Hi there, thank you for your suggestions! Unfortunately, neither of these appear to do what I'm trying to do, unless I'm just doing it wrong. The first option definitely makes the image *darker*, but it does not drop the darkest point past the dark grey floor it seems to have, instead it just has the effect of making the other mid-grays darker, which causes a lack of fidelity.

The second option seems to increase contrast, but again, does not change the darkest gray to actual black.

Try vivid light instead of hard light. I have a few versions. I'm in Photo not publisher.

I’m personally dissatisfied with the capabilities of Develop Persona and use it only as quick and dirty way if i don’t want to fire up the more capable (quality wise) DPP, which is so slow that it hurts, but has it merits when batch processing and working with recipes.

I'm also unhappy with the Develop Persona. Fortunately as a Sony shooter I can use the free Capture One express for Sony which does a very good RAW conversion for Sony images. And it has a rather clever auto adjust that gives good base settings. Then send a tiff to Affinity Photo for finishing. The very fast Iridient S-Transformer is also good for Sony images but I think C1 Express is at least as good if not better. (There is an Iridient C-Transformer for Canon)

While I agree that this should be doable on a basic level....

FWIW: One workaround that hasn't been mentioned is to make a macro (takes but a few seconds). Once created the whole thing is just one click.
I have two: horizontal flip and vertical flip.
(of course in Affinity gotcha land we can't assign keystrokes to call up macros, so it must be clicked in the library list)

This is much easier if you have two screens. I have my assets and library open on my second screen and macros are one click. Its almost worth getting a cheap 2nd screen just for this.

anyone using a print utility? likeQimage? as  affinity is still not good for custom inks, and medias, i was concidering dorpping the cash on a utility. i also use corel painter, and it seems that it is the same issue, with custom profiles...it is a shame, but i need to do something.

I have Mirage Small Studio Edition for a Canon Pro 300. Their pricing depends on printer size and is reasonable rather than cheap. It just works.
