In-house Affinity Photo Video Tutorials seems more catered to professionals & Photo Shop users.
Very difficult for amateurs, totally new to photo editing software.
I purchased this 2 weeks back and still not able grasp one single bit of your quick tutorials!
Look forward to some more intuitive/detailed step by step tutorials for biginners.

Thank you for the tutorials, they are pretty helpful in general.
I wish though that they were some more "workflow" examples for those who have not that much photoshop experience.
I have been an Aperture + various plugins user (OnOne, NIK, etc.) with pretty good results.
I am exited about Affinity since it is a true Adobe contender.
I struggle with the choice of tools and when to apply them...hence: workflow. The sample photos in Affinity help a bit...still.
It would be nice to have a few common examples that feature best practise approaches from Raw developing over tweaking/fixing the image in Affinity to export.
    Thank you.

    Hi jls,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
You can install Affinity apps on up to five computers on a home environment or on two computers for commercial individual use.
Just make sure you sign-in in the App Store app with the same Apple ID you used to buy the app.

    Hi Andy,

I have watched all the Affinity Photo Video Tutorials, they have such a smooth flow to how each edit is done.
Looks very simple, yet when I go into AP to replicate, I seem to be for ever at a loss on how I should go about it.
    Totally lost and exasperated!

Your Tutorials are excellent for experienced folks with knowledgeable background on layers.
I migrated over from Aperture and by comparison -
AP has much more to offer, but definitely not as simple as Aperture.

    Thanks

Wow! 15 Years to master PS. Wonder how long it will take me to learn use layers & tools efficiently/effectively in AP. Have watched all the great tutorials but when going into AP to replicate, the flow is just not there. I must have missed out on some minor details on actual tool selection.
Thanks for re-assuring me....the software is fantastic for those who know.

    I'm able to reproduce this.
Seems some Affinity Photo edit operations output an incompatible PSD, TIFF file that Aperture isn't able to recognise.
It's probably the same type of problem we are seeing with other third party apps not being able to recognise Affinity's PSD's despite the fact they open fine in Photoshop.

When I output it from Aperture.app and edit it by Affinity Photo and save it, it becomes unsupport image format.
The output format from Aperture.app is PSD and TIF. It is a result same as both.
I edit it many times and repeat save. And I can save it normally if lucky.

First I will say that I am very happy to see this software and impressed with what I have seen so far...with one exception. The lack of a complete user manual. I don't understand the idea among developers that their job begins and ends with the software and users will fumble and stumble and guess their way to a working knowledge of the program. Video tutorials are great and helpful. So is knowing I have a reference, provided by the developer, that explains what every tool, panel, and menu option is and what it does, as though the person reading it has never worked with this software before. This is especially true for a new software that hasn't been around long enough for authors to fill the void with How To books. From what I can see the information available under Affinity Photo Help is bare bones at best and some of the bones are missing. I spent a lot of time learning Illustrator and enough of Photoshop to do what I need and I am disgusted with Adobe's switch to subscription based software availability. So the discovery of Affinity Design and Photo is very exciting to me. Stumbling through video's and searching YouTube and Google for additional information to understand how to use your products...that is not so exciting.

I feel the same. I think Affinity is the best software i purchased since long and i do want to try and learn to work with this program.

But i am also a very beginner - have never worked with PS or some kind. And i get stuck a lot of times trying to follow the tutorials...  :o and i can't always figure out what i am missing out exactly.

So my tactic is to follow all the tutorials and try to reproduce them. What happens most of the time is that even if i follow the steps very closely, the magic happening in the tut vid's do not happen on my photo :( .

For instance, i am now trying to reproduce the Frequency Separation tutorial with a photo of my own. Around 1:50 in the video the healing brush is used, in the low frequency filter. The spots i see on the skin of the person on my photo just don't go away?! I even don't see anything happening. No spot is being removed, no change at all....

My question is: can i download the used photos in the tutorials to use those to try to reproduce the tutorials.
So i know the problem is not that i am using an inadequate photo?  :)

Any ideas to enhance my beginners tactic?

    Hi,
I would like a tool added to Affinity Photo that allows you to add three or more RAW photos taken at different exposures and merge them into a single HDR image.

chrisw reacted to My Strawberry Monkey in 1. - How do I make Affinity Media Browser recognize an Aperture Library located elsewhere but in the "blessed" Pictures folder?
Hi Cesar, it does not appear the media browser allows you too look elsewhere besides the default Aperture/iPhoto/Pictures or dragging in a folder.

Regarding your workflow, I have already made a few posts on this forum for those wanting to Keep Aperture for managing their pictures but edit in Affinity Photo

Not sure why your choosing save as rather than just save.

In Aperture in the menu bar go to Aperture - Preferences - Export - External Photo Editor and choose Affinity Photo and choose your file format and colour space, once done and inside Aperture you can right click on a picture and tell it edit with Affinity Photo (I take it from you post you already know how to do this) Once inside Affinity photo and you make you edit and you press save it will save back to Aperture for you.

Out of interest what is the .PDS file? that sounds like a Power Director Video file.

I purchased this as replacement for Aperture.
When I selected a raw file from Aperture, it seemed to automatically convert image to jpeg!
Affinity Photo cannot even import directly from SD card or camera!
Tutorial videos seem to be more catered to PS users only!

Been using PS since 192 and Affinity Photo is looking great guys. Well done :)
Trying to get my head round FS (frequency Separation). It creates two layers, but I'm not sure what to do with them?
I've tried making a mask on the top layer and painting-in (or out) the areas I want affected, but nothing is happenning.
Checked all the brushes are correct, ie 100percent, black, normal blend etc. Nothing :(
any clues how I get my image to actually show what the filter has done?
    Obviously missing something obvious :)
