Any news on a blend tool - above it was mentioned that a replicate/blend tool is on the roadmap - any news?
Affinity sucks man...

Yeah what? Why did you post something that isn't working?

Hello friends,
I placed a layered APh file into another file that's a comp. I edited the embedded APh file several times, so my original embedded doc as saved on disk is outdated. I now want to save out the embedded file as it's own file back to disk. When I go to edit the embedded document, Save As… is grayed out. What's the best way to save my file back to disk?
Also, guess what? When you export the file to PSD when you open it again in affinity, all text layers turn to pixel layers... Yeah, Affinity is trash

hmmm.... I wish affinity wasn't so trash.

PSD mockups is a huge market and without non-destructive editable mesh we can't use mockups.
Please add this feature this year. People are asking for this since 2015.

Hi @EvGa,
Unfortunately that's correct, the Mesh Warp Tool in Affinity Photo is a destructive tool, meaning once applied you cannot return to the same Mesh Warp for editing later. Changes will be 'rasterised' with the pixel layer and there is no way to return to editing the same mesh once applied.
This is something our developers hope to improve in the future, as a non-destructive 'live' version of this tool certainly has it's benefits - however I can't provide any timescale for this at this time, my apologies!
This is a huge disadvantage for you when it comes to Mockups. Without non-destructive mesh, people can't use mockups in AP.
You guys need to hire some developers very soon. I saw people are asking for this feature since 2015. What are you waiting for?

I can't just create a new file ‘cause my work is almost done 😂
Though I actually don't need to expand any stroke, this seems to affect the export function. When my work was exported as EPS or SVG, a lot of the lines got narrower.
Yes, this is the same bug I had when I exported the broken file to PDF. When I exported it after moving it to the new file the lines was fine.

I have the same issue so maybe you can check the file of mine.
Yes, the problem was just a bug, and I solve it by creating new file and transfer the work to it.

Do you understand how bad this is? If you're working with a mockup and you need to do changes to the label, you need to place the new exported label to affinity, and do the mesh warp all over again and again and again to the label to fit to the product.... This is so bad.

6 years later and they did nothing about it. I really want to love affinity but you guys are so slow.
-
So, if I understand, we can't keep the same mesh warp and everytime you click away the mesh warp resets? Is there any way to keep the same mesh warp transformation and to make edits later.
For example I'm using the Mesh warp on an image and when I come back to it, the mesh warp resets...

Can you create a system that updades the software automatically please?

Do you have “Save thumbnails with documents” set to ON – via “Preferences / General” – in all of your Affinity Applications?
Thanks! That's a solution.

Some AFF files showing a preview of the work inside the file, some are not. Is there any option to fix that? Is there any option to choose if I want thumbnails or just Affinity Icon?
But besides that, Why some Aff files showing thumbs and some are not?

Please refer to the Affinity Photo Help on Embedding documents, where (in the section on editing an embedded document) you will see this:
Unfortunately they don't mention anything about auto saving.
So, my original question is, how to stop embedded document from making changes to the parent document.
Please don't post irrelevant answers.

It is an embedded document, not a separate file.
Ok whatevs.

I for sure don't get it. As I understand it, if the document is embedded, it is not a separate file (like it would be if it was linked). It is simply a part of the document.
No no, you confused with "embedded" and "linked" images. That's completely two different things. Embedded file means it's a sub file inside a parent file which you can distort the perspective of it and place it to mockups. So when you need to change the label of the mockup, you have to open the embedded file, which again is a different file inside the parent file, edit it and then it updates the mockup image.
Affinity call this "Embedded file" and Photoshop "Smart object layer" which is the same thing.

Besides, if it did not update anything until the parent document was saved
I think you don't get it. You don't save the parent file. You work on the embedded and when you save it, it updates the parent file. Not the other way around. This is how Photoshop works.

Just curious I suppose but what makes you think it takes a lot of computing power to update the parent document? In your video it looks like it updates very quickly, suggesting that does not tax your system.
It does affect my system and it spikes the temps of my CPU which is annoying because fans spinning faster. But that's not a big deal.
7 hours ago, R C-R said:Besides, if it did not update anything until the parent document was saved, wouldn't you have to constantly refer to the "<Embedded>" document view to know what state the parent document was in?
No, because I work with the panels side by side. Also, not all changes need to be displayed when the smart object is a work in progress. It must be optional.
Can someone from affinity staff answer me if this an option or not?

Hello!
I'm moving from PS to Affinity Photo and I think the embedded document and PSD smart object imports are working great but I noticed, when you are making changes to the embedded document it auto-saves on the fly. Can I disable this feature and make it wait for me to save the document before changing the main file like the PSD smart objects do? I mean, it's great feature, I like it but it draws a lot of my computing power and I would like to turn it off.
Take a look if you don't understand what I'm talking about. First I'm showing how affinity and how PS works.

+1 for permanent "reset bounding box"
