klm.ny reacted to icomposer in Fix RTL for Arabic, Persian and Hebrew languages
@Roj
thank you... this method is ok for small projects. However, for creating/designing books or bigger projects affinity applications need to handle Arabic texts as native font integration and from R to L and so on...

There is no support for RTL paragraph. I am in the middle of a massive project and I have ended up to do a paragraph line by line. Unfortunately Affinity do not see the value of RTL and whatever you say falls on deaf ears..

This is completely off-topic for this thread. Just because your favourite / required feature hasn't been implemented yet, does not mean that we aren't listening, or not working on them. Many features have been implemented based on the feedback from those forums. In your complaint about the lack of a Knife tool in Designer, you acknowledge that we've added Corner tools and Astrophotography (to Photo), both of which were raised from user feedback. I appreciate that you are desperate for a Knife tool, but we have to prioritise which features to work on, which bugs to fix etc. And it goes without saying that the Photo team is separate to the Designer team, so the addition of Astrophotography had no impact on Designer.

klm.ny reacted to Adhoob in I want to add the Arabic language, how?
Why not add languages that start from right to left.
We hope you will add the other languages because you have many users who need these languages, and I am the first

Dear Affinity TEAM,
it would be great if you can add the right to left text direction tool. You are all smart programmers and it is not a big deal for you guys. I am also ready to pay for the upgrade.
Thank you

Affinity does not support RTL languages. There are several posts about this subject, search for RTL or Arabic or Persian or Hebrew.
There are some workarounds, YMMV. But as of now there is no RTL built into the Affinity apps.

Good morning, I need to create a catalogue in Arabic. How do I set up the right-to-left script to copy and paste the translation?
Many thanks in advance

klm.ny reacted to PalaMee in Unicode font Support for Indian Languages
From 2017 onwards, I am waiting for the Tamil Unicode support in all Affinity products. As the moderators told earlier, I think it will take years for Affinity team to provide this. Let us wait.

I would not be holding my breath then and would switch back to Indesign to maintain sanity as well as an efficient workflow. You can always switch to Publisher when they have the features you need to work smoothly. Publisher is a great app, it just has some catching up and refinement to do.

They have not. Support for none Latin-based languages are NOT on the list sadly...

Guys any news on RTL support? It is beginning to cause of a lot of issues for us especially with certain fonts which APUB seems to visually substitute with system Unicode fonts and make it hard to stick to APUB and reverting back to Adobe InDesign which is definitely what we don't want to do. We are in version 1.9 and sure by now with a fairly stable platform support for RTL should be on top of the list.

Please also look for a multilingual programmer.

It has been over 2 years now. What about an update or an upgrade to solve the R to L issue? Other external apps do not do the work as an integration in the application itself.
Thank you

The 3 Affinity apps are far from complete.

@Zedd Gaming
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums
This is something Serif do want to support in the Affinity range, but unfortunately it is not a bug with a simple "fix". For this to be supported a lot of code needs to be written, as it requires support for mixed LTR and RTL in the same sentence to be properly useful, not just RTL for a whole sentence/paragraph. Sorry there is not better news on this at the moment.

It's been seven years since the initial release of their software. I think it's safe to assume they'll never support complex script or RTL text. Even if they do waaay into the future it might not be relevant anymore. Just stick to Adobe Creative Cloud, folks. It's getting better and more cost effective. Or use some of the wonderful open source stuff. The latest releases of Inkscape and Scibus are amazing.

klm.ny reacted to Muhammad Yamman in Some Basic Tools which are Missing in Affinity Designer and Must be Included in Affinity 2.0
I have recently shifted from Adobe to Affinity. Most of my work is related to Designer, I use Photo occasionally. I’m very satisfied with it overall. I can do pretty much everything on Affinity which I could do on Adobe. But I have noticed that there are some very basic tools which are missing in Affinity apps. Here, I’m making a list of those tools. My request to Affinity decision makers & developer team is that, please include these tools in Affinity 2.0 as designers are desperately waiting see these in Affinity (Most of them are just related to Designer but some are missing in Photo too):

klm.ny reacted to Desmild in Right to Left Support for Hebrew and Arabic
Ops I did not mean "left to right direction" but rather right to left.
Anyway I think its worth getting since you can expect at least 200 000 sales when the marked is open for those languages.
Hire a guy to do it or something. His salary will be paid by the extra sales it will generate.

I agree. Add RTL. in this day and age with multi-channels and global audiences software should support both writing directions. in HTML it's a no-brainer, I am sure it's not that complicated adding this to the Text tool.

klm.ny reacted to LondonSquirrel in People who've switched entirely to affinity, why and how's it going?
There are some annoyances with the Affinity range. Some things do not make any sense at all, while other things just seem to be obstinacy on the part of Affinity.
The lack of RTL languages is a real nuisance for me. I know it's a pain to implement. But without it the Affinity range will never be considered 'complete'.
The one-off price is unbeatable in comparison with Adobe. The upgrades do come along sloooowly, without further cost.
It's fair to say that I use Affinity when I can, despite its annoyances and limitations. When I grumble here in the forums it is not for the sake of grumbling. It means I have hit something which just really annoys me.

klm.ny reacted to Rancho in People who've switched entirely to affinity, why and how's it going?
I switched from Photoshop to Affinity Designer about a year ago now, here's a brief summary of my experience and why I prefer it:
Cheap one time price
It's highly flexible (their artboards system kicks Adobe's one by a mile)
The UI makes sense (having design personas keeps your workflow simple and easy to navigate)
The keyboard shortcuts are similar to Photoshop so the transition was easy
It saves my work in a lossless format (rather than rasterised!!)
It easily allows import/export of popular formats (PNG,JPG,PSD,PDF,SVG etc)
It's cross compatible LINK MODERATED
Their community is lovely and very helpful (the devs also share their roadmaps and speak with you)
I've got more points but I think that covers the main points for me. I use the software daily and sometimes in combination with Affinity Photo which is just as good (they can also work on the same file together - live editing).
