  1. 1. Shift-F5 then choose Primary or Secondary colour. 2. x, same as PS 3. Not directly that I know of but I'll give it some thought. 4. [ and ] change brush size. You can also hold ctrl and opt then click and drag sideways - or up and down to change hardness. It's currently not possible to change keyboard shortcuts but I think it's on the road map for upcoming features.
  2. Sorry, I just realised you're talking about AD and my suggestion was for AP.
  3. Try this. In the Select menu, choose Select Sampled Colour then click in the white area and experiment with the tolerance slider.
  4. Can anyone explain to me what the "Edit All Layers" button in the Layers Panel of AP does - and why I might want to use it?
  5. I've been trying to do the same thing but I suspect it's not possible to apply adjustments to a mask, but it's a feature I hope they add soon.
  6. Jim, It's the same in PS. You have to rasterise the rectangle layer first.
  7. CPP, You can do this in AP but not with a fill layer. Just create a new pixel layer and fill it with 50% grey. You can do this either with the flood fill tool or select Fill... from the Edit menu.
  8. I understand the privacy issue but, rather than a checkbox that we need to remember every time we save, I'd be happier if save history could be set as a default. Perhaps a compromise would be to allow it to be set as a default but generate a popup dialogue warning that history was being saved and requiring the user to accept that, and any ensuing consequences. Perhaps something for your solicitors to discuss. :)
  9. I created a new AP project with a white background selected and want change to a transparent background. Is there a way to do this. I tried the "Erase white Paper" filter but that didn't seem to do anything. Any ideas?
  10. Off the top of my head I can't think of a way to modify the luminosity range of a mask while viewing the affects of it's adjustment layer in real time. It's possible to alter the mask and see, in real time, the area selected, albeit a little fiddly, but I can't think of a way to modify the mask while viewing the effect of the adjustment layer that is being masked.
  11. The document setup item is in AD but I don't think AP has it unfortunately. It would be handy to switch from white paper to transparent in AP because it affects the channels panel.
  12. Yes, actions are the thing that's really essential for serious luminosity masking work. It would be nice if they gave us parameterised actions that prompt the user for values that affect the action so custom masks can easily be created.
  13. MBd, That can be done too. All you need to do is set the blend options on a copy of the image (on top of the original) and apply the adjustment layer as a child to that upper layer. This has the disadvantage of duplicating the image (file size) but means that you don't actually create a separate mask. If you want to change the luminosity range affected you just need to change the blend options on the upper layer. Although, the problem with that approach is that your adjustments will alter the luminosity of the overall image and so the effective mask will change as the adjustment layer is altered. This needs a little more thought. I'll get back to you if I can think of a solution.
  14. csp, Thanks for that tip. I did a little experimenting and that lead me to a great, simple way to get very flexible luminosity masks. If anyone's interested, I've put together a short video to demonstrate the technique. It's here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/11178-creating-flexible-luminosity-masks-in-ap/
  15. There have been a couple of threads recently relating to luminosity masks and the limited flexibility available in AP. In one of those threads csp proposed blending options as a better way to do this which set me thinking about how that could work. I have produced a quick, simple video that explains a way to generate a very flexible luminosity mask using blend options. I hope some of you may find it useful. Thanks to csp for the original idea. http://youtu.be/2NfimjzLdbA
  16. Gute Idee aber würde Apple zusammenarbeiten? Ich denke nicht.
  17. What is the file type? If you paid for this it sounds as though it should be some layered type like .psd or .tiff. I think (but correct me if I'm wrong) that Affinity does not yet support layered tiff files.
  18. I was curious about what the difference might be between the Gray option in PS and the Master option in AP so I did a simple test. I stress that this is a simple test and does not allow for the more complicated use case you are dealing with. Nonetheless, I concluded that, within the parameters of my test, the two options are essentially the same. I'd be interested to know how your needs differ to try to isolate what the differences are between PS and AP. Here is a link to a document that explains the test that I did. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7568628/Blend%20If%20%E2%80%93%20PS%20versus%20AP.pdf
  19. I'm sure it's non-destructive to the original raw file as it makes no sense to actually edit the photo site data in a raw file. Clicking Develop, I expect, creates a pixel image from the raw file. Raw files don't contain RGB pixels so it would be difficult and unnecessary to apply edits to the raw data in the original file.
  20. I suppose it depends on your workflow. Dodge and burn are two tools that I never use. I was taught to always use the paint brush because it's so simple to remove an adjustment - you just paint in 50% grey and you're back to the original.
  21. Have you tried disabling the Assistant? In general, no two RAW convertors are likely to produce exactly the same image with their default settings because there are no definitively correct default conversion parameters. Have you tried to alter the parameters in the develop persona to get the look you are after? If you can find that set of values then create a preset and you may be able to get the default processing your after.
  22. This post lists all supported raw formats. The E-1 and E-500 are both there I think. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/4630-supported-develop-raw-cameras/
  23. Have you looked at the tutorial video on frequency separation? https://vimeo.com/130965888 Homathko, The low-freq layer is soft because it has had the high-freq info removed and that's where all of the sharpness is.
  24. Creating a copy is necessary so I doubt you'll find a decent DAM system that doesn't do that. It's because it is designed to work with RAW files and these need to be edited non-destructively. The RAW convertor reads the data from the file and constructs the image but there is no one-to-one correspondence between an RBG pixel in the final image and the data from one of the camera's photo sites. When Lightroom (or Aperture...) is used to edit an image it doesn't actually change the file it just changes the parameters for the RAW conversion and stores them in a database. The original RAW image data is never changed. So, when you want to edit that image in other software you have the choice of either sending the original RAW file, which contains none of the changes made in LR, or, if you want the LR changes included, it must create a new pixel based file with those changes already implemented. Remember, a RAW file is not pixel based, it has no RGB pixels in it. Photoshop can't edit a RAW file, it first has to pass it to ACR for conversion to a pixel image. Similarly, AP can't edit a RAW file, it must first be passed to the Develop persona for conversion to a pixel image. Of course, it would be possible to do what you want if you are shooting jpeg but these days most photography software is going to cater for RAW files and so may not necessarily give you a separate destructive jpeg edit route. It's why programmes like LR don't require you to save individual photos as you edit them. They aren't changing the image file just updating their database on the fly. It's not something I've investigated so I can't say which software does or doesn't offer that option.
