ziplock9000 reacted to MEB in ALIGN - Is it possible to align two objects with one staying in place?
    Hi MaiglSens,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Currently In Affinity you can only align in relation to the first or last object selected so make sure the reference object is the first or the last object you select, pick the type of alignment you want from the Alignment popup in the main toolbar (the Align to dropdown should become available at this point) then change the Align to dropdown to the first or last object depending on what you decided when you were selecting them (currently we have an  issue logged related to the type of alignment and Align to order - it's possible you can select the Align to dropdown first if you are on Windows if i remember correctly but will have to check out).

That screen shot looks like two separate curve layers. Try adding them with Layer > Geometry > Add. Then you will have one Curves layer.

I believe I know the workflow you're talking about, @ziplock9000 and have used it in the past myself a little.  In my case, it was in Reallusion's Cartoon Animator (CA) before they dumped Mac users a a year ago.  I could right-click an object and select something like "Edit in External Editor".  That object would be sent straight to Photo (or Designer if I preferred), I could make my edits (probably flattening any newly created effects layers) and simply hit Save - not Export - at which point the edited graphic would go straight back to CA.  No intermediate file required.  (Well, there almost certainly was an intermediate file, but that part of the process was dealt with automatically in the background.)
    This workflow depended on
CA being able to designate the external editor in its preferences and then setting Photo's General > Enable Save over imported PSD files setting to be ticked.
I don't remember exactly but think this feature was introduced in both Photo and Designer at least three or four years ago.
Does your game development software have a setting for the external graphics editor?  I'm guessing it must since you were previously using it with Photoshop.  If it's hardwired for Photoshop, then that's not Serif's fault.  Still, in the absence of Photoshop, you might be able to rig up a workaround with file aliases or whatever the equivalent feature is called under Windows - shortcuts?

I know. - But it could, if it would be taken into account here too, as Affinity can also write/generate that bitmap format.

Here's what I use it for.

Imagine you have a multi layered complex project and you want isolate one layer only to work on. Selecting that layer and de-selecting the "edit all layers" button will only allow selection and/or editing to that one layer. You no longer need to worry about selecting unwanted elements underneath or above that layer.

Now if we can get the ability to enact a shortcut or a right click menu operator for this it would be much better and faster. :-)

I cannot confirm that. When I hold down the space bar, the lines around the layer boundary disappear even when I adjust the layer effects. Whether this window has the focus or not does not matter.

I have a feeling Serif wont use another API that works just fine on AMD cards that competitors already use either.
Remember, competing products work just fine. Serif have just chosen to use the API that has poor performance. Seemingly even with V2.x of the suite
The issue is mostly with them not AMD who provide a valid, working API.
Again, let me repeat: Competing products work fine.

Your "Android is fragmented" is an old phrase from 5+ years ago. The Android market for several years has been a lot more consolidated and is a larger revenue generator than iOS devices. Google's ecosystem is better than Apple, that's why Apple comes pre-loaded with Google ecosystem products. Upgrading Android is very safe too, can be obtained without carrier lock in. Because Android services a LOT more people than iOS, it appeals to low and high end devices, unlike Apple. The high-end devices that have no carrier lock in have OS updates directly from Google.
It seems you're opinions are several years out of date and come with a large dose of bias.

I'm a professional mobile games developer and I never have this issue with different Android devices going back 4/5 years at least. The only time you should have that problem is if you are targeting old low budget phones that Apple never produces products for anyway. This is mostly an inaccurate old cliché that is quite a few years out of date.

I could not get it to snap to 100% size, regardless of which node I used. Am I missing something, or is it just a matter of very carefully setting it to 100% manually?
Either way, it is still a multi-step operation so it would be nice if there was a one-step duplicate & mirror tool mode of some kind built into the app.

Yes, it will, but my point is the Point Transform Tool will not. It would be nice if we had a simple Duplicate & Mirror tool mode of some sort that worked on all shapes.

