tbone360 reacted to MEB in Canvas size vs Document size
Hi C-F,
Adding to what Callum said, sometimes you may want to add more space to just one (two or all sides) of the canvas because you need more space to work with. In those cases, Resize Canvas lets you add space just to a side (or more) using the Anchor control you find on the bottom of the dialog. Resize Document will resize the document as a whole.

Hi C-F,
Welcome to the Forums :)
Document Resize will resize the canvas along with all of the objects on it where as Canvas Resize will only resize your canvas and will leave the objects as they were :)

tbone360 reacted to MEB in Designer: Distressed look
Hi NBG,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
As toth and shojtsy suggested you can use a vector based distressed "texture" to achieve what you want. Just place it over the text , select both objects and perform a subtract boolean operation. Depending on the complexity (nodes) of the texture the operation may take some time. You can also convert the text to curves and perform the subtract operation with each letter individually if needed to make the operation less heavy. As mentioned too, when converted to vectors some pixel/raster based textures may look more artificial (depending on their scale/detail) so i suggest you experiment with a few different ones (using the Erase blend mode for quick checks) before committing to a definite solution.

I can suggest a very easy method. No need to convert the text to curves or do anything difficult.
If the bitmap layer is black and white, (using the black as the distressing or "erasing" bit for the letters) first of all turn the white into transparent.
It the Pixel Persona, Go Select > Tonal Range > Highlights and press the Delete key to erase the white,
Set the Layer Blend Mode of the image to "Erase" and the black will cut out the letters.
Supply the screen printer with a JPEG or PDF file.

tbone360 reacted to grargemeister in Optimising Designer for Windows Surface Pro 3
Evening everyone,
I've been using Affinity Designer for about 10 months now and I absolutely love it. It's made me get back into my art and I've been drawing using it every day since purchasing it.
My question I have: is there anyway to optimise it for Windows Surface Pro 3? I understand that it's a pretty dated machine but I find that some of the raster brushes at a large pixel size are very sluggish and I have to paint and then just wait for it to finish and just hope it turns out how I need it to. I get frustrated a little because the iPad has its own version and seems to run problem free but I was wondering if there was a way to make it run faster or at least quicker with the raster brushes. I normally run at a resolution of 3000x3000 with a DPI of 300 so I can appreciate the resolution is high but if any one has any suggestions to make it run faster I would be extremely grateful.

I am a Surface Pro lover. Every Affinity Suite app runs well on my Win 10 little computer. But! and that is a big BUT! (not BUTT), is the not so good UI for a tablet design. One beloved UI design on Surface Pro is Leonardo (beta) that is a very simple painting and sketching program. He (the single developer) has this very god solution to a true touchscreen UI. Down at the bottom of the toolbar there is a toggle on/off button for shortcuts. That means I can work without a keyboard. Every other tool can be used without keyboard shortcuts, the alternative in a tool can be used by pressing the alt or ctrl key (or other keys). So smart!
Even the RadialMenu solution is a one mans work, and that works good too, as well as TabletPro.
The difference to RadialMenu and TabletPro to tha Leaonardo solution is that Leaonardo's does hardly take up space on screen, while the others do
This Leonardo thing would not take so much effort from the Affinity team to deliver!? Or..?
