Hi there!
If you Alt-LMBÂ on a layer you get into an isolated layer display which is very helpful in many occasions. While in this view, the color picker tool ("I"Â or just ALT-LMB on the pane) still selects the top-most color, which you cannot currently see however. Even the preview on the color picker shows the expected result but the resulting color is different.
You can see in the following picture, I'm trying to select a gray tone, while the color values and border shows the purple color that will be selected eventually.

It's easy to reproduce but I attached a little test setup.
I don't know if this can be considered a bug or expected behavior, but it would only be intuitive and also very powerful if you could pick the color you actually see. Would be magic if you have a seperate layer to do some shading and you want to make a nice blend there, but I'm not able to pick the color in between.
Thanks and cheers!

Hi LordStuff,
Have you tried to change the Accumulation in the General tab? It should do what you want.It goes in the same general direction but seemingly does not result in the same effects. See my attachment on this.

YES, this is working! There is no opacity slider in the editor dialog, but you can save the opacity when you save a duplicate of your current brush!

It's a difference tho if you duplicate in the brush collection and then try to edit it. You have to select one, edit it via context and save the brush from there.
Thank you all for you time and effort, this has been - once again - very helpful!

You can edit the mask by making sure you have the move tool selected (v) click on the mask in the layers panel then hold the â key while right mouse clicking on the area of the page where the mask sits, which gives you a list of whatever in in the mask group - you can then edit, blur, alter opacity or mess around with blend ranges and all that, on a all elements that make up your mask, you can move from each element of the mask by using â„â[ and â„â] shortcutsÂ
Once you're working inside the mask group you can even add pixel and vector layers to the mask and paint or add shapes - very powerful
Thanks for answering!
Unfortunately I wasn't really able to follow that as I'm working on Windows 10. I tried selecting the group mask, then Ctrl+RMB which only gives me the default context menu. All I do there is affecting the whole group.
I've watched the video and I'm sure this would at least enable me to work with masks that consist of groups, but I somehow cannot reach that layer selection menu you showed! It does indeed look powerful!
Thanks again for your effort! I really appreciate it.
EDIT: Then again, the logic for editing layers in a grouped mask obviously exists, so I'd prefer it to be accessible through the known tools for groups ;D

Hi @LordStuff,
Could you attach the afphoto file for this and i'll help further once i've seen how everything is setup and displays
Â
Hi,
I made a quick sample document.
It's relatively easy to reproduce, once you assembled a group you want to use as a mask, you only need to drag'n'drop it on a layer or alternatively right click the group and click Mask to Below.
You can even see the app still recognizes it as a group, but the group collapse button is not there, so you cannot edit the group's different contents seperately.
Thanks for your time!

Hi there!
As the title suggests, can you somehow save the opacity you want to a custom brush?
It's kind of annoying that it always resets to 100%.
As I didn't find any default brushes with opacities other than 100%, I guess not, but I'm still asking here ;D

Thanks and cheers!

Unfortunately there is no mirror option for vectors,Â
In Affinity Designer Itâs possible to use symbols to create mirroring effects but you still have to flip and rotate.
Yes, I have seen that in a video and instantly commented. Hm, kinda sad that something like this is not possible..
-
That is good to know, I don't quite see what parameters I need to use to mirror it horizontally without affecting it vertically, but I guess it would work somehow.
Still, the filter sadly needs the layer to be rasterized as well. Being able to have the pen path stay intact while mirroring, having a preview of the end result, that would be massively powerful.
-
Thank you for answering! I found info on the brush tool, but is there something similar to use with lines resulting from the pen tool?
-
Hi there!
Is there some functionality to mirror something by some axis?
For example I have a layer with a Pen path that creates a line for an image frame. I want that line to be horizontally mirrored so I have both halves of the path be the exact same form?
The alternative would be duplicating the layer, rasterizing it, then mirroring it. But as layer mirroring only works within it's own bounds, I'd need to move it to the other side by hand. To align it in the centre I'd then need to put them both in a group. All that is very tedious if I want to adapt the pen path afterwards.
Thanks and cheers!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @LordStuff.
The Affinity apps arenât yet able to work with variable font technology, so you canât use the âOswald-VariableFont_wghtâ TTF file. You need to install the individual font weights from the âstaticâ folder.
Oh alright! That is good to know. Thanks for the quick answer!
EDIT: Installing them with the seperate files from the static folder works perfectly! Thanks for the help

Hi there!
I downloaded this free font from google https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Oswald and after installing it, the font is listed in Affinity Photo like you can see in the screenshot below.
The differented faces of the font seem to be installed correctly (when taking a look in the Windows fonts window) and do work in MS Word.
Any advice?
Thanks and cheers!

Hi there!
When I right click a Group and click Mask to Below, the resulting Layer Mask can not be edited well anymore. The group cannot be expanded anymore.
You can see that in the picture. The left side is before, the right side is after making the group a mask. It renders as expected, but is kind of destructive as you cannot handle the group in seperate layers.
Is there a way to use multiple layers inside a single layer mask?
Â
Thanks and Cheers!

Hi there!
In a hierarchically layered design I'd like to use one layer as a mask to the one below, but keep the layer intact to also be rendered.
Is that possible?
Â
Thanks and cheers!
