Hmm. Similar chops here, but no longer with a Fortune 500 company. (And quite happy about that!) The Affinity suite functions very differently than the Adobe suite, though there are obvious similarities. When anyone who's accustomed to Adobe tries Affinity software, the differences are clear hurdles to productivity. Admittedly, some of the differences aren't completely logical, certainly not at first. However, the fact that there are many professional creatives making their living with Affinity software, deeming it unusable is an obvious overstatement.
It seems that many detractors ignore that Affinity does not claim parity with Adobe, or any other, software. The clear attraction to Affinity—and likely why many stick around vs. just leaving and not commenting regularly about Affinity's shortcomings—is that it's a company determined to deliver a viable alternative to the software rental model that is consuming the market via Adobe and others.
Most everyone here detests, with a passion, the idea of renting software. It's on par with renting a house for thirty years vs. buying. At the end, you've got nothing. Nothing current, nothing outdated ... nothing. This is why (most of us) fervently support this little company and its software.
Are there issues yet to be overcome? Undoubtedly. Are there UI/UX choices that are frustrating? Clearly. But is the software functional, usable? Absolutely. If it weren't, Serif wouldn't exist. That said, the progress lately has been very encouraging. Not perfect, just encouraging.
And encouraging is what I intend to be while I'm here. Developing software that challenges the 800 pound gorilla and their endless treasure chest is hard enough without me bashing the team at every turn. If I ever get to the point where I find something better for my needs, that's it, I'm out of here. But that hasn't happened yet, and as long as that remains true, I'll praise every positive thing I can, and offer only constructive and hopefully helpful critiques along the way.
    Cheers.

All righty, then. If Serif should include an AI generator, should the applications be turned into a subscription model to cover the associated costs? I think that would be only fair. After all, we can't keep getting something for "nothing" forever, now, can we? I think that would be an excellent way for the company to collect more revenue from the unhappy subscribers who can't seem to do anything without AI included in the products. Personally, I want AI to work in the Publisher version, too. I'm tired of sitting in a dark room while making things up all by myself.
Who does Red Sands work for? The competition? He shure does talk a lot. Isn't he one of the few who forecast that Affinity was surely going down the road to perdition and darnation if the outfit didn't come up with an update to v2 where everything worked to his satisfaction? Well, I guess Affinity showed him. Unfortunately for the rest of us, he's found a new bone to chew on and he's going to show us the way all over again.

@ Red Sands: With all of those complaints, it is obvious you no longer use the software, if you ever did. On the other hand, most of us put it to good use on a daily basis and are quite happy to have it.

    Respect, please.
Everybody can post any feedback / request (when adhering to forum guideline), genius, ordinary, foolish
But he must also accept getting feedback to his/her posts (adhering to forum guidelines, too).
As Photo doesn’t work well on iPads 9,5“ and 10.5“ since introduced until today (UI cut off): it is above reasonable to expect Photo working on devices with far less display size. „patrolling members“ comments simply reflect that reality with some level of irony which I rate as just right. Calling this foolish/empty is wrongfully rating replies as foolish which simply uncover the foolishness of the requests itself.

Huh. I guess my 12-year-old Dell running v1 doesn't rate.  (Not really surprised.) I haven't tried the v2 product on it - yet - but I might just to see if it will run and work adequately. You know, just to write posts in this thread. 😁

Nah. An APU is a term used by bush pilots for equipment used to heat aircraft engines in extreme cold environments. Other styles of APUs provide power to an aircraft when it's on the ground and certain systems may need power. It's also used for starting jet engines. Although, I suppose we could piggyback and use it for Publisher. APub works better for me. Your mileage may vary.
Edited to add that I once got caught out in -50 in Northern Canada. I used a propane lantern placed inside the closed clamshell doors of a Hughes 500 to warm the engine sufficient that I could get a start. I had twin nicad batteries that I kept inside the cabin (that's cabin as in trapper's cabin), so they weren't a problem. I've worked in Africa, too, but providing heat wasn't a problem there.

I have a suggestion, since you're all hot to have a translation in your language of choice. Why not provide your specific Affinity translations for the group to critique? That alone ought to demonstrate how much work will be required. Personally, I can't wait for the show. Oh, and don't forget the manual, the online help, and the Preferences. For all three programs. And the web portal as well. Thank you very much.😀

I re-placed my attachment. In the fresh light of a new day I have found a way to do what I want to do that was probably patently obvious to most of you here, and I'm happy with the method. I can change the color of my painted cover lines to my heart's content.
It would appear as though my method may be similar to that which Dazmondo77 has demonstrated. I choose my swatch and then use the bucket and the Opacity layer.
    Thanks for your help, Dazmondo77!
I might add, as usual, that these forums are a pleasant place to find help on almost any subject excepting brain surgery. I've been following the postings in the Beta section (I don't use Beta software). There appears to be plenty of improvements coming along nicely. Many bug fixes, too. I'm very much looking forward to the final version when it comes out. Now that the nay-sayers and whiners have disappeared for the most part, I'm sure the atmosphere at Affinity is much improved. Thanks to all of you for your hard and difficult work.
Oh, one final thing. Did you ever get Affinity ported to DOS? I've been waiting patiently. 😁

    2. A government in which a single ruler is vested with absolute power: people liberated from a brutal tyranny.

Yes. Yes it is. #5. Absolutely. Or, perhaps, #4.1, if we see Affinity as a parent intent on forcing us to, oh, I don't know, go to bed early without our dinner, I mean, without our desktop icons? 😁

Twolane got a reaction from Alfred in Not a Question, but a concern, regarding potential hard times in serif (linked video)
What a great offer. Those Dreamphography brushes at the very end of that page are phenomenal. I have used them more than a few times.
IAMRENSI has a plethora of amazing brushes all in one great collection also (but his aren't free, and no, I am not shilling). For a guy like me who has absolutely no graphics ability whatsoever, I find those two collections to be more than adequate. On the other hand, for those more graphics capable, there are some collections that I'm certain are much more interesting.
In the Brushes hamburger, I have unticked Show as list, and an image, albeit small, appears of every brush in a category (only one of many tips I have picked up in these forums).

It certainly was a great offer! The Affinity Trinity x3 ( or was it x2.75?) for Apple and Windows both was a great offer. One and done. Too bad, so sad if anyone listened to that tired old video and missed out on January 25 because someone was wrong on the interwebs. xkcd lives!
