I don't have a painting category in brushes panel

Thanks for the explanation. I have tried that but still isn't working. When they say "Send this merged shape to back" do they mean click the button Move to the back? I tried that but isn't working. I have attached my most recent file to this post. create-isometric-character.afdesign

im stuck on on part 2 where it says: Fill this new path the same as the Ellipse, select both and using the Add function merge them into one.
