  1. Hi Nathan C Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply to me. I took another look, and there certainly does appear to be a border around the edge of the image in the slice. That would explain the gaps when using the image to create a custom brush. I tried playing around with the handles, making the image overlap etc etc, but I always seem to end up with the gaps. When I just exported the artboard directly to png without using the export persona or creating a slice, it worked perfectly. So the issue appears to be with the slice creation, unless I am doing something wrong obviously. That is highly likely since I am very new to using this type of application. As I have already found what is to me a perfectly acceptable work around, I can't see myself getting into a screeching rage about this! I was merely curious to see whether this is an inbuilt issue with the slices, or down to me being inept. I'm perfectly willing to accept it is almost certainly the latter! I have attached a copy of the afdesign document with the artboard and slice so you can take a look if you so wish. I deleted all the other artboards and stuff not related to this query, so it's all easier to see. I'd be very interested to hear the cause of the 1px border, or what it is I am doing wrong, so that I can avoid it in the future. Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to help me. 2. Hi I am working in Designer 2.04 and have created a custom vector brush to enable me to draw an eight lane avenue with parking spaces. To do this, I created the design on an artboard, then within the export persona, using the slice for my artboard, I exported the image as a 3x PNG. I then selected New Textured Image brush from within the brushes studio panel and edited the brush to repeat rather than stretch. However when I create a stroke using the pen tool, then apply the custom brush to the stroke, it leaves repeated gaps between uniform sections. I have checked the artboard and my design image is totally aligned with the edges of the artboard. Using the same artboard, I exported direct to PNG from within the Designer profile and created a PNG 3x my design. I created another brush using this exported image and it worked perfectly. No gaps at all. I have checked the two png images I created and there does not appear to be any gaps or edges in either of them. They are both from the same artboard and one works and one doesn’t. I tried experimenting with larger images and with having the objects overhanging the edges of the artboard, but that did not seem to make any difference. So it seems that the issue appears to be with how the slice is created for the artboard in the export persona. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong here? I have attached the two PNGs I exported as well as an image showing the outcomes as an example. In the outcomes the two on the left are from the export using the slice. I’d really appreciate any pointers or advice here as I am relatively new to this stuff. Many thanks.
  3. I tried Layer > Duplicate Selection instead and it worked. I guess you are right and that is what the author meant and intended to say. I have no doubt that once I am more familiar with the application, I would just do that without even thinking about it. The fact that you would need to rasterize after using File > Place is also a very useful tip which I will bear in mind going forward. Thank you all so much for taking the trouble to reply to me. I really appreciate the help.
  4. Hi Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I am having difficulty with exercise 4 (Grilled Cheese Pull) in the Affinity Photo Workbook. The area I am experiencing problems with is section 3 on page 352. The current layer I have selected is the isolated (Alt pressed when selecting layer), Cheese 06 layer with the Cheese Group and Hero Mask layer both visible. I have selected the bottom bit of cheese as per the instructions. The book then tells you to choose Layer > Duplicate. It says this will create a duplicate of just the selected area from the Cheese Layer. You should then remove the selection marquee using Select > Deselect, then delete the original Cheese 06 layer. I followed these instructions to the letter, but it doesn’t create a layer containing just the selection, it copies the whole of the Cheese 06 layer and I am basically just back where I started. Am I missing something here? Any pointers or help would be gratefully appreciated.
