  1. We just got Publisher the other day and we think it's what we want, but one thing we really want to be able to do is bring our Studio Presets over from Designer & Photo. Using StudioLink seems perfect, but they carry over none of our presets, despite it apparently using the actual Designer & Photo apps. (Or does it just require them.) We see you can Load a preset, but how do we get them out of Designer & Photo so we can bring them into Publisher. We found the threat about where to find the preset files for those two apps, but how can we get them into Publisher's StudioLink of Designer & Photo? All of our panels are messed up! Thanks. EDIT: Created a bogus preset in Publisher-Designer so we could locate where they're placed. We then copied the preset files from Designer-Actual into that library folder, but Publisher-Designer doesn't appear to see them. Doing this on macOS Big Slur.
  2. We simply marked up PDFs using a red marker, but then it got to be a pain, have to continually clean our iPads. Then we discovered Apple Pencils.
  3. Walt Farrell in the above feature request thread points out Preflight User Comments, which gets a lot closer to what we're looking for because it can be attached to any object, shows up in the Preflight Panel, and doesn't get printed or exported. (We switched User Comments from red to yellow, so it won't stop it from printing. Now if they were only searchable, but….)
  4. Funny, I haven't heard or thought of the term "preflight" meaning preparing to send off to print since I was in biotech and using QuirkExpensive on Mac System 9. Most recently, it meant getting the helo ready for take off and testing, and all of the protein names became acronyms for weapons and tactical systems. Thanks for the memories, Walt.
  5. Not perfect, but a whole heck of a lot closer to perfect. Thanks a lot!
  6. Okay, figured out the issue, which makes the pinned text to the side a non-starter. We have a tier of four panels (this is all done in Designer) and the inking and text bubbles are subs of their respective panels so that lines don't extend beyond the edges of the panel. Pinning makes the note a sub of text in one of those panels, because you can't attach it to the panel itself (a rectangle shape), and as soon as the comment is moved outside the area of the panel, it disappears. So much for that. Workarounds. \o/
  7. Also, the ability to attach note to things other than text. The current workaround is to pin a text frame to text, but would like ability to attach a note to other objects, like an image that needs to be corrected. Also, pinned text boxes disappear if they sub to a text box that is subbed (a child of) some larger object when it's moved off to the side.
  8. Well, I watched the video and tried it, but as soon as I pin the text box, all of the text and background color disappear. I'm trying to figure out what I've done wrong, but if you have any help, it would be very much appreciated. The pinned text box became a sub of the text it pinned to. I'll load a video as soon as I can to hopefully better explain.
  9. I need to look into this. Sorry, we just got Publisher yesterday, so we're trying to come up to speed as quickly as possible because we have to actually get our actual work done. Thanks for the help.
  10. Thanks. I found the video about pinning and hopefully I can create an asset that serves as a sticky note.
  11. No, more as in comments/notes/reminders to fix things over a multi-page document, each with multiple inked comic panels and text. Something that can be searched quickly, doesn't appear or print. Though I'll look into the metadata. Maybe there's something there.
  12. Okay, just found something new. This is a non-reality case, but it seems to point to a race condition I might be running into. Two-finger glove, Apple Pencil in same hand, using vector brush. If I put two fingers down as though to rotate or zoom, and also let the pencil tip touch the screen, the UI appears for a moment until I lift my hand off again. (No palm resting at any time.) Sometimes the UI stays. The Color Picker appears at the tip of my pencil, then disappears, so I'm guessing there's some color picker functionality there? Any way to turn that off currently, as I never use the color picker? (Only color I get to use is black.) Now, in reality, i never let the pencil tip touch like that, but I move quickly, inking. I wonder if I just happen to slip into some timing buffer or in between two running tasks. You know, like they do in Inception, but without the guns or exploding Paris. Also, I have Touch for Gestures Only turned on, if that makes any difference. And if the UI shows up, the two-finger tap to Undo doesn't register. Two-Finger One-Pencil UI Appearance.mp4
  13. This is about impossible to search, so forgive me if this is already addressed somewhere else. With AP, is there the ability to add a note/comment/annotation to a document (one of those terms). That is, mark up a document with something that doesn't actually get outputted (?) or printed without having to work around it all by using regular text boxes that then need to then be specially handled. Sticky note like thing. Thanks.
  14. Well, now that I know about these setting and what they do, they'll be easy enough to manage. Now I can get onto working full steam ahead. Thanks. Is it possible that the other issue I'm having, where the UI keeps reappearing on AD for iPad when I zoom or rotate, is related to some setting I don't know I should care about?
