    Nothing what?

In Affinity Designer 2 the Delete key works fine on the iPad. In Affinity Designer 1.x, not so much. Since it is fixed in version 2, I don't think you should expect fixes to version 1.

What did you expect that person to do, writing about a long-standing problem before V2 was even released?

    Build a time machine?

As for fixes in version 2, they also broke some fundamental functionality (at least on the Mac desktop), such as Add Geometry, which just deletes the layers now without combining the objects.

  2. Video shows AD v1 vs v2, where we created two curves with Pencil tool and tried to Add them. Version 1 makes single curve out of both while version 2 just deletes the curves.

Version 2 works as expected if Auto-Close is turned on (not available in version 1), but if you use Sculpt, the curve is auto-closed on first pause of drawing line and when you continue from last point, the curve becomes open again, even though Auto-Close is still ticked on. Curve will not close from that point on and will be deleted when Add is applied.

I am getting similar results if neither of the two curves have a fill color & if they are not both closed curves. If either one or both are filled with any color or if both are closed, it works as expected (like in V1).

This should be reported as a bug I think....

Oh, I see that Auto-Close was not something that was in v1, but if I set it, it does as you say, which is work as expected.

Now I hope the Auto-Close is a setting that remembers how you last set it, unlike Sculpt mode, which never remembers, which is a pain because we always use it in Sculpt mode.

But then what does Auto-Close with Sculpt mode mean? Well, it appears to mean the line will close itself when you first stop, but then you can start drawing again like usual from your last point, but that then makes the line open again while Auto-Close is still on, which brings back the problem of the line disappearing you try to Geometry Add it. Even if you toggle Auto-Close on & off, it still remains open and disappears when you add it.

I was so hopeful for a few seconds.

    Back to version 1!

  4. With version 1 of Designer for Mac, I would draw a number of outlines using the pen tool, and at the end, do a Geometry Add to make it all one object to act as a clipping mask.

With version two, doing the same thing, one of the curves will just disappear, or both will if they're both new curves.

I tried separating a compound curve and then add them all together again, but then the overlap of the new curve knocks out the other curves.

This seems really completely broken to me. Currently, I'm just not joining them and am using each curve as its own mask.

Thanks for any help or explanation.

    Added video. Clearly, it's broken.

Rigth in all of them. And I dunnow why but V2 it's slower than V1 and make my PC less fast

I found, on the Mac, that the old workaround of duplicating the Affinity app, deleting the original, and then opening the first time to verify, speeds up opening the app by quite a bit. (And maybe the app overall, but that might be psychosomatic.)

Things were taking forever, but now it's fine.

(It had to do something with permissions. Sorry if this doesn't help on Windows.)

I thought the Radio Antenna animation was in the opening.

Yeah, it comes before the T&C, but that part was easy to mimic with a cat, a child's record player, some cotton balls, and the recording of morse code in meows.

Glyphs are easy to to draw - but this is pretty close if not based on this: https://www.fontspring.com/fonts/ae-type-inc/reload

Thanks for this, it does look like what we're looking for, but as you say, this font should be pretty easy to make by hand; especially since all we need are caps.

But if there's a faster, easier, less expensive way, we tend to go lazy.

    Thanks again for your help.

  7. Okay, after having a night to sleep on it, we realized that even though they were trying to portray a "shadow effect" in the titles & credits, it is actually what we would call 3D text.

Worked on different ideas using Designer & Photo, but none came out looking right, so we broke down and went to Blender…and learned that Blender has the worst text editing tools.

Anyway, created the text, added some thickness, converted it all into mesh, selected all the vertices other than those along the front, scaled them up from the origin point so they spread out to either side, then moved them up the z-axis until they were even, changed those extruded faces to pure black while keeping the front faces an off-white, put it in front of a green screen using an orthographic camera with shadow casting turned off, rendered, and…

    What a pain.

Now if we could only find a font close to obviously hand-done one.

PP, what app are you using in your top image?

Anyway, thanks everyone for he help.

And the image is the opening credits for 1933's King Kong.

    Wtf?! Still nothing?

Why we moved on to using pen displays.

    So much heartache fluttered away.

Would never pay for an update to the iPad version. And is the reason why we never purchased the iPad version of Photo.

We believe Serif/Affinity are circling the drain and it won't be long now. Which is sad.

... and so on, do also a forum search!

Yeah, okay, but none of those are close to what we're trying to achieve if you look at our actual image, which is not 3D but hand cut back around 1932. It is as though the light is at bottom center & it radiates out from there, which none of your examples show. We've tried perspective warps, convert-to-curves and drag lines, and they all sucked, but we're hoping there's a graphic design genius who knows this obscure are.

We're close to falling back onto Blender, but we like Affinity products better.

So while we appreciate the help, maybe you can help us on how to search for "Text Shadow" and find what we're looking for. Not that you should assume that we didn't already try that.

Does anyone even recognize the movie this image came from?

Well, perhaps, but most of us would prefer them not to be quite so trying!

I was, of course, being facetious with my original comment.

What I'd really like to know is if they're still in business or just barely hanging on, because they still haven't fixed some very simple and basic issues, and the frequency of their updates seems to be waning.

    Hi @skmwrp
If you follow the link below, it should advise you where assets and brushes are stored so you can back them up.

Okay, but it should say "Big Sur and later", because following paths are confusing.

    Thanks.
