggestion to the effect that this is treating the symptoms. Default folder X does a real-time SCREEN CAPTURE and RENDERS AN INTERFACE AROUND THAT WINDOW! - It is a hideous patch. - If you like it then fine, enjoy, but stop distracting from the root issue here.

In order to add its overlay to the existing native OSX finder window, it needs to do a realtime screen capture in order to render its clunky interface in the right location. It's far from ideal! and it is not a good solution to this problem.

Oh for a "Same as source" button - What about a new open source branch?

I was really really hoping the 1.9 update would address it. So disappointing.

Still an issue in 2021. And it's not just "Save As…", each file action is its own little island. So if I open a file, Save As…, find the original folder, then I'm ready to Export that file and I get to do it again because it assumes I want to Export to where I exported last time.
So, basically this is designed to work well with large series of images that all end up in the same places. But that's what Lightroom does for photos and Affinity is not particularly suited to that workflow. It's even more obvious when you consider Designer and Publisher. They're not factories, they're design apps.
It's engineer logic vs. designer logic again. Serif sits squarely in the engineer space.

I have asked them about it on their Facebook Group - Commenting on their posts is the only way to do it:
    https://www.facebook.com/affinitybyserif
    and on their twitter:

If we keep asking about it then they might move it up their to-do list?

I also can’t understand why this little thing has not implemented yet. The current weird behavior causes so much loss of productivity in everyday work. :-(

There I was with Affinity 1.10... Hoping...
From within my own little organised folder structures. I open a simple jpg in affinity...
..."save as" and "export" completely ignores the source path for that simple little jpg - as if it is completely unimportant.
If Affinity made a car, it would be a fantastic drive, efficient.... economic...
....but you'd have to clamber in and out through the boot every time.
    *Sigh*

I really like Affinity but I'm losing so much time with this wired SAVE AS, I've to go back to Adobe! What a shame