  15. Okay, I figured out what's happening. I'm getting ahead of AD generating the Candidate List, a snapping setting I never changed, so I'm guessing is default. I copy a panel from a four-panel tier to paste into a new document from a template that has only one very large panel which I use for inking. Select panel, copy, create new from template, paste. I'm trying to snap the smaller panel I copied to the top-left corner of the larger panel outline in the template, so I can then resize it to the larger size. It appears that if I grab the item I'm trying to snap too quickly and start moving it, AD doesn't have the snapping candidates set up yet, and won't until I release the item again, or pause my moving the item long enough to see the flash of the purple line, at which point the item will snap. If I keep moving, it'll never set up the snapping candidate. If I paste the object into the document and don't touch it for a moment, AD gets the snapping candidates set up and it snaps as expected. My zooming in & out does the same thing, causes me to release the item and pause, giving AD time to set up candidates. I have hundreds of these panels I'm going through and I'm working quickly. Apparently quickly enough that I get the item moving before snapping is set up over dozens of times I've done this action. But now I figured out that if I change my snapping setting from Candidate List to Immediate Layer, it works as expected. Personally, I would be more grateful – ecstatic even – if ya'll got the Deselect & Delete keyboard shortcuts working on the iPad version of AD, because that drives me nuts hundreds of times a day. Anyway, a short movie… Non-Snapping_Problem.mov
  16. I got a discounted iPad Air 3 myself because I already had a Gen 1 Apple Pencil for my iPad Mini, so I saved myself the extra cost. AD works just fine on it for me. In terms of stands, I've been through a few and find most either 1) place the bottom edge too close to the table surface, or 2) have too tall of an edge along the bottom that starts cutting across the side of my hand. I use a two-finger glove like the type you find on Amazon along with the leg part of an old sock which I cut and folded over and stitched to wear around my wrist because I wear a medical ID bracelet that I don't want to scratch whatever screen I'm working on. What I ended up with is an old laptop stand that puts the iPad up off the tabletop, meaning I don't have to slouch, and has a very shallow bottom edge. This, I attached to a bar stool which lets me wrap my legs around the thing and really get over the drawing surface, causing less back & neck pain than when I try the same on a desk where I can't get my chair close enough. I ink about 15-20 panels a day this way. In terms of drawability, after more than a month of testing, I found that Procreate feels more natural when using raster/pixel. The lines from the #4 pencil just look more natural than either Affinity Designer in pixel mode or Affinity Photo. But I have since switched to drawing/inking using vector brushes and with that I use Designer, because I haven't been able to find any other app that does so much, has all of the features I need, and doesn't require a subscription. And between using a drawing tablet with a built-in display versus using AD on the iPad, I use the iPad pretty exclusively now because of the ability to rotate and zoom with my fingers. (The drawing tablet drives me nuts now when I try using it.) And two-finger tap to Undo. (Though three-finger tap to Redo is near impossible because I have the two-finger glove and hold a pencil.) My other hand is on a bluetooth numeric keyboard which I've set for the most common actions I use. Really wish Serif would fix the usability issues with their apps, though. Can't delete with delete key, Deselect key command still doesn't work which causes me all kinds of issues, and keyboard shortcuts missing for such obvious things as increase/decrease bush size, undo/redo, etc. Best money you could spend now is to get a paper-like matte finish for the iPad. (Doesn't necessarily have to be the Paper-like brand.) You'll wear down pencil tips a bit faster, but it is much, much better to draw on.
  17. Bruce, I've had that issue, but in this case, I simple have a document with a rectangle and copy in another rectangle from a different document. I want to size them the same, so I try to snap it to the top left corner but it won't snap at all. Not even make the attempt. Zoom in & out, and suddenly it snaps as expected. It happens every time, so this is definitely some sort of state bug.
  18. AD 1.9.2 - When I create a new vector or pixel layer in the Layer Palette, AD closes the Layer slide out immediately after when, given that I just created the new layer, I'd like to name it, so I have to open the studio again. AAF.
  19. MacOS 11.2.3, AD 1.9.2 Happens 100% of time. Copy an object (a group, a shape), open a new document from template that has shapes while is snapping on, paste the object, and when I try to move the copied object to snap to the boundaries of the object that came from the template, snapping doesn't work. Only starts working if I zoom in or out a bit first (I use Opt-Mouse), no specific amount. Easy enough workaround, but annoying after having had to do it a dozen or so times. Also found that even if snapping is turned off in the document I'm copying to, I paste, then turn on snapping, it still doesn't work until I zoom in & out.
  20. We use external numeric keypads attached to panels next to our iPads for keyboard shortcuts, but we can't remap every command we need (Undo, Redo). Does anyone know of a way, or an app, that allows remapping of keys (not just modifier) on iOS? Such as, we've mapped the 1 key to Vector Brush, 2 to Move, etc. Thanks for any help.
  21. Also wish the following to have the ability to modify keyboard shortcuts: Close Window, Undo, Redo. We use numeric keypads attached to a panel beside our iPads, remapping the commands. For now, the two-finger tap to Undo works, but it's hard to three-finger tap to Redo when wearing a two-finger glove & holding an Apple Pencil (at least it is for us), so ability to modify the keyboard command would be greatly appreciated.
  22. I had just opened the file, nothing was selected, and drawing with the Pencil tool was the first thing I did. I was going back through multiple files to fill in some shapes exactly the same way – draw with Pencil tool fully invisible, then open Color Studio and set fill to black, stroke stays invisible. So maybe the issue shows itself when working through multiple files in this way. I'll keep better check, though I don't use the pencil tool that often. I just had to work on a bunch of files this one time.
  23. Sean, Maybe it's not as simple as I thought, because when I start with a blank canvas, it works as expected. I'll work at making it repeatable and let you know.
  24. Their version numbering has been screwed up for a while. If you look during start-up, it's 1.9.1. If you look in Settings, it's 1.9.7. I assume the former is correct as it matches the Mac version. They are aware of the issue but haven't done anything to fix it.
