gordo got a reaction from ronnyb in Still converts Black only to 4/C
I think I know what the problem may be.
Although the PDF has an embedded  profile it does not have a rendering intent embedded (I believe that InDesign calls this "Output Intent Profile Name")
When Acrobat opens the PDF it expects to see a rendering intent (likely true for many RIPs). If it does not see the rendering intent then it simply ignores the embedded profile and assigns an arbitrary profile and 100K gets rendered as a 4/C rich black.
Depending on how a prepress RIP is set up, you will either correctly get 1 black plate or you will incorrectly get 4 plates (one for each of the colors in the now rich black)
PhotoShop (a simple RIP) opens the Publisher PDF and displays it correctly as a CMYK file with image content only in the K channel.
Affinity Photo, on the other hand, opens the PDF and displays it as a CMYK file with image content in all channels. I.e. Affinity Photo converts the one color (K) PDF into 4/C (rich black)
I can't see a way in Publisher to embed the rendering intent (as can be done in InDesign) which would eliminate the issue.
So this lack of ability to embed the rendering intent will be problematic in production with folks getting unpredictable results.  :-(

Good, because it’s a show stopper if it’s not fixed. And just to be clear, this refers to a K only graphic in a CMYK document that’s exported as a PDF.

Ah, a user bug. I'll have to talk to my developers about it.LOL
I've never had that option with other apps so I never looked for it.

That seems to just be a screen refresh issue. If you change the view zoom the text looks right - but the wrap around is still gone.
But now we find out that we're using an old rev of the program! ROTFL!

gordo got a reaction from rjvela82 in Crop image loses text wrap around
If you crop an image that has text runaround of a PSD image the text wrap around is lost even though Publisher thinks it's still there.
Attached is a video that demonstrates this as well as the source image and page.

Got it. Thanks, hadn't realized that I could drag to size when placing.
Perhaps I'm the bug because of learning habits using InDesign for too many years. LOL
    Good stuff.

"Document Setup" appears to have the same content as "New Document" except for setting "Bleed"
Defining bleed should be a setting when creating a new document (rather than the only different item in Document setup) since bleed is part of the basic geometry of a page destined for print.

Oh wow! Oh wow! Oh wow! ;-)

A big well done to the team! Publisher is a really superb piece of work, with features way in advance of what I imagined you would be able to deliver in a first release (I remember the launch version of InDesign, and how far it was from Quark Xpress — Publisher, on the other hand, seems almost no distance away from InDesign). And I love the way you’ve implemented some of the features, too, with the panache we‘ve come to expect from Affinity.

I can imagine some pretty long faces in San Jose this morning. Just please don‘t let Adobe buy you out because you’re killing their revenue stream!

Just wanted to say that I am impressed with (& a bit overwhelmed by!) how much this first public beta offers, as well as the first set of video tutorials.
    Great work!

gordo got a reaction from bompea in Photo liquify face request
I would love to see Affinity Photo have something like the "Liquify" filter in PShop (see attached). That is the filter that allows you to make subtle facial geometry adjustments and it is extremely useful in portrait work. The filter works quite well in PShop, however, it only has auto face recognition. So, if it doesn't "see" a face because of things like beards and glasses fooling it, then you're out of luck using the tool. So, if this is something Affinity would include then it should include the ability for the user to manually identify facial features for adjustment.

I just find it very hopeful Affinity Publisher is IN development. I've fallen in love with both Designer and Photo, even though I do have to get used to it after decades of Adobe's software.

my company is counting on you, and the decision to throw out photoshop and the reason we´ve allready bought about 120 licences of affinity photo is based on the assumption, we will be able to change our whole adobe product line including indesign...

Affinity Publisher is in the works. In a rush of enthusiasm it was originally announced much too early, but the public beta should be with us before the end of this year.

Glad, you're enjoying Quark, but to be honest, I don't like the new version at all. It's a nice enough software (been using it many years ago), but even though they try hard, they are currently not up to scratch. I personally am eagerly awaiting a good, new and modern layout software!

You are right insofar, that competition to Lightroom is sought after by many as well, my opinion though is, that this competition should go further, offering a complete DAM solution, reading more than just image files.

    Hi amazme1

LR and Photo are different apps aimed at different uses and are not completely comparable. As MEB as pointed out Photo is more akin to a PS workflow which focuses more on complex image editing, pixel manipulation and layer structures.

We do have plans to develop a separate DAM application in the future whcih may be more what you are looking for, but we are focused on getting the core trio of apps developed first before we start adding new apps to the line up

    Cheers

    Hi amazme1,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Lightroom is not a photo editor but a RAW developer. It's editing tools are not up to what Photoshop offers. Affinity Photo is both a RAW developer and photo editor.
We already announced plans for an Affinity DAM software which will work seamlessly with Affinity Photo.
