If you just want to highlight certain areas you could darken their surrounding. This could easily + flexible be done with vector objects combined to a Compound Group where the spots (ellipses) are subtracted from their common rectangle and the entire group gets the wanted colour (e.g. gray), transparency and blend mode applied (e.g. multiply). For instance:

If wanted you could additionally apply a blurring layer effect to the ellipse layers.

That's really helpful @thomaso thank you once again!

  2. Hi

I am using Photo V2 and would love to find a way to bring to the "forefront" three different players in a football team photo. My story is about these individuals so I would like to enhance their faces and/or maybe to slightly dull the remainder of the picture.

Is anyone aware of an idea, or could there even be a support video that will show me such a technique? (I have looked but don't really know how my request can be explained in a short phrase!

I visualise the enhancement being in the shape of a circle or an oval shape/

    Thanks

  3. Good evening to anyone who can help me!

I am really struggling to understand why my pc is continually crashing when using Publisher V2.1.1

It seemed to be happening whenever I used the down arrow key, but all sorts of keystrokes seem to now be triggering a crash. Today I experienced it 4 times in 20 minutes.

I'm not very technical I'm afraid, hence why I am asking for any help that can be given!

    Thank you in advance

  4. Hi All you clever people, I'm afraid I have caused a problem for myself.

My V2 Publisher file, which should have considerably more text in it than is currently showing, has "developed" a backwards text-flow link and a lot of the text has seemingly disappeared.

It seems to have happened when I tried removing a "rogue" backwards text frame link (which has also instantly re-appeared but the text hasn't!)
Hopefully from the below image you can see what I mean?

I am suspicious of the additional "tram-lines" running down the outside of the right hand page, along with the problematic arrow which seems to have decided that the text should flow from the right hand page back to the left hand page. This is the only page out of 232 that has the "outer" tram lines, which I note that the red arrow has connected itself to.

(I am not saying this in an "accusing" way towards the software, just trying to apportion blame away from myself being the muppet that has done something wrong!)

My text started on the right hand page underneath the CHAPTER 01 heading, but I have moved the text that was remaining out of the way so that the arrows are clearer for you to see!

Hope this is enough information to go on?

Also I can't seem to find how to turn on "codes" like in Word, which I have seen in some support pages.

    Thank in advance

  5. Hi Mike, sorry to be so sluggish in responding after your kind advice. I have eventually sussed how to use the Picture Frame Rectangular tool (filled with an image) and having eventually spotted that the pinning settings were pushing it off the page I am now fractionally more comfortable and can work forwards in trying to include as many relevant images as I can muster!

Very grateful once again for your help.

  6. Hi Mike

I seem to be experiencing a similar problem in a multi-page book, whereby whenever I try to pin an image to part of the text.

The image has been placed using the place tool, underneath the relevant piece of text it relates to. Then when trying to pin (float to text) the image disappears.

I have looked at videos whereby the image is placed into rectangular picture frame tool, but using this process the image still disappears when trying to pin.

If I create a completely fresh file, and place random text in and try to pin a floating image, whether in a picture frame or not, it works fine.

I am using Affinity Pulisher 2, and the software is on the curent update/version, so I am scratching my head somewhat!

Sorry to target you by joining in on this post, but I've not found anything else in the forums about images disappearing when trying to pin to text.

    Fingers crossed :)

  7. Hi

I am trying to write a history book about my local football team and am struggling to get to grips with Pinning.

My objective is to have a two page spread of statistical tables at the end of each season (chapter) but I need to pin the tables (or images) to the final piece of text, but still force the tables/images onto the next two page spread. The text will be added to as I go along, which probably makes it a back to front way of doing it.

Could the text be pinned to an anchor placed on the relevant 2-page spread?

Is anyone aware of how I might achieve this please?

    TIA

  8. Hi

I am in the middle of a long term book-writing project about my local football club's history, and need someone to help educate me (via Zoom or similar) how to do some fairly basic things. Having entered a fair amount of the text, I am now struggling to get to grips with aspects such as

    • Text flow
    • Inserting and manipulating images
    • Sections
    • Table of Contents
    • Inserting charts
    • Page anchors
    • Indexing

I have tried various online tutorials but to be honest I struggle to learn from them.

It would ideally need to be someone who has an interest in football please so that it is not too painful an experience!

I am not exactly a software novice, but need some guidance having got a bit stuck!

Hoping this sort of post is permitted, and that someone is interested enough to help.

    Thank you

  9. Thank you trichens so much for pointing me in the right direction.

I've not really got used to layers yet, but with you having prompted me to look, I spotted that the pic was pinned. Wondering whether that was the problem, I unpinned it, and was then able to group them. That was causing me quite a bit of concern, I can now make good progress.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend (I now will!)