It makes absolutely no sense that the origin point does not work with all transformations, rotations and flipping. It's extremely puzzling how this has been left this way for so long. It's basic things like this that really set AF back.

on gaming side they are fine, this is what hurts actually. I enjoy my games with the 5500XT for the last 2 years with zero issues, but this thing with the openCL is biting bad right now.

Adobe products use OpenCL on AMD GPUs, they have zero issues running on there. DaVinci Resolve uses OpenCL, but surprisingly it doesn't have any issues on AMD either.
Blender switched from OpenCL to HIP on AMD GPUs, because this API is more reliable, versatile, faster, future proof and very similar to CUDA. Also OpenCL as a whole has really big problems in general, it's hard and annoying to implement for hardware manufacturers, that's why everyone sticks to 2.0. OpenCL 3.0 is a big reset which makes most features optional because Khronos (standardisation organisation) has realized 2.0+ was a big mistake.
Serif has 3 options to handle this:
    - fix the OpenCL bug like all other creative apps, make use of OpenCL 3.0's feature query function in the future.
    - think straigh forward, future proof and switch to a better API (HIP and CUDA)
    - or just do nothing and blame AMD for not supporting a broken API
Obviously the latter option does not fix anything.

They have always blamed AMD from the start. While there is an issue with the driver, developers of other products have not chosen to use this development path or have switch and have no issues.
They choose to use a broken API and refuse to use another one that works.

Because the issue has persisted for so long, the ball has firmly been in AF's court for a while now, not AMD.
    Poop analogy incoming warning:
If I was a home decorator and the paint I had been using no longer works, I'd not keep telling my customers I can't paint their walls for over a year, I'd buy paint from another company. I'd also not tell customers to get another painter, just because I wont use paint from another company.

Well lets be honest here, the vast majority of the people who have bought AF products did so because they are astronomically cheaper than Adobe products and do a similar job. Those people wont have 20-30 times that amount of money to buy new graphics cards or new computers just to run Affinity products. If they did, they would have stuck with Adobe products. Yes there are exceptions, but it's the low cost that brings almost everyone to AF products.
Not totally related to what you've said, but slightly. It also addresses someone further up who was suggesting buying a new NVidia card for ~£1000 for a product that costs £25 when on sale. Crazy.

Blender uses HIP on AMD hardware, which is a CUDA competitor. HIP runs on AMD and Nvidia GPUs, it even has an automated CUDA to HIP source code converter, so there is absolutely no excuse to not include this acceleration technique in your application if it already has CUDA support!

And yes DaVinci Resolve has zero issues with AMDs OpenCL driver, it performs a lot better on my new AMD GPU compared to my previous Nvidia 1060.
The fact that the Affinity suite is the only software collection which has these problems makes me believe that this is not an AMD problem at all, just an excuse to not bother fixing the bugs for which Serif don't care much about.

Can't disagree with that, the low entry price make it easy to jump in. Also the big sale point was that designer (that I use mostly) perform 10fold better and utilize the modern hardware, unlike adobe illustrator that refuse to see more than a core (not that designer use them all the time, but I have noticed way more utilization and many times hit 100% of CPU usage).
But the hardware that is having problem now is not some cheap intel integrated GPU, are top tier AMD cards and that's what it bites hard.
And atm I honestly believe that AMD GPUs are offering a better value than nVidia (that had the audacity to charge 200 euros for 1630). That being said I don't disagree that changing GPUs is not the way to fix to the problem, if you are not about to upgrade anyway.
Anyway, the biggest issue here is the lack of input from serif themselves, they don't say anything about it here, they don't even bother to upgrade the system requirements so people at least know, they still state that all you need for GPU acceleration is a DX 12.0 GPU.
And honestly I think the apps now are leaning more heavy on GPU than on CPU because with no GPU acceleration the performance is horrible, something that I didn't noticed before they introduce GPU acceleration.
